Something wrong about what you're saying is that Mate should not be using his Jewish Holocaust survivor card. I believe that as he is convinced about his opinion, he also knows that a Gentile would have been immediately discredited as Antisemite and more than discredited, cancelled. No matter how wrong or right he is, he has the responsibility to tell his background and Finkelstein does, and especially Miko Peled.
You need to educate yourself my man. A country that has carried out regular attacks on Gaza over the years, killing innocent people and is currently bombing the living daylights out of a population that has nowhere to hide, starving them, no water, no electricity etc etcGive me strength! Israel is a shameful coward committing war crimes. Watch 1948, the documentary to see footage of how the Palestinians were driven from their homes then, how currently, contrary to international law Israel continues to annex the West Bank. You have to be kidding yourself. No wonder there is antisemitism!
The fact that he states his Jewish background is to set the ground for his experience which is relevant in any sme(subjects matter expert) your opinion only matter when you have a solid foundation. Just as a doctor would state his experience to add merit to his views
The fact that you skipped the peaceful protest that ended in Palestinian deaths at boarder and bc of that i will never see your point of view when you pick and choose the historical facts that lead to the actions
I think there’s a variant of Stockholm Syndrome where people’s brains side with their enemy in a weird form of self defense. Just my theory but it’s all I can come up with for this mass insanity.
I try to get as many views from all sides to form an opinion, and you present the strongest Zionist arguments I can find, even so it is your arguments that I find lazy and patronizing. I would have considered your arguments more had you played the entire interview and responded to each point. I find your denial of the nakba just Holocaust denial in reverse and quite off-putting. Arabs had no obligation to accept the Un or British declarations just as Europe and the US denied Jewish refugees. They were simply overpowered by British trained Zionist militias. You used too many ad hominem attacks vs Dr Mate. I found his personal story relevant, he had to frame the debate in that way to counter accusations of anti-semetism which would inevitably come.
i think you and israel people use jewish card, because if anyone not agree with Israel pro israel will say thats anti semetic, thats two different thing zionist and jewish
This does not sit well with me. This is not about 'them' and 'us', this is about people, human beings, they need water, food, shelter, medical facilities, they need homes to live and love and grow up in, they need security and freedom, they need to earn money and have the means to do that and they should be allowed to continue to live and work on land passed down through generations.. Israel have taken that from palestinians then wonder why there are vicious terrorist groups attacking them. Violence and hatred is born out of violence and hatred, it feeds itself and only escalates. This latest group of terrorists are more than likely the orphaned children from the last bombing campaign by Israel, todays orphans will be the next generation of terrorists (or are you trying to wipe them all out before they get to adulthood?) I dont condone violence of any kind, killing is killing and its wrong on every level whoever is doing it, its in the 10 commandments and it needs to stop on both sides now! I am a Christian, I have Christian friends who have very close links to palestinian Christian people in the West Bank. One of those people has been growing olives there, as has his family for over a thousand years since Roman times. He has the documents to prove it. A few months ago, before 7/10 he was attacked by Israeli settlers whilst trying to tend his crops. He was injured so badly it put him in hospital for weeks. Whilst in hospital his olive groves were burnt down. He went to complain about this and was arrested for no reason. He was released a few days later.. He is trying to raise funds to get his land back, but the process is long and the odds are stacked against him. He has lost his health, and his livelihood. There is no protection for palestinians to prevent this behaviour from Israeli settlers in the West Bank, Christian and Muslim palestinians are systematically being kicked off their land and this has been going on for decades. Watch The Stones Cry Out on Youtube about what happened to the Christians in palestine from 1948 onwards. It was made 10 years ago, and it is heartbreaking and eye opening. Remember there are Christians in palestine too. In the West Bank and in Gaza. Some of the hospitals destroyed recently in Gaza were linked to Christian Churches and organisations.
9:22 , what's wrong with people like him?? I've heard that same narrative more than I can remember coming mostly from the Left !! These people seem to live in a chronic state of guilt and self-hatred , because of a more than 1000 years old unavoidable series of historic events ?? At this rate we'll hear one of them clowns cry about erasing and colonizing the neanderthals!!
