The Gänseliesel, also known as the Goose Girl, is a famous statue located in Göttingen, Germany. It’s not only a popular landmark but also an essential part of the city’s culture and history. The statue, created by the sculptor Paul Nisse and architect Paul Stöckhardt, was erected in 1901.
One of the most unique traditions associated with the Gänseliesel is the custom of newly promoted Ph.D. graduates kissing the statue after their successful doctoral defense. This tradition has turned the Gänseliesel into the most-kissed girl in the world.
