Cottbus is located in southeast Brandenburg, Germany. The city is also the cultural center of the Lower Lusatian Sorbs. Cottbus is close to the Spreewald and the Lusatian Lake District.
The city of Cottbus was first documented in 1156 and received its charter around 1230. It celebrated its 850th anniversary in 2006, and in 2008. Cottbus commemorated the 100th anniversary of its Art Nouveau theatre which we will see later on this tour.
Cottbus walking tour starts in the city center and goes all around on a quiet summer Sunday.
Did you know? The city also has a unique association with a tongue twister about a Cottbus post coachman, now a city symbol alongside its heraldic crayfish.
