Leg 2 Day 5 Christmas Eve (EP 37) #sailing

Getting to spray good morning good morning what’s going on there just spill a whole cup of coffee all over myself oh on your oh good all over myself and all over the boat yeah well are you going to make another one o absolutely Stan try to chat to us about

Feeling and then uh I made you drop your cup well good all together Welcome to our all together passage series a daily Vlog taking you with us on our maiden voyage from France to Miami we’re on leg 2 to the Caribbean let’s do this decisions decisions and the weather models are very

Interesting Northern Atlantic continue to be very Dynamic at this time of um the season let me show you a little bit bit of uh what routing we’re getting so we’re here currently we’re trying to get Martin in the Caribbeans here the GFS model it’s still sending us way up

North I won’t go into the details but we don’t want to do that the European model with the pink Line is now sending us uh South as well close to the Runway and we have set a turning point here to force the models to send us further south so the European model in purple is following pretty much the same line where there is no turning point and uh the GFS model sends us further south and Way South here with all this

Information we have to decide which way to Go [Applause] interesting I just got on my watch and it’s about 3: in the morning Cod time a.m. and um wanted to give a little update the true wind speed is averaging about uh 13 or 14 lths we have the A2 up uh we’ve had it up all night

And our boat speed is averaging about 9.3 knots we are going in a heading of about 218° and um moving right along what’s interesting is we are meeting about 85% of our poers on average which I think is pretty decent that’s in the last 24 hours we’ve sort

Of gotten it together here um in the last couple days the first couple days were a little all over the place um because so the repair and everything else so um but things are starting to look good our wind direction we’re at with the A2 we’re steering to

135 and um the SE state is pretty calm I mean it’s the ocean but it’s calm and it’s a really beautiful moon outside um it’s a beautiful night you can see all the stars I so wish we could photograph them better um or a video of them better to

Give you a feel of what it’s like it’s it’s like magical um the other thing is the power we are so again 3:00 a.m. uh we’re still trying to recover from the hair dryer um situation usually we can charge in full daylight and uh get to 100%

There was some cloud cover this last couple days and um so and also the way we’re sailing um the main sort of Shadows the solar panels on the roof the ones on the davits are fine um so we haven’t been able to get back up to 100% but it’s

Fine with with the lithium batteries with the lithium batteries you can take them down to zero and zero means you still have another 20% % we’re obviously not going to do that uh we’re going to turn the engines on and charge if they get to 20 right now they’re at

28 uh% and uh we’re drawing maybe n amps um with the wat and SE so the Watt and SE is probably if we’re going if we’re going 9 knots it’s probably delivering about N9 amps and then we’re drawing another um another bit so the total is maybe between 9 10 12 amps um we just have the computer on and all the navigation we don’t have the radar on at the moment there’s nothing really out here um usually we use it obviously for the um

Fishing boats closer to land and and uh but there’s nothing else on the charts in terms of AIS um and a pretty clear sky so here are some things to do on watch you can clean the floors you can stretch your exercise you can listen to Audi books or music with one

Earbud think about stuff that matters think about stuff that doesn’t matter you can stargaze and Ponder the universe you can play with the navigation software Stefan likes to do that enter the log book meal plan and of course snack and drink coffee or tea but there’s one other thing I um

Would really not recommend doing and that is um spending time worrying I have found that um whatever you focus on gets bigger so when I start to worry or looking at maybe the wind increases um what I’ve learned is you just have to uh make yourself a cup

Of tea get a glass of water and just wait and nine times out of 10 whatever you’re worrying about passes and uh that’s a good thing that’s what I’m learning on this trip is to relax and enjoy it Um so on the autopilot you have a sensor has a little tiny arm with a screw over the rudder so this got food so there was no lck tight on it you put lck TI No I just tight it up and we can check and what you up to

Holly I’m making some pancakes and some um cinnamon apples because it’s Christmas Eve and we get to make our own rules we made pancakes take a Look light wind Day first of a few

Hello! We are Holly and Stephane 🇺🇸🇫🇷

We have made the transition from full-time software professionals from the SF Bay Area to liveaboard sailing explorers who always keep one eye on the weather and our hearts in a song. Our goal is to complete a circumnavigation and we recently transitioned to a performance catamaran and are madly in love with our Outremer 52. We are working with Outremer in France (with the help of Google translate) to launch our boat project and start our journey as sailing vagabonds. While it’s not a race or speedtest, we are doing our first Bluewater crossing this year and we are excited to see AWEN stretch her legs and dance on the water. Join us as we share what we’re learning living without Amazon, (but with Starlink), and attempt this new life of travel and adventure on the ocean. Please be patient with us as we continue to improve our YouTube vlogging skills. Our goal isn’t to make our life a movie, it’s to give back to what others have shared with us, which is why we don’t monetize our channel.

  1. One passage I did, one night watch would start the dough, next watch would reknead it , next watch would bake it fresh for breakfastI Have a very Happy Christmas : )

  2. Holly, what you are describing is called the "Law of Attraction" which brings you back what you focus on….So you are right, only positive and confidence, brings better outcome in any situation, and that's very good also for a nice Christmas Eve under the stars at sea. Enjoy every moments of your sailing life, Merry Christmas.🌠

  3. BTW, when are we going to see the triple-sail configuration come out when you fly the staysail TOO 🙂 You could probably do that with the code sail like in todays video, right?
