Thuringia, a state in central Germany, contains the city of Weimar. It is recognized for the humanistic cultural movement known as Weimar Classicism. The two poets who resided in the city are honored by the Goethe and Schiller monument in front of the German National Theater. The Goethe National Museum is located in the baroque-style mansion that was once Goethe’s home. Schiller’s house and the Schiller Museum are adjacent. The architect Walter Gropius’s creations are on display at the Bauhaus Museum.
