Oberstdorf – Winterurlaub in den Allgäuer Alpen | ARD Reisen
Dream setting plus deck chair… equals vacation. And in one of the most beautiful places in the Allgäu. We are on holiday in and around Oberstdorf. But there can be no question of relaxing in a deck chair. Yes… it’s about to start. Hua… for God’s sake. They are long enough. Wow, I’m not allowed to look down there. – Exactly, one more down. Mmm. Now I would take it off your hands, at least one. Breathe well. You are a specialist in stressful situations.
Yes, exactly. – That’s where I’m at right now. Tell me honestly, how do I get these skis into this track? You can park your butt there first, we’ll do it step by step. – With the really long skis? Tilt to the side, exactly. – Okay.
And you’re still roped up at the back, right? – Mmm. Now you can rotate. As you turn your butt, the skis come with you. I can help you with something, the guidance. Really in there, wait, exactly. – Ah… Now you would be in. – Ah …
Guys, I’m sitting. – That’s how it looks. Oh… – Annette as a ski jumper. Wow… what a feeling! The jumpers sit right up here. And are totally focused on what’s coming now. I kind of am, but I would never jump down here. But I’m also looking forward to what’s coming now.
We are in the ski jumping metropolis of Oberstdorf. It’s down there, I don’t even dare look at it. You can experience so much there… ah, what’s that now? Is there an avalanche coming or what? No? I don’t know, but snow is slipping somewhere. In any case, you can experience a lot here and not just on two boards. Today we are visiting the southernmost corner of Germany. Oberstdorf is one of the most popular winter sports and holiday resorts in the Allgäu and has a lot to offer.
We go ice skating with the German ice dancing champions. We visit a very special hotel made of ice on the Nebelhorn. And at the Fellhorn we meet a ski club from Baden-Württemberg. Gerstruben is a real insider tip. One of the best athletes in Germany shows me this.
Swap jump skis for cross-country skis. Don’t you have that with you? No, not today, we’ve had that before. Evi, as a former biathlete and cross-country skier, Olympic champion, that you are, I am happy that we can see each other again. I’m really excited too. – In your homeland.
Now is this your insider tip that you wanted to show me? That’s not the insider tip, it’s also a beautiful place, a beautiful mountain lake, the Christlessee is that. With crystal clear water, normally, today through the fog it unfortunately looks a little different. That’s why we’re trying to get higher.
I hope you’re wearing mountain boots. – Clear. I knew I was meeting the sports ace, comfortable shoes were a must. Do you still go to the mountains often? Totally, I need that too. I have to get out into nature. To switch off, I pack up my family and dog. Then it’s off to the mountains, we’re outside regularly. That’s where we want to go. – Gerstruben? Exactly, we come from Oberstdorf.
The question is, which path do we take? Of course the alpine danger. (She laughs) We can do that, right? – I go everywhere with you. What role does sport still play in your life? I no longer need to push myself to my limits, just walk comfortably and nothing too strenuous.
Your girls, that’s what’s in your life now? Totally, that’s the center of my life now. It’s a lot of fun being a mom, it’s the best thing there is. I’m enjoying that right now. – I can well imagine that. It’s really beautiful here. – Impressive, right? Like a fairytale, magical winter land. I always find that impressive. It’s almost humbling when you imagine that this was nature’s sculptor. – Yes totally. Look at how the fog moves in, it’s great too. Like in a film, like on a film set.
And the two of us play the main role. (They laugh.) So. – Together we can do it. And now you go ahead again. – Strong together, right? But now with the Alpine danger it also makes sense. Yes, it makes sense now. So now we’re here and I wanted to show you this. This is Gerstruben, a small mountain village. Which is really sacred to the people of Oberstdorf. And it even has a restaurant. Of course you want to go there. – Clear. That is the goal, we have to have a goal.
The cuisine in the mountains is more hearty, right? It’s more of a hearty dish, not for athletes. It’s okay from time to time. – Or you do a lot of sport. Then you can eat a lot. Exactly, if we walk up there, we’ll deserve a Kaiserschmarrn or something like that.
