Mandalay, Myanmar – Formerly the capital of the ancient Burmese Empire, Mandalay continues to remain an important city in Northern Myanmar. Home to thousands of pagodas, monasteries and temples, this city is one of the most historic cities in all of Southeast Asia and has a very stark contrast compared to the bustling former capital of Yangon.

Places Visited:

1. U Bein Bridge – An absolute must see and highly recommended to visit in the morning! This is the world’s most rustic and beautiful bridge and I could not believe my eyes as I witnessed one of the most beautiful sunrises in the world.

2. Mandalay Palace – Although no longer filled with the original buildings, the palace gives visitors a good idea of what the original palace would have looked like and how Burmese royalty governed their territories.

3. Kuthodaw Pagoda – The World’s Biggest Book! This is probably the most interesting pagoda considering it is a world record holder and is gorgeous with the thousands of white marble pagodas.

4. Shwenandaw Monastery – An ancient teak wood monastery, the carvings on the walls and pillars of this structure are immaculate and should not be missed.

5. Mandalay Hill – The best viewpoint for Mandalay City! The hill gets pretty busy during sunset but the view is 100% worth it! It takes about half an hour to get up to the top and immediately you’ll be rewarded with 360 degrees panoramic views of the city.
