Surrounded by BATS in Bangladesh |Pakistan to Bangladesh [S.3-Ep.9]
I hope you can see that, we have bats hanging all over there, and this noise is coming from them. All we have is slush ahead, and this bridge… Helmet…helmet… You’ll burn it then? -Yes. -This is for burning purposes? -Yes. Okay… Now I understand. We only have slush ahead. Okay brother…
Thank you. -Allah Hafeez. -Allah Hafeez. Assalamalaikum internet and good morning from Barishal in Bangladesh. Right now, it is 5:45 in the morning, and welcome back. Welcome back. Uh… Just like yesterday, I wanted to start early from here today So I did not start the intro from the room.
Instead, I was setting everything so that we would start early. So our today’s plan is not very long. So today we’ll go to a very ancient and interesting market called guava Market (floating market), which is a 200 year old floating market. It is 40-45 Km away from Barishal.
So it’ll be a 1 hour ride, Inshallah. So we’ll go there, explore that market, and then we’ll continue our journey towards the South of Bangladesh, to the south coast of Bay of Bengal. Bay of Bengal, to a city named Kuakata. I’ve heard that it’s a very beautiful city.
There are very beautiful beaches there, so we’ll go there and spend the night there, Inshallah. I’ve heard that sunset is very beautiful in Kuakata, so we’ll try to see the sunset there. These are the empty streets right now, Empty streets of Barishal.
Barishal district is called the Venice of Asia, or maybe Venice of South East Asia I guess. There are so many small canals and rivers that it looks like Venice. So the market we’re now heading to, guava Market, it is located on one of those rivers,
Or maybe it is spread across many rivers wherein people sell guavas. This entire area is famous for its guavas. So the economy of this entire area, I mean the economy of the farmers here depends on guavas. If they have good guava harvest, then they spend the year well,
And if their guava harvest (Amarood) is bad, then their year doesn’t go well. So join me today in the ride towards the ancient, famous guava floating market, and then towards… where were we going…Kuakata. Let’s go. Let me go… Wow…
Today we do not have much traffic with us, but then we have high dog traffic. Look at this beautiful road. If you keep riding, you do not feel the humidity much, you don’t feel much suffocation or humidity,
But as soon as I stop, the humidity affects so much that you’ll start sweating. Google says me to turn right. But all we have is slush ahead and this bridge… Whoa !! Where is it taking me from? Wow… -Where to? -Market. I should go from there?
But then why is Google taking me from here? I have no idea. -Go completely straight. -Straight ahead? -Yeah, straight ahead. -Okay. Salaam-Alaikum uncle. How are you? Guava market? -Foreigner? -Yes, foreigner. -From Pakistan. -Pakistan? -Yeah. Wow. It is very…and it is made of bamboos. Will we able to cross it on bamboos?
Wow !! It is shaking. People are coming from this way in their boats. They’re going somewhere here. Look at that bridge, it is so beautiful. We have lots of slush here. And this small bike in this slush… also its tyres are… they’re not off-road tyres. They are street tyres.
So we got stuck there. That guy is carrying the bamboo sticks and going for his work. See this guys… how beautiful is this bridge looking, and then the narrow canals of this type. This is the real beautiful Venice. Venice in Europe feels nothing before this. Look at this. I mean…really. Salaam-Alaikum.
What’s up brother? All good? Where is the guava market? -Guava market? -Uh-huh. Guava Market is on the Nobogram road. -Nobogram? -Yeah. -I must go Straight? Straight and then? Straight on this road. -Oh, complete straight? Uh…I did not understand it. -Where are you from? -Pakistan. Salaam-Alaikum brother. -Salaam-Alaikum.
What can I get for breakfast? Breakfast? What do you have for breakfast? Paratha? -Paratha, Mishti doi… -What is Mishti doi? -Rosogolla. -Rasgulla? This is egg. Make me one egg. Join me for breakfast. You join me. -No, you have. So I have this paratha for breakfast. Omelet,
With that we also have this dal, dal. Let’s see how is the dal. Mm… Very tasty. -Pakistani biryani is good? -Yeah. -Where did you eat the biryani? You get Pakistani briyani in Dhaka? -Yeah. -Oh… He has now given me Doi(Yogurt). I don’t know how they make it, but its taste is…
Taste is sweet and sour. Like custard. Like pudding. Making friends in Bangladesh is very easy. The three guys sitting with me there while I was having food, after the breakfast they said that they would pay my bill.