Evi is familiar with this because she studied nutrition science after her sports career. That’s where we get our Kaiserschmarrn. – That’s great. It’s also part of it, always nice to stop off somewhere. – Yes that’s it. Hello, hello! This is the innkeeper from up here. Ah…
We need one of those now, don’t we? This is the one who knows his way around everywhere. – Greetings, yes, Evi! Hello, hello di. There is a lovely, very old mountain village here. A very old mountain village. – How old? We don’t know exactly. There have been settlements here since medieval times.
Today we still have six houses, there used to be several. However, some have fallen victim to avalanches over time. My wife and I live up here all year round. We live at 1,155 meters. There’s something special here. – Yes, always exciting. Do you have the key to the house? – Yes, come with me. Now I’m excited to see what you show us. This is a museum. – Ah, this is a museum? This was built in 1619 and is still standing. – Still standing. This is what they call a typical Walser Zwiehof.
Built in two parts, the house and next to it the stable building. You can visit this. In the summer, every Thursday, the museum is open. Admission is free. Wow. – This is still originally furnished. How people lived up there back then. – Wow, that’s noble.
It almost looks like the farmer has just moved out. Exactly, as if he had just hung up his jacket. They collected everything themselves with great attention to detail. From the furnishings, old tools. That you can simply see how people lived back then. That was a bit spartan. Here we have the old room.
And the guard. I’ve already taught my girls that, they learned it from their mother-in-law. – What is the Guard? The Garde is the bedroom. – Oh, okay. What did people live on here back then? They were mountain farmers. Simply mountain farmers? – Yes. Barley used to be grown here, hence the name Gerstruben.
The historic saw down by the stream was built in the 18th century to produce wood. It was purely hydroelectric because there was no electricity yet. Everything worked before, right? – Mmm. It was a hard life and it can’t be compared to today. I really have to say, a great tip from you.
Come here and take a look. Thank you very much, Evi. Thank you for meeting us again. – Gfreit mi. Next time we’ll go ice hiking. – Ice climbing. But now the next challenge awaits down in Oberstdorf, where we’re already training hard. You can definitely do better. These are my heroes of the future. Everyone from the Oberstdorf Ski Club, but you’re not all that crazy and jumps from this jump. Who is it among you? Are you two ski jumpers? – Yes. These are the ones who
Make you Olympic champions or German champions or world champions, right? – Hopefully. Have you already jumped? Yes, I ended my career last year and now I’ll pass it on to them and hope that they find their way up. Has your club already brought out some really big ones?
Yes, we currently have some World Cup athletes. Ahm…now also an Olympic medalist. Of course, it’s also a nice thing for the young athletes to be able to look up and know that if I really work on myself in a disciplined manner and keep pushing forward, I can then reach the top.
Imagine the very first time, what was that like for you? I was really shitting myself before that. I can understand well. That was just the really small one there. But after the third or fourth time it was cool. What’s coming now is also cool. The young talents are going to the Skywalk with me. A kind of course between the jumps that requires special skill and abilities. It shakes. You’re already way ahead. Exactly. The goal would be for us all to let go, Annette. Huh… Huh. – Exactly, all hands up. Woohoo! Excellent! – Uh! Hey, we’re good, right? – In any case. You can only do this together, right? There are definitely people
Who come up here and have bigger problems than the jocks. That’s right, that’s true. It’s really the stress factor, the brain is basically playing tricks on the climber. And you can work wonderfully with images, a resource image where you have experienced yourself strong or independent, that’s what you get. – For example?
For example, if you’ve done something great that you’re really proud of what you’ve achieved. The nice thing is that it not only works in situations like this, but also when you are stressed at school and are afraid of a lecture where you have to speak in front of the class.
Then you can also get such resource images. That’s how it works too. We can help you if you want. (She laughs) Yes! Excellent. – The main thing is that you get there at some point. Yay! After diving into the depths, the next exercise actually looks quite simple. Breathe. One meter above the ground – no problem.
