Wow we didn’t know her and um by the time she came for us in Jamaica at 16 I although my grandmother sent me to good school I used to go to gram College a Crossroads Jamaica I went to two School Wesley primary on Tower Street then I went to grantom college

Because I was very very bright so my grandmother took me to grantom college and I did the entrance Examination for an I pass so they accept me so my grandmother I remember she used to pay $24 per term which which was a lot of money a lot of money back then wow you

Know most people wasn’t even earning that in six months wow yeah so your grandmother was rich my my my grandfather he was into properties oh a lot of people who see me I know and his name was Benjamin Mr Benjamin so he he own a lot of properties and he rent them

Out okay and apart from that he was a merchant tayor he had his tailor business okay down Orange Street that he used to employ that is in Kingston in Kingston Jamaica yeah he used to employ a lot of men to sew the clothes wow and um my grandmother she

Used to sell in the market she used to sell cook food in the market okay Carnation Market wow yes so um you know they could afford to send me to good school and um I met my my ex-husband and um I got pregnant yeah early I had a child just

Before my 15th birthday 15 yes oh wow yes so you know when girls are young people have children at an early age don’t write them off okay because my son hasn’t brought me any shame he he graduate from University he has his his Bachelors he’s a qualified Microsoft

Engineer he’s qualified in it and so you know he grew and it didn’t bring any shame to my door wow you know and I I really like that that if girls gets pregnant young don’t write them off WR don’t write them off because you passed through that stage and and you you see

Younger than me okay he was 14 I was 16 and um I I was there hoping that I would get registered into school yeah and um she didn’t say anything so I asked her I said what’s happening about me going back to school she said to me you can’t

Go back at school your age up in a school you have to go work cu the we can s and expect um she call her her children father name and said you can’t the can’t expect him for m so I got the message from she said that

Okay you know I got the message from she said that so um she took me to the career’s office okay in the UK at the time and they got me a job in Woolworth that time Woodworth was still about is like a big supermarket sells all the stuff everything everything I

Think it’s in Kenya also yes so um I started working there however I am a sociable person so I used to talk a lot to people and um they told me in W that they’re looking for people to work in the bank okay so I went and I took the

Test then that time you took a Entrance Test yeah and um if you passed they employ you I passed the test and they said well yes you pass um but we need to get two reference but the back them times the application form was your name your address and not even your qualification

Just your name your address and two referees I didn’t know anybody I just come to England to the UK I never know anybody to give reference for me yeah so I didn’t I didn’t pursue the job in the bank wow I still uh what I did mhm because I wasn’t going to full-time

School um I got talking to people and they said but you can go to evening class oh wow yeah so I went and I register um for evening class and back then you pay one and you could do five subjects wow Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday a subject every

Day I did English math German and French so you speak German I can read read better in German I can speak a little and understand more but I can read better in German my French is not so good I find German easy to easier to learn yes okay yes so um when we

Arrive them times there are this um big big tank that you could they it’s an electric tank to eat up the water so we used to have B once a week and I remember my mother said to us me and my brother must have bought last because she said only used to coold

Water okay okay yeah and back in the’ 70s there was it’s like there was no summer it was cool all the time wow even in the summer there wasn’t even any summer and we arrived or maybe it’s because you had moved there so for you

It’s always cold it was it was very very cold and them times it was foggy you could stand here and you couldn’t see there oh my God yeah it was foggy very cold and and back then it was parine eater it wasn’t Central eating so all of

Us would congregate in the one room where the paraffin eater was W so you know then you know we would have to have bought L and by the time our our other siblings of their bought and mother stepa of their bought for us the Water by that time the

Water is cool I know so we had to have cool bars at them time so um my brother one day said to me m you know that mother send me to school in a different name so I said what do you mean instead of sending him to school in his name

That he’s registering of passport and all of that she send him in the name of like the children them where she for the other man in in that Sur name so I went and I asked her about it I said to her do you know that’s going to cause

Complications for him if he once he finish because back them times you get a lot of apprent it was just apprenticeship as you leave school you can go and do your apprenticeship I say it’s going to cause complication for him she said oh um um

Um it can always change it back okay he can always change it back and it calls up until today it caused complication for my brother because when he finish his apprenticeship yeah all his qualifications was in the name that’s not registered on his birth certificate and passport yeah so they’re like who is

This person exactly so he couldn’t use any of his his qualification And they testing they testing uh tonight oh they testing is called fireworks okay they testing fireworks so um because of that uh we because we didn’t have the knowledge like like now to say you know what try and change back his name from that time he relocate to Norway where

Our father was okay and um he couldn’t use any of his qualifications because by then he was using his right Sur name you know so none of the qualification that he he could use you know it was very very difficult for your brother we we me and my brother we was treated as

I turned 18 you did another exam or the same exam no this one was for nursing to train as a nurse so when you did you are not 18 they said you have to be 18 yes so when you did again you had you had achieved 18 you did another exam or the

Same exam that you did the same exam what I did okay was so you just waited yes okay wow and then I started doing my nursing and um that was it but that is my story wow my story and until today yeah yeah uh you know this it still