I tried convincing them to let me pay even their bills, but they did not agree. They said that I was their Pakistani brother, so I am their guest. Now we have the final 1 or 2 Km left. Just 1 Km I guess. And the roads like this. -Salaam-Alaikum. -Walekum-Salaam.
There is no historical evidence about why this market is floating and why was it built hidden here. But this market has been here for 200 years. Salaam-Alaikum. -Where is the guava market? -Guava market? -Yeah. Uh…Pyara Market? -Your country name? -Pakistan. -Pakistan? -Uh-huh. -One hour late.
-1 hour later? Its not open now? -No. It is ahead? Do you know Bangla? No Bangla. I know Hindi, Urdu, English. -English? You don’t know Bangla? -No, I don’t know Bangla. So…where is the market? -Guava market is 1 km ahead in this direction. -Oh, 1 Km? Okay…1 km straight here.
-Have some Tea with us. -No, thank you. Thank you very much. -Welcome. Salaam-Alaikum. I think even Hindus live here, because I can see a temple here. This is a Hindu temple here. Houses are hidden behind the trees. Yeah, this is another Hindu temple here.
I think now we’ve reached the right destination, as I can see these smaller trucks here. And… Salaam-Alaikum brother. Salaam-Alaikum kid. Where is the guava market? Pyara market. -Pyara market? -It’s just ahead here. -Oh…it’s more ahead? Thank you. There we see the boats. Brother…where is Pyara market? It’s inside?
Oh okay, we have to go in boat? Where do I park the bike? Oh… Salaam-Alaikum -Walekum-Salaam. You want a boat ride? -Yeah. How much will you charge? -1500. -1500? -Yeah. -1500 is very high. [Speaking in Bengali] No…1500 is very high. [Speaking in Bengali]
We have a school here, and the guy has asked me to park the bike here. So I’ve parked the motorcycle here, and we’ll go with him in his boat to explore the guava market. So… There are some rivers and streams of canals in this direction,
And the guava market is situated there. Hey brother… Is the helmet there? How much will you charge? -1500. -1500? -Yeah. -1500 is very high. 1500 is very high. We’ll take you around all the places. [Speaking in Bengali] -We’ll show you the market, hotel, and park. -Uh-huh.
How much time will it take? -4 hours. -4 hours? -Yes. Welcome to the Venice of Asia. As I’ve already told you, this area of Barishal is a very famous guava market. It’s very old and historical. This market has been here for more than 200 years.
It is somewhere inside in this direction. In front of us is a Hindu temple here. He was saying me that, almost all the people living here are Hindus. Because we have some language problem here, I think he said that around 5000-50,000 Hindus live here.
So it should be 5000-50,000, but I think he said that around 50,000 Hindus live here, because 5000 would be too less. So the entire market here is Hindu market as they live here, and we already have the first guavas here in front of us. -Narayan babu. -Narayan? Salaam-Alaikum. -Walekum-Salaam.
There is so much silence here, that we can only hear the sound of water paddles, the sound of some birds chirping here, or the sound of ducks around us eating something. This sound…I don’t know which bird it is. This is so relaxing. This is really surreal !!
I mean…having this experience when we’re coming from a noisy environment where there is always sound pollution, it could be any sound, sound of a refrigerator, TV, computer, typing, traffic, there is always some sound there, but here there are no such sounds except the sounds of birds. What are these here?
Uh…I think they are… -Brinjal(Aubergine). -Brinjal? -Yeah. -Oh yeah, these are brinjals. Wow. Nice… The sounds we are getting here are all captivating. The sound of water, the sound of paddle like this one now… soft bird sounds, and soft sounds of the insects on the trees.