So, Pirmin, now it’s important not to close your eyes and open your eyes, but rather consciously, i.e. don’t run up. Goal: stand at the top. The same now at dizzying heights. – Red rope. Pull some more. Big steps, great. – Ahh. How are you, Pirmin? Funny. – Funny, right? Yes.
But remember, it’s a logic issue here. You managed it down there too. One more movement. – It’s really great. Exactly, take the risk. Yes, great! Strong! – Pirmin… Get straight. -Yes! Yes indeed! – Yay! This isn’t just fun, what do you want to give people? What I want to tell them
Is that they can go beyond their comfort zone, that they can expand their limits with the help of tools. Working with breathing, with images, simply expanding boundaries. All right, this is the moment when I can still laugh. Exactly. – The only question is for how long. OK. Up very slowly. Are you doing well? I’m fine at the moment, yes. – Wonderful. You can pull it a little tighter. What’s wrong with you right now? It’s all ok? At the moment everything is still good. So… I made it down there too. It’s all ok. At the moment you are exploring your comfort zone. Ah… you always think you’ve got it right away. Have faith in yourself for once. – Yes indeed. Wow! (Sigh)
Uh… Oh… (off:) Unbelievable! I did it, I’m standing! These are real feelings of happiness. Almost like a ski jumper. But it goes even higher – up to Oberstdorf’s local mountain. If you love snow and ice, you definitely have to go up to the Nebelhorn. Not just because of the skiing,
But also because of a spectacular hotel. Huh! And that’s where we go now. And the great thing about this hotel is that it’s only available in winter. Manuel, you take me there. – Hi. Is there anything else to do? – Of course there’s something to do.
There is always something to do with us. – Then step on the gas. Huh! You park directly in front of the hotel entrance. – Exactly. Here we are. – Very good. So , so that we still have something to do. – Exactly. Our tool. And just go in? – Exactly, just in. Always follow the sounds of work. That looks great. – Beautiful or? Ha, gigantic! That’s what really defines your igloo lodge. – Yes. All these sculptures. The huge sculptures are one of our trademarks. Respect! What you’re creating out of snow and ice, hey. – Thanks. Annette. -Felix. Hello. You are an artist. Uh, you have to learn it somehow, right?
Yes, I’ve actually been doing this for a relatively long time. I’m a bit self-taught in that respect. There isn’t really any training for things like this. I’m studying fine arts, but before that I learned to be a stonemason and a stone sculptor.
But you have to teach yourself things like that in these dimensions. How many hotel rooms, how many igloos do you have here? Yes, we have 15 hotel rooms in total. There is also a suite that has a larger room and is more lavish. Almost everything made of ice and snow. We have a sofa in the suite that we then cover with reindeer skins.
Looks very good then. What I think is gigantic is your bar. Well, it really is the finest. A bar made of snow and ice, mainly made of ice blocks, which also serves warm drinks, is an absolute highlight. Also for us when we build the ice bar again. Cool.
But what else can you do besides stay here? What do you offer? We offer a sunset hike. Weather permitting, we will go to a viewing point with the guests. An unforgettable sight for many, standing again in the mountains at the height of the sunset in winter. An absolute dream.
Will marriage proposals also take place here? Oh yes, absolutely. – (laughs:) It’s romantic. I guarantee you, no one has ever said no up here. (laughs:) I can imagine. A night in an ice-cold igloo… isn’t something you get every day. Not every night, it must be said. – Absolutely.
And if you get out of the cold igloo and are lucky, you might see a few tracks in the snow, and the best way to spot them is with someone who knows them well. Which of you is on snowshoes for the first time today? You three? And how does it feel? – Hammer. You don’t sink like that. – Yes. There are animals that have a similar structure on their feet, the ptarmigans have built-in snowshoes and feathered legs and therefore cannot sink in as much.
Maybe we’ll discover them. (gasps:) Oh! – Who’s coming crawling up there? No ptarmigan. Howdy. – Hello. But do you know every ptarmigan here? Greetings too. The ptarmigans… – Hello! The ptarmigans are definitely at home here. – Mmm. They are there too. The question is where. Now they are where there is no snow.
