Bucharest, the capital of Romania, is a cool, happening place full of great food and friendly people. Like most of Eastern Europe however, Bucharest is still in the midst of recovering from one of the most brutal communist leaders during the Cold War and Communism. We were able to explore one of the most extravagant examples of the disconnect between the people, and its then leader, Ceausescu, by walking around the heaviest building in the world, the Palace of the Parliament. We were then able to contrast this by going to the beautiful outdoor museum full of traditional Romanian houses, that displayed what peasant life was like before the Second World War.

Bucharest is a really great place to visit, standing out in Eastern Europe because of its Latin influence in a Slavic dominated region. We would love to go back soon!