Thanks for that! I was waiting to see something about him since I know his work in trauma and appreciate it. I was surprised to see his opinions while he never lived in Israel. I have a hypothesis..similar to what you said maybe "he took what he knows from his own history and applied it to Palestinians". i wondered why a Holocaust survivor might hold negative views toward the State of Israel? could it be that the traumatic experiences of the Holocaust could lead to feelings of anger, hatred, and mistrust, which could be associated with the existence of the Jewish state? for example, the disappointment with the state's perceived failures to fulfill its goals of security and justice for the Jewish people could contribute to these feelings. also criticism of the state, for not being "liberal enough" and particularly regarding its treatment of the Palestinian situation. For lack of knowledge he might argue that the state is the only reason preventing a two-state resolution." he sees it as a failure of the zionists. For a Holocaust survivor, such criticism could resonate deeply and further solidify negative perceptions of the state. As for Egypt, it is completely disappointing that there is no criticism on their side. They are also afraid to tell the truth! They don't want them and we can understand that- from a security point of view, why should they endanger their citizens?. It is important for us to maintain peaceful relations with them and to find a just solution for all parties.
As a non-Jew who wanted to understand both the Jewish and Palestinian side and read up on the mainstream accepted history for both, if Gabor’s POV was not complete, the one shared here is also sorely lacking and incredibly biased. This one is just some guy with blinders on, especially since it denies what went on in Gaza and West Bank 60’s onwards…things that were heavily reported by the UN etc. It’s the reason why so many Israeli academics signed the document “The Elephant in the Room” last August before the Hamas attacks.
Ugh. I’m still looking for a balanced POV from someone who really knows the issue since it’s so confusing. The closest I’ve been able to find are former US presidents. Jimmy Carter was pretty blunt about it since he wasn’t seeking re-election. I don’t know what it was like in Gaza, but in the West Bank where everything is supposedly “better”, Palestinians have to go through IDF checkpoints, slowly losing more and more of their land from illegal settlers (whom the IDF would , constantly arresting civilians including children with impunity, have roads that Palestinians were not allowed to use… What was not in question was that it was Apartheid (according to Jimmy Carter, Barack Obama, Jewish former negotiator for Israel, many Jewish experts on holocaust, the State Department official whose job it was to approve arms to go to Israel, many former IDF soldiers, etc.) Gaza was so much worse. Jews may have withdrew, but they controlled everything that went on inside. Even though their land was already extremely small, there were so many areas that locals couldn’t access in their own land because IDF would shoot if they went within a certain number of yards of the fence. Israel also controlled food and supplies going into the city (the blockade), limiting it to such a degree that the population had to get creative in feeding themselves (this particular POV was shared by a Jewish reporter who lived in Gaza to see what it was like).
Is there an actual pro-Israel video that explains their POV that actually takes into account a full history and not just the propaganda? I want to understand it. It’s very frustrating looking for a balanced POV when most of the videos are like this guy’s (heavily uninformed). :-s I’m looking for videos from more educated people — maybe Israeli historians that explains the whole history but provides a different POV that justifies Israel’s decision to ignore humanitarian laws of proportionality. If Gabor did not address some “truths”, this guy denied full realities that still existed and confirmed by people who previously had a vested interest in Israel’s success.
Sorry, you left for 2000 years! Where else on earth you can leave for such a long time come back, chase the people who live there – who by the way might be jews converted to islam or christianity – and get along with that. You should indeed fight the Germans and not the Palestinians, cause they caused the Holocaust. In history who conqueres a land owns it. This is how Nations were built all over the world. You did the same, before Christ, the Thora says it, you had to conquer Israel, then it was yours. And what is now Israel is because you conquered it again. My main point is: Fine you got back, ancient history, the Holocaust, fine. But couldn't you do it in a more peaceful way? So the HOW becomes the problem. The How is the what. Read Ilan Pappe. Very nice person.
Oren, you are very polite to the object of your program today and that is good for you. I will put it more bluntly…..Gabor Mate is a total ignorant of history and human scumbag because he is lying through his teeth. Canadian Jewish community should be in shame to have someone like him in their midst.
Another point -in his work, Maté's focus on compassion and understanding for individuals who have experienced trauma can be seen as minimizing their responsibility for their actions. I believe it's important to balance compassion with accountability, particularly in cases of harmful behaviors. sounds familiar?
Putin and Wagner where training Hamas for the attacks while you stupid Israelis voted for Putin in the UN. Why is the American Israel Public Affairs Committee denying us aid to Ukraine?

But these people have been killing Palestinians for decades the numbers are known to anyone who does the research

The fact that israel can just allow gaza to have a sense of hope and inclusion with a swipe of a gavel
good job! Gabor is a sick self hater. Horrible person. Long live Israel!

Free Palestine ✊
25000 Palestinian killed in 2 months. How do you defend this
You speak so much common sense and you stick to facts…
So don't be surprised if you're not popular among many in this upside down, crazy world!
It's better to be the wise head in a world of irrationality than it is to follow the irrational ones – even if they become the majority.

When are Zionists on the wrong side of history?
For the last 75 years

He was made a living off his labels. He was an infant when the war in Europe ended and yet uses his holocaust experience label in every opportunity.

Gabor must read history before talking without knowing .
For example
He must begin to read the BIBLE.
He speaks without foudation of his words