So where the snow was blown away. There you can still find plants and seeds. And we want to look for this place right now. Is the Nebelhorn actually a good place to see lots of wildlife? Above all, we are very high up here. – Mmm. We’re at 1,800 here.
Could then go up to 2,200. And we have species here that are otherwise only at home in the high mountain regions. For example? The ptarmigan. Or the snow sparrow. In better visibility conditions you can see the golden eagle or perhaps even the bearded vulture. – Really?
Bearded vulture with a wingspan of 2.90 meters. Which of you has ever seen a bearded vulture? Of course you’re here often. – We are here more often. Are you from Ahlen? Ahlen Ski Club? (both:) Exactly. And do you sleep here regularly? – We have a hut there. And we’re happy about the chance to go along there. With an expert. What was the call again? That’s such a creaking noise. Are they shy, the ptarmigans? – Actually not. So, they are relatively familiar with ground enemies. Mmm. – You don’t actually know people as enemies. But they have a lot of respect for the golden eagle. Maybe there’s just a ski glove lying there. (Laughter) Look. It’s a surprise tour, so to speak. (quietly:) And? Do you see anything yet? Yes. It’s a metal ring. – Ah… That’s where the wire ropes are usually attached, I think, to secure snow groomers. Are you from the Alpinium? – Mmm. And this is like the interface between tourism here and nature conservation? And the train brings a lot of us up here too. Does that give you a stomach ache as, yes, a biologist, conservationist? I’ll put it this way: it’s a blessing and a curse.
Many people just drive up here, enjoy the fantastic panorama, drink a cup of coffee and drive back down. They are harmless to nature. The problem now is just… social media. So insider tips – hikes or snowshoe tours that haven’t existed before will be posted and you can download the coordinates.
Suddenly people are in areas where they weren’t before. A guided tour with you is of course great, but there are also people who say, no, they’d rather go alone. Where and how else can you observe animals here? A good option here is the winter hiking trail at the Höfatsblick station.
Or it’s the Nordwandsteig – up at the summit. There you have a spectacular view down into the Retterschwanger valley, and you can really see these 220 or perhaps even more peaks distributed throughout the entire Alpine arc, from the Zugspitze practically to the Widderstein. Yes, while some of the Ahlen Ski Club are skiing down, I have something else planned. Namely, to fly! Like an eagle. Up here, the Nebelhorn, is a mecca for paragliders like Tobi. The two of us are going to jump down there now. Woohoo! Hey! We’re up! Oah… That’s great… I think we’re forgetting time here, aren’t we? Total. Whether it’s five minutes, ten or 20. That’s how it is, yes. This is a real hotspot, the Nebelhorn. – Yes. For you aviators. Certainly one of the best flying areas in the Alps. Craziness. Due to the relatively high location, especially at the summit launch site, you have an early thermal release, which means you can also fly well with updrafts relatively early .
You can start in many wind directions. So… you actually have options spread out throughout the day . (sighs:) Too bad. This could go on forever. But: (on:) The earth has me again. And the next appointment is already waiting for me. Oh yes… These two are my next challenge. Hello! You are already strengthening yourself. Hello! – For what’s to come. What a lovely cafe here! Glad you did it. Absolutely. This is something of an insider tip, did you say? We absolutely love going here. It’s a vegan café, lunch is also possible.
And, yes, after coffee hours the place is cleared out, the floor is cleared, then you can do yoga here. – No really? (her:) Mega cool. It’s called a mandala. Mmm. – We really enjoy coming here. I also do yoga every now and then. Yes, yoga is relaxing. That’s something that’s good.
You could use it from time to time… (he:) It’s a good balance, that’s true. This is like the heart of Oberstdorf? (he:) You could say that – great restaurants, cafes. – Mmm. There’s a great ice cream parlor in the back, an insider tip in summer. Uh! (Laughter) A lot of tourists come here too. – Yes. Because of the sport, but also the wonderful landscape. – Yes.
But what is it like for young people? Is it booked enough? We really have everything, from… bars… We even have a little discotheque here. But I have to say, as an athlete you don’t really need that. Speaking of sport: you are the best in Germany. That’s right, official since last year.
