Soller – Mallorca – 30th December 2023

Well today is Saturday it’s the 30th of December very close to the end of the year now and we’ve come to uh soer and I think probably a lot of other people have had the idea of coming to soer it’s Market Day in the town we not actually

Got there yet uh the car park we usually used uh part of it’s under construction so about a third of the car park is closed off uh so we drove further in and uh we managed to find some street parking well outside a very interesting place it’s called Luna and it is a

Sobrasada factory that can’t be out B can it very interesting well we’ve been in and done a shopping and uh we’ve got some black pig uh sober which is pante which is one I particularly wanted and uh and has got some Pate as well um do

Quite ENT Pate with in the evenings so oh that’s a good bite to start so now we can go and uh make our way into the market and uh we’re very close to a bridge here which is quite nice I like I always like looking over Bridges and uh probably unusually there’s water

Down there in the little torrente here and I don’t know if you can tell but in the background you’ve got the mountains but there’s clouds and smoke it’s winter time it’s a bit gray and but the clouds are well below the top of the mountains and because it’s a little bit

Cooler they’ve got the fires so there’s a little bit of smoke it’s a bit hazy very autumnal just going to over the other side of the road so I can show you where the torrenti goes and that’ll be making its way down towards uh the port of soya

So yeah one of the pretty Villages very pretty villages on the island and uh it’s got these wonderful streets with beautiful old architecture and uh generally very well looked after it’s also if you want to come and live here or even stay here on the holiday it’s now become very expensive

And there is a little bit of concern from the locals that it’s becoming too expensive for them to to live here and for their children to buy properties here hopefully they The Village won’t lose its character a lot of foreigners live here this Cosmopolitan area I just hope we’re going to find our

Car on the way back it’s definitely a different uh different place to where we usually park and these are streets that uh never walked through before another bridge and another little T there the car par usually come to isn’t it now we’re coming to um another car park but we have parked

In this one before very interesting building across the road that is totally derelict that could be made into something very nice I’m sure so we didn’t even uh try to go in this particular car park it was uh chalk a block before we started so we drove past

It and uh we’re lucky to get some street parking uh tting leading right up into the mountains looks like they’ve been doing some work here clearing out uh some of the trees so there might not be a lot of water in there now a duck down there some

Ducks but what they don’t want is the disaster that they had in other parts of the island when a lot of water comes down and they they can’t cope with it and if the trees are there stemming the flow of the water we could have potential [Applause] problems so as we came in the first car park there’s a lot of Road works a lot of the car park is actually uh all under construction reformation and then as we walk uh driving along the road we’re looking at some side roads and they were also dug up completely and therefore

Closed those was the roads who would normally have walked into the village and here can see major work going on leaving us up into middle of the Town tip toop tapers no be few places not open I guess just coming up on the left there a really nice uh old oldy worldy

Hotel not open it’s the the Grand Hotel Grand Hotel restaurant and Spa and they’re closed until February but uh I’ve actually been in that hotel and it is very pretty just coming up on the left hand side is the indoor market it’s fruit and Vegetables if we go in there we’ll go there on the way back so we don’t want to be carrying everything around the town uh busy in there people getting their supplies so we W up a little bit further get to the outside market and um so yeah busy

Area and uh people from the hills will come down to do their Market Shopping Just here we’ve got the tram lines these are the tram lines that uh take the trams down to the port of soer see how busy it is we’re not even in the middle of the town Yet it’s quite a big place for S 662 Square met we just bought some so s and he a so s stall all sorts of other Sausages just coming up towards the To Square Church looks beautiful doesn’t it yes it is a pretty Church a different design to the many of the churches here on the Island I do like to make videos of the churches simply because shows a little bit of the history I wasn’t thinking the tram would actually be running at this time of the year I was wrong TR is Running people on it a few empty Seats yeah still quite a few people on There These are nice Decorations very typical at this time of the year lots of almonds lots of sugar very Sweet and honey as well jars and jars of honey We should call in for a coffee toilet we usually go to this [Applause] one this road takes you up towards the uh Train Station train train that takes you into the center of Palmer and that’s where the tram starts as Well get your jum jums Here more flowers Plants if you staying in palmanova it’s 50 nearly 60 to get a taxi P so cheaper to come on the bus back on the bus or even the train train is quite expensive though I find it is very much aimed at tourists uh but does offer spectacular

Views um over the central part of newor and uh up through some tunnels and uh if you get on the right one it will stop overlooking uh the town so yeah doesn’t appear to be running though this time just the other side that door um I assume it’s still there but there

Were two art galleries one devoted to juano and the other to Picasso it’s a very old door and it says you get your tram tickets over that way we’re not going to take the tra on board sorry on board here sorry didn’t read it properly did I

And I guess there’s a few quite a few tourists here but um so yeah he’s a place that is fairly busy all the year round and uh gets a different sort of tourist so people will come here in the cooler months to go walking in the mountains um it is quite spectacular if

You’re into that sort of thing beautiful mountain m s right up to the reservoirs gor Blau and Kuba quite a hike though and then we are in the tra monana which is uh UNESCO world heritage site because of its beauty just coming down now the side of the church Cafe’s busy busy Busy interesting sculpture straight out of the tree that was left there the stump Is where we quite often go for tap us very busy today just a little bit more of the market down here was reminding me as we were coming in uh was around about this time last year we came here and she bought the scarf that she’s Wearing steps up to the [Applause] church some books in English down There people have and these here all by a famous local author Anna Nicholas who lives in or close to Soya English on here a Nicholas down here just looking at those I can investigate a bit more of the square I’m sure it looks really pretty in the evenings when the the lights are On it’s a a bank in front there it was like actually at the top it says it’s the bank of soier and down below it’s now heart of santande and up here this is the the church facade something quite Different and then just lovely buildings around the square and Al different and you get a little one there in the middle there just squeezed in between two Others Shirley I just had a nice coffee there with uh with Shirley Shirley Roberts from soer who writes in The Daily Bulletin and keeps everybody informed with what’s going on here in so yeah And she tells me how pretty the lights are they on the they look lovely didn’t you they really did she showed a picture which is all nice and blue uh then said they got a problem with the electricity some of the lights have not been working over the last day or Two yeah22 Ideally I just want to go it’s a big stage there and this will be the center for the celebrations for New Year’s Eve and they’ve got 2024 already up there for the Lights and just having a look at a stall over there which Is So’s uh bought some cocka there this is all in Aid of uh local school and they’re planning to go to Seva in April of 2024 is hard just coming back to the plants she’s going to choose one to take home there she’s chosen one still got the lovely funes and uh all the different trees here happy yes there we go a bu and I popped to put this in for the

  1. Lovely to see Soller again. I was there in the first week of January 2022 and remember it was bustling even then, plus got the tram to the port. I also had a frothy chocolate drink at that cafe you mentioned. I think it was one of the photos I may have sent you. If not I will post it on the FB page if i find it😊

  2. Lovely walk through Soller and the market. I noticed Anita bought a nice Clivia plant I love them a nice touch of colour for the winter months. Thanks Steve and Anita.
