If you want to undertake the same journey as I did, you will need to fill in Cau Treo as the border crossing.
For the crossing you will need to have some kip left on you:
– 10.000 kip for the Laos border
– 50.000 kip for the Vietnam border
You don’t need a pass photo, just the e-visa.
The journey took exactly 24 hours and I would do it again, because although it is long, it isn’t too bad.

Do they ask you for an exit ticket when you ll arrive in Vietnam. For me always do and so hard to know when want to leave a country? Why couldnt bus man translate on his phone that s what they did in Turkey for me. Seemed so complicated. If makes you feel better my bag after getting lost 2 weeks by airline costing me so much also got lost by bus company putting it out at wrong stop. I did get it back but meant had to wait tired and hungry for it. Never agsin will.put anything in any check in or bus hold where i sit will be my bag ..I dont find a bed bus comfy at all prefer just seat.