Mmm. – Exactly. German champions in … ice dancing. Benjamin moved to Oberstdorf specifically to train with Jennifer. And even if the two have permanent partners and are not a couple, they spend a lot of time together. Do you always look forward to training? Ha… There are days like that and days like that. Most of the time, definitely. How often are you there? (he:) It always depends on the time of the season. But we basically have four or five days of training, one day off, and then the day comes, what will that be? five, six, seven hours together sometimes. – Yes.
You want to teach me something? – Yes. But now I’m a bit nervous. I’ll have to see how it feels first. Oh…yeah, okay. That looks relatively smooth. If you feel like you’re relatively safe, just try standing on one foot for a bit. Yes… Exactly, exactly. – Mmm. So… What we’re always told, of course: We always take our arms to the side. That you have a little more balance. It looks good too. – Exactly. That’s actually the be-all and end-all
. What we do should look best, as if it wasn’t strenuous, incredibly simple and very elegant. (Laughter) What is the difference between pair skating and ice dancing? (Jennifer:) Pair skating is also where women and men dance together. However, the women are thrown through the air, if you call it that. (Laughter) You’re not going to throw Jenny through the air? – No. (Jenny:) We are the dancers.
I pick up Jenny, sometimes carry her over the ice, but don’t throw her away. Can we also see you two, the German champion couple, here in the hall? (Benjamin:) We are on the ice every morning and afternoon . There are enough seats. (Laughter) You can watch us train. Can they get on the ice themselves? However. There is always a public run here in the hall.
Mmm. – You can also rent skates here. And also do it yourself. (Benjamin:) Try to keep turning and then lift your foot up at some point. – Oh God! Feel free to take your arms to the side again for balance. Exactly. Yay! -Oh! Very good. Very good. Wow! Look how beautiful! And now you. I’ll do the whole thing backwards. – Uh! But that’s crazy. You just do your hands… – Let’s go. Now I’m doing it and it looks somehow different. Then I always look at Jenny. Ah, look. Huh! – (Jenny:) Yes! Yay! Push yourself away. Exactly. Exactly exactly. Yes / Yes. Uh! Hu-hoo! – Oh God. Are you doing well? Nothing happens. (Man:) The eggs are then added to the flour and milk. I love it. After this sports session I deserve it. Yes. – The famous Kässpätzle from the Karatsbichl restaurant. Do you have some secret ingredient? The cheese, of course. (Laughter) It must be particularly good? – Correct.
I think the cheese and the flour make a big difference. That they have a bite too. That’s important to us, and that there are knöpfle and not such long-drawn spaetzle. That’s just the way we make Kässpätzle. Ugh! – This is put on top. What you are also known for are your Kässpätzle evenings. Yes. – How does that go? There are two variants. One variant is that you can walk out of town with the torchlight hike. The second option: You come here directly. This is always on Saturday evenings. Mmh… they look nice and fluffy.
Satisfied? – Yes. Then we add a little bit of cheese. Mmm. When it comes to cheese, we always use a nice mix. I do that myself. Spaetzle, I’m really looking forward to it. Onion lard on top. – Mmm. Nice and good, right? – Mmm. It’s not just the Kässpätzle that makes this place famous, but this is one of the most beautiful inns, I would say, in the entire Allgäu. Absolutely. – Yes absolutely. When you see it like that, it’s so beautiful. Yes, of course it has a different story than the Kässpatzen.
This is the … actually the cradle of skiing in Oberstdorf, you could say. The inn was actually founded because of skiing. Uh! – Or built up. Mmm. My grandfather and his brother taught ski lessons out here. Mmm. They’re right here! These are the beginnings here? These are the beginnings.
There were also quite a few well-known people or… Were any celebrities already here back then? Celebrities, yes, yes. – Who, for example? Magda Schneider, the actress. Romy Schneider’s mother? – Yes. The then Crown Princess of the Netherlands, Juliana, was very well known. She also took a course there.
