EXPATS ARE LEAVING PORTUGAL People around the world, remember that this Canadian -Portuguese gentle does not represent us in portugal and he is avoiding to tell the negative aspects in portugal , in particular sense the mass golden visas he is promoting hey Portugal, in particular my island as a dream destination knowing that the laws changed for non nationals of the EU. It’s a business, and nothing else. It’s time for these 2 so called “expats” in Portugal give back to our country by stopping advertising our country to the international market in which only rich people buy the little we have or better HAD. It is not his place to do it. We, the Portuguese people are suffering because of YouTube channels promoting of our lifestyle. It all comes at a high price. Everything is now above our means, food , housing , etc have risen so much that it more expensive to live in Portugal than in the UK. If we, the Portuguese cannot even rent in our own country, imagine even buying our “dream home” in our lovely county. We are leaving our country in rows in order to have a better lifestyle and we thank you from our bottom our our heart. Please promote another country to the international rich market now. Even the foreigns find out country expensive, so imagine how we are surviving. May God guide you and help you see through what has been done in our lovely country. . Please note that the rich foreigners choosing to move in to Portugal also have to be conscious when planning to to move a country, knowing that their impact on the societal and economic fabric will affect the majority of the population in a negative manner, in particular the young and the elderly. What is going on in Portugal is really a shame right now. I personally know examples of a number of families in Portugal that have been affected so badly by all of this . I can give an example of my neighbours. They were 3 people living in their home of 2beds home when the sudden arrival of new rich golden visas and digital nomads took place (which make now 7% percent of the total population living in Portugal right now) 3 other elderly members were made homeless due to absurd increase of the rent of their homes in which they are lived for over 20 years. Please remember that a state pension is portugal is of €224,24 a month. The laws created by the government, just like you referred , should be also reviewed and stopped straight away for the sake of the poor and disadvantaged Portuguese people. Our corrupt politicians and landlords are also part of the issue, and pushing up the houses and rental prices to accommodate the demands of this new and sudden phenomenon generated by the arrival of rich people from all over the World to our country. How can we compete with rich foreign who are buying our homes with our minimum salaries of €760 a month?!!!! The sad reality that Golden visa holders. The house prices were forcefully inflated to accommodate the value that guarantee them the status of Golden visa. The question I pose is following: shouldn’t all the 100% of the Portuguese have the right to access a home in their country? Rental or not?? Most Portuguese people are honest and hard working people who are trying to survive and were involuntary exposed to such economic changes and dynamics it their home country without their choosing. The question really is… would you move to an environment/ area consciously knowing of your negative impact in the society regardless of your personal goals, ignoring the rest of society living and economic conditions? I would not, as I am morally aware of the impact of my action and decisions. The irony is that people who perceive Portugal as “the best kept secret paradise country” and wish to a cheap lifestyle and homes in relation to the reality they moved from (compared to their high income countries) and wish to move in or are already living in Portugal contribute to the transformation of this paradise country turning it into “a hell” to its natives who now are struggling at a higher level then ever. I am here to make people aware that decision have socioeconomic and cultural consequences and that we all need to be a bit more responsible and considering moving a particular country or community. When I picked the Azores for the place I want to retire I didn't know about the NHR. I still haven't found a property yet, but I hope the NHR will continue when I decided to purchase a place because it will make the transition a lot easier. Azores in the winter is one of the reasons I'm looking there, have a nice trip.
