Podzimní cestování – 7. díl
It’s early September, It’s been 3 weeks since we returned from our trip to the Balkans. and our asses are starting to itch. We’re figuring out where to go for at least the weekend. We don’t really care and we’ll go to Prcice.
And why not, since there’s a nice little road just outside of Prcice. Hotel Monínec. We’ve been there a couple of times and we’d love to come back. to spend a weekend here. We stop at a friend’s house on the way. Zdakov Bridge, where we take a short walk to Krkavci rock,
Which offers a nice view of the Orlik Reservoir. Returning to the motorbike, Martina found some nice porcini mushrooms. We continue to another technical monument, this time to the Stádlecky Bridge. The Stádlecky Bridge over the Lužnice River has been standing since 1975. under the town of Stadlec.
And is the last surviving Empire chain bridge in the Czech Republic. Enough bridges, we’re going to the hotel in Moninec, to enjoy the spa and have a good time. In the morning, after a heavy rain. is gradually clearing. and we’re gonna have a great sunny Sunday.
At Sedlcany, we stop briefly at a motorbike, which is decorated with parts from a 70-year-old motorcycle, is meant to bring happiness to bikers and their fans. Not far from Sedlcany on the Vltava River in the village of Zvirotice my grandmother grew up, when the Slap dam was being built,
Were evicted to the Sudetenland and their house flooded. Unfortunately, even though it’s dry, this time, the foundation of the house is not yet visible. and so we go through the new Zvirotice and continue to the 48 meter high lookout tower Drahoušek near the village of Osecany. We run up 168 steps,
♪ we’re gonna make a click, click, click ♪ and we’re off to the central village of Krecovice. and before Otik could say “Beroun” we are driving along the dam of the Slap dam and return upstream to Zduchovice, from where we’ll hike to the Solenice Horseshoe.
To one of the amazing meanders of the Vltava Cascade, is the best view from the rock formation Na Vrane near the top of Na Altanku. On St. Wenceslas Day, just like last year we’re going to extend the summer, but this year we got caught in the rain. and a little cooler,
Which wouldn’t be that big a deal, if we hadn’t been wearing breathable summer boots. Tuesday after work, we’re sitting on a motorcycle. and we arrive at the reserved hotel in Dürnstein. Fortunately, the landlady was very nice, She made us big teas. and we had the use of a bathtub,
Which we warmed up nicely. In the morning we continue south to the island of Losinj. At the border with Slovenia we put on our waterproofs, to find out after crossing the border bridge that we don’t need them. Anyway, it happens.
In Slovenia, a little bit about Postojna. at the Avio Pub near the airport, where they have Czech beer “Bernard” on tap, but most importantly, the food is good. We can recommend it to everyone. When you drive by, stop by. We’re just stopping at the military museum in Pivka,
We don’t have time to go on a tour, and we may not even be interested. After three o’clock we are at the ferry to Cres and after five o’clock we check in as we did last year. in a motorcycle couple’s apartment Andrea and Igor in Mali Losinj.
We stay on the island for three nights, we had more time to walk around downtown, but mostly to explore the wild beaches here, which are now deserted in September. And why did they come here? The main reason is, that Lošinj is the warmest place available in autumn. place from us in autumn.
Which allowed us to still be in Ljosinj at the end of September. to take a dip in the sea. On Thursday we reached the southernmost point of the island , from where we followed the “tourist” trail to Plieski Bay. It was very thorny in places.
And I’m sure there are better roads. Our reward was a beautiful beach. On Friday, we chose a beach not far from the Liska Slatina airport, Unfortunately, it got cloudy for a while. and so we decided to go take a look to the historic town of Osor,
Which is separated by a swing bridge between the islands of Cres and Losinj. Evidence of the ancient past can still be found in the town today, remains of walls, foundations of houses and temples. We leave Mali Losinj on Saturday, we board the ferry and return home.
On the way, we stop for a tour of the Skocjan caves, which are among the most beautiful caves cave systems in Slovenia, which is confirmed by the fact that they’ve been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1986. The total length of the caves is 5,800 metres.
And the river “Reka” was involved in its creation, actually a river called the River. Interestingly, the discovery of parts of this cave of this cave system was the Czech mining engineer Anton Hanke. There is also a cave named after him. one of the main parts of the cave, the Hanke Canal.
At dusk we arrive at Möderbrugg, where we have booked a room at the Papillon Inn. We can certainly recommend it as well, decent accommodation and cuisine for the money. The last day was probably the worst for us so far as far as weather goes, the temperature dropped to 6°C in places.
And we were accompanied by unpleasant rain for most of the journey. At times it was so intense that we had to stop. It was a bit of a bummer at the end. Although we thought it was the last trip of the season, the weather turned uncharacteristically summery in late October
And we made plans to head in the direction to the iconic Neuschwanstein Castle. After work, it’s classic, we get on the motorbike. and go as fast as we can. Finally we check in at Bad Wörishofen, from where we take the Romantische Straße via Irsee, Altenstadt to Füssen.
Enjoying the winding road, through some really beautiful Bavarian countryside, when in autumn the peasants here fertilize with honest manure. In Füssen, we visit the Hohen Schloss. and walk through the medieval streets of the old town with its small shops. We have lunch and continue to the nearby Neuschwanstein Castle.
It was built in 1869. for King Ludwig II of Bavaria. as an idealized idea of a knight’s castle. We check into Marktoberdorf in the evening. at the Trendic Hotel, which is unmanned but very nicely equipped. We head downtown for dinner, where we’re surprised by the local festivities.
Next day we want to take a peek into the Austrian Alps, but we make an unscheduled stop just outside of Reutte. at the Ehrenberg ruins, which is also the site of the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in the world 403 metres long and 110 metres high. That’s always a challenge for me.
We’re going back to Germany on the mountain roads. We take a break for a snack at Lake Walchensee. and then continue on towards home. We book our last night’s lodging at a highway Irschenberg Motel.
The last day of our tour in Bavaria we stop at the lookout tower at Wasserburg on the Inn. Too bad it was closed. Let’s go to the next lookout tower that was in the area. Wildfreizeitpark in Oberreith. The area is mainly for families with small children.
There is a lookout tower on the hill from which the zipline leads. We wanted to try it, but we’d have to wait. so we check out the animals and continue on our way home. Our last stop is just over the Czech border. at the ruins of Kürnberg, dating back to 1354.
The castle ruins at Stamsried are still considered one of the largest castle complexes in the Upper Palatinate. It lies hidden on the wooded Heitberg hill. We’ll enjoy our coffee here, as we reminisce about our travels. and say goodbye to our travel season. in one track. Mostly that would be it,
But our last trip was on the last day of the year. On New Year’s Eve, it was like spring, a beautiful 15 degrees, we went to roast marshmallows at a nearby Hradiste quarry and that was the last stop of the 2022 season. Thank you for your patronage.