She was there with the whole entourage. When the war was over, my grandfather built the first ski lift here in town. Back then it still had wooden supports. You didn’t have that much experience with building lifts. And then he went up the slope in front of the house, up this forest.
That was quite a mover, huh? – Yes, he was a doer. And your Kässpätzle evenings are taking place in here now? That’s how it is, yes. There by the tiled stove when it’s warmed up nicely. It’s nice and warm there. Can’t imagine anything better now. (Inaudible) – Ah! Our surprise guests are already arriving. Evi and her family.
Come on in, it’s nice and warm here. Knowing you, you were outside. – Hello. Have you done sports? Look, the table is already set. Oh nice, we’re happy. – And do you smell anything? Yes, we smell it. – Cheese spaetzle. There is nothing better. – Are you hungry? Yes. – Yes.
Well then, but they’re also available with food. Hello, greetings. – Hello, hello. I’ll go through. – Yes. Been on skis? – Yes, we were on skis. Ah, great. – We were on skis. Hannes, how are your Kässpätzle skills? Those are more with the Evi. Mmm. – It’s great here. Do you still like it? – I have already. You’re already over it. Then we have a little time. So now. (Laughter) A good one. – (Evi:) A good one. Mmm. Mmm! Great, right? – This tastes like good cheese. And? – Really good. I didn’t promise too much. (Hearty laughter)
(They toast each other.) Exactly. It’s really great here with you. Well, first you showed me Gerstruben, the beautiful mountain village. Now Karatsbichl. – Yes. But there is something else you shouldn’t miss in Oberstdorf. Oh, I’d be itching. Well, the ski jumps here in Oberstdorf are world class. And there is even one here that is one of the four largest ski jumps in the world. The Heini-Klopfer ski jump. And here you can make jumps over 200 meters. It’s crazy!
And it’s not just people who fly down them. There are also some who actually sprint up. And don’t worry, the ski jump isn’t on fire now. It doesn’t burn. But there is still a hot mission. Ha! (amused:) Haha! Wow, so many firefighters in one go. Where do you all come from? Aulendorf, Upper Swabia? – Aulendorf. Yes. -Ravensburg. Ravensburg? – Ravensburg too. Ravensburg. – Kempten. Kempten too. Oberstdorf? – That’s right. And you really have something crazy planned that I can’t even imagine. You actually want to jump up there now. You compete in competitions with other fire departments. – Yes. Where usually? – This goes nationwide. There are competitions in Berlin, in Cologne, in Rottweil, there is one near here.
But they all traditionally take place indoors, in taller buildings. And here it can be outside too. Then you can see what you’re doing up there, right? You’re training today, but… it’s also because you’re going to have a real competition here soon, right? Exactly. There will be the first competition this year.
On the ski jumping hill. Where the whole thing should go up. What is the challenge here? There is no break. Okay, then I’m excited. You all came from far away. Where are you from? – Neustadt an der Weinstrasse. From the Palatinate? – Yes. There are no jumps there either, right? – (both:) Nope. (off:) The fire brigade stair run takes place under the most realistic operating conditions possible. In full gear and, if possible, with a breathing mask. The entire equipment that the firefighters have to carry 412 meters of forest, 162 meters and up around 900 steps to their destination weighs between 25 and 30 kilograms.
(Deep breathing through mask) Unbelievable. Have a good fit up there. – Same to you. Come on. Come on! Seven, six, five, four… Oh, just two more! Yay! Wow, great. Oh. (gasping:) Yeah! – You did it, yeah. Clean. Excellent. I’ve already done a lot. But something like this… never. It surpasses everything. – Real? Yes. – How does it feel? What’s the worst? – It’s still downstairs. But then the last steps are actually double steps, in principle, in terms of height. And that pulls everything together again.
You know you have to go up there. And there are so many guys there, you can’t give up. Was it tiring? – Yes, sure. Now we can smile again. Top! In between you think to yourself: “I won’t do it again.” You stand at the top and think: “It was pretty good.” But… what’s the nastiest thing about the ski jump now? The last levels because they are higher than normal levels.
