Madeira Coast 2023
So we start this video where we left off the last time driving down the mountain to begin a tour of the South Coast driving from east to west and starting at pora D Cruz so we got down the mountain uh that was interesting it was a lot of hair pins uh a little bit of b-roll just before this to show you what it was like and bizarrely I had a 55 cater coach right behind me the whole way he was just hammering down some of
Those roads I’m surprised I was looking for a place to pull into it and passed anyway we eventually made it to Pora de Cruz um nice little town on the uh on the Northern coast of madira and there’s a big surf school here and as you can see over there there’s actually some
Quite good weaves so no wonder the Surfers are all Here okay so I’m just shooting where the waves are breaking on the Rocks Over The Far Side there um thousand to% trying to freeze it and get those drops and hopefully manage to get a few shots that can blend them together but I do want some of that gentle movement as
Well so I’m going to slow it down and see whether we can blend that in too so at the moment at F4 I’m at a thousandth of a Second [Applause] So let’s get back and see if we can find something else to a look at so why have I came up here you might ask uh fighting my way through some various plants and putting this in a very precarious position if you fall over I apologize and I hope you don’t
Cuz there’s a great big Stone there that would probably smack my pocket so what I’m trying to get here is if you can see all of these lovely red flowers I’m trying to get them as a bit of a foreground with the ccape Beyond whether it works or not I don’t
Know actually I think that might work obviously I’m going to have to focus stack I got to get one and let me think if I go to f11 and 50th of a second and if I get that little spot right in the center and then I zoom out to that shot
And try it again I should be able to blend those two exposures later on at least that’s the plan if it works here’s the Shot so we carried on walking around that Headland where we got a lovely view of that spit that comes out um one that I shot on the first time that I was out in madira I’ll stick that one up now Too and then we walking back to the car spotted this Little Flower sticking out of the side of this completely bare Hill had to try and shoot that see what it looked like w Pleas Okay so the reason we came down here is because over there there’s a place called two hidden waterfalls they’re not massive waterfalls at the moment [Applause] yeah So this is the most westerly point on Madera the fur most West Point Ponto de prago I’ll have to check that I’ll tell you where it is along here and I’m stood right in front of the faral the lighthouse so I’m going to head down
There a little bit and see if I can get a nice shot of the lighthouse Follow Me Down I’m not going to go too much further cuz there a nasty Cliff at the end and that is literally it that is that over there that’s the most westerly Point next stop is somewhere in America where abouts I don’t know I’ll have to look that up on the Map and there is the faral the lighthouse right Sun’s in kind of the wrong place at the moment but uh I’ll see if I can get a Shot so I think one of the most amazing things is is I’m just going to keep spinning this right round and I can see from here somewhere like well certainly more than 180° and there is absolutely nothing breaking that horizon line all the way absolutely Incredible Beau For the last few miles we’ve been driving through these forests that look really burn now judging by the looks of these trees they only seem to be burnt at the bottom so it doesn’t look like it was any kind of natural Wildfire or something must be some kind of
Deforestation or burning the undergrowth to support the new growth what an amazing Island this really is yesterday 18800 m above sea level at the top of the mountain today look at that beautiful blue sea beyond the Bund out Forest
In this video we continue down the mountain to Porta da Cruz, before heading back to our hotel in Funchal for the night.
The next morning we continue our coastal tour along the south coast, passing under Waterfall of the Angels and on to Madalena do Mar to see the 2 Hidden Waterfalls, before finally reaching the furthest West point on the island – although not the furthest west in Europe, that accolade belongs to the Azores – and the Farol at Ponta do Pargo.
On our way back we pass through several miles of burned forest, which looks to me like deliberate burning back of the undergrowth.

I love the jazz guitar which reminds me of Carlos Santana and fits perfectly the sunny summer feel of Madeira.