Stefan, you’re here from the ski jumping hill. Can you go to the ski jump all year round as a non-firefighter or non-jumper? Yes definitely. We are open every day. And every guest is welcome to come to the ski jump here. And on the one hand, enjoy the wonderful view.
And of course to welcome the firefighters in October. Did you count the steps in between? Phh, there’s no way to do that. Step by step and up. How were you? In the meantime I thought: “Oh dear… what have I done to myself now?” But now that we’re up here, the view.
Yes, it was a very good decision to come here. And it was a lot of fun. And next year (Inaudible). Will you be taking part in the competition in October? Yes. We’ll both come and take part next year. I thought it was great that I was able to be here.
And anyway: you are the greatest for me anyway. Heroes and heroines! Anyone on a winter vacation wants one thing above all: skiing! And I want that now too. And luckily not alone. Here, on the Fellhorn or Kanzelwand, one of the most beautiful ski areas ever, they say in the Allgäu. There you are. Wuh! Woohoo! Haha! Wonderful today, right? The Fellhorn is like your second home here? Yes definitely. Well, I think the ski club has been coming here since before I was born. This is a network between Austria and Germany. It goes further over there, down to Riezlern.
And there are quite a few kilometers of slopes. Super wide slopes, beautiful location. And I can drive and ski really well. We are lucky that we get cheaper ski ticket prices from the railway. And that makes it really affordable. Otherwise a ski holiday is of course not cheap, but thanks to this club,
Where you have the opportunity to come as a member. Of course that’s great, it’s a dream. (off:) The ski club’s aspiring snowboard instructors, Sebastian and Marius, have something very special planned today. We meet Sven for this. (on:) Sven, what is that? This is a splitboard. A splitboard? A snowboard that can be shared. Like a ski actually. And then when you get out, put it back together at the top.
Then you can leave. People used to go with snowshoes. But then you always had to carry the board. And then it occurred to us that we could also share it. And this has been going on for a long time. It’s just become really popular in the last few years.
So I’ll open the two levers here. Here on. – Mmm. Then I can take the board apart. Then you already have the two skis. You’re regular too, huh, left front? Yes. – Understood. You take them both with you and then? Exactly, I’ll take it with me and equip it with a VS device.
Then they get a shovel, a probe and a backpack. This is the safety equipment, it has to be there. When you go off the slopes, you have to have this with you. Where can you do that, in the middle of the ski area? Not in the ski area at all.
If so, then off the piste. So don’t run up the slopes, preferably in open ski terrain as a touring skier. – Mmm. Just as normal as the tourers. You shouldn’t go on the slopes. Wow, that’s awesome today, isn’t it? Crazy weather, so… – Phew! It couldn’t have been better. It’s also a bit of a way to clear your head, isn’t it? Totally, you don’t think about anything else. And then at the end of the day you ask yourself what day of the week it is?
You at SC Aalen not only have one hut on the Nebelhorn, but another one too? Exactly, we still have the old Eschbach down in the valley on the Fellhorn. For… I think over 15 years now. And then the members come here regularly. And… Hi! – (all:) Hello! Is everyone in a good mood again? Yes! You’re welcome to play along. What kind of game is there? – OK, pay attention! All you have to do is place your hand exactly as it is on a card. Let’s go! – So, let’s get her ready. Uh! – Nope! So. Ah! – The wrong way around. Uh! (They talk at once.) Yes! Uh! (Everyone laughs.) Tell me, is this how you spend your evenings here? That’s great. – Something like that. You have a really nice hut. It’s…still relatively new. There used to be an… well, an old hut on here.
And a new one was built on the ground. And it’s really modern now. – Yes. Yes, and with great bathrooms. – Underfloor heating. And underfloor heating, yes. – No! Yes. (They talk at once.) And ski socks, exactly. (Man:) And the heating. – And dishwasher. Very, very important. Ah! Okay, then no. I think it’s yours. So, I can only say: winter vacation in Oberstdorf – that’s it. And then with wonderful people like you. SC Aalen or whoever. Guys, come here and enjoy this, right? Happy game! – Happy game! SWR 2023