Even when people are passing by, they’re not making any sound. So there’s no noise at all. Everyone is busy in their own work, it is very peaceful here. WOW !! Is this amra? -Yeah, amra. -Look on this side. -This side? Yeah, here we have amra which we ate yesterday. Wow.
Pyara(Guava)? -Yeah, pyara and amra. -That is pyara? -Yeah, its pyara. -So, those are the guava trees there. Here they call guava as pyara. Here we have amra, on this side is lemon, on this side we have banana. Guys, here….this is…
If this is the heaven, then how would the real heaven look like? We have so many fruits everywhere here. If you see here, this water channel has become even more narrow now. It has become more smaller, and here we have multiple…
This could be one water way where people would go maybe to drop their guavas, and this is another channel. On this side, it is completely a banana jungle. In front of us here I think… is this the bazaar? -No, its the park. -Park? -Yeah. -Uh-huh okay, this is the park. Interesting.
It is not a very easy task to get off the boat. Salaam-Alaikum. Uh-huh… What do we say to greet them? What do you use instead of Salaam-Alaikum to greet? -Walekum-Salaam. -Namaste? -Yeah, namaste. -Namaste…okay. Namaste. Namaskar. I’m now going on this… On this bridge.
Let’s go there and see what is it on the other side. Going on this bridge is… Look at this. This is entirely made up of wood. Whoa !! There is no other support here on left side. Look at that. You yourselves tell me in the comments below,
Is the Venice located in Italy beautiful? Or is this Venice beautiful? For me…this is the real Venice. It is so beautiful here and there are no other tourists. I’m the only guy here right now. I’m the only person here !! Just imagine it, I’m the only guy wandering in Venice.
Can you see this in that ugly Venice? Look at this here. And…this is the natural beauty, all types of fruits, and they’re not even expensive. and come on, just one espresso costs 5 Euros in the other Venice !!
Here you can get fruits for an entire week in the same 5 Euros !! All types of fruits. Bananas, guava, papaya, uh…amra, whatever you may think of. I’m now trying to go to the top. I’ll show you the view from the top.
Because our drone had crashed earlier, let’s see if we can get some view from the top here. Look at this. Whatever view you are getting from here… Hopefully… This is so relaxing… Its unbelievable !! It’s actually inexpressible in words !! You have to come here and experience this feeling.
Experience this environment. Namaskar(Hello) brother. Let’s go. Where is our boat? I should come from there? -Come from here. -Okay, coming from here. Okay… Oh crap… Okay…let’s go. Hello brother. What’s up? All good? How much does one guava cost? -Pardon? -How much does one guava cost? Look at them. Oops… How much for one?
How much Taka? Well guys, let’s eat our first guava here. I don’t know if its clean or not, but… Mm… It’s fragrance…wow !! Mm… It smells amazing !! Mm… Its amazing !! Thank you brother. Thank you. It’s very fun eating it. Now he’s going to the market to sell those guavas.
He says that one mann (Forty kilogram) costs 700 Taka. One mann is for 700 Taka? One mann? -Yeah… -Yeah. -Forty kilogram, right? -Yes. -How much does that cost? -700 Taka. -700 Taka? One mann for just 700 Taka, that is around 6 Euros for 40 kg of guava.
40 kg for 6 Euros, and at our place, in Europe, we get one piece for a minimum of 1 Euro !! Here you get 40 kg for 7 Euros, that’s unbelievable !! I think I’m moving to Bangladesh. Yeah…I think so.
I hope you can see that, we have bats hanging all over there, and this noise is coming from them. Whoa !! Holy Sh*t !! Look there, on the top. Look there. I’ve never seen so many bats in live. Like live !! WOW!! See there, one of them just flew.
It was so big !! Because Venice of the East is very huge and this video is already very long, so I’ll conclude this video here, so we’ll see the floating guava market in the next video, check out the local village there,
We’ll also visit a local school and meet the headmaster, teacher there, and then we’ll continue our journey forward to Kuakata. So I hope you liked this video so far. If you did, then as always, please give it a like and subscribe, and then I’ll see you in the next video,
With Floating Guava Market. Until then, take care, and Assalamalaikum 🙂

Arshad vai, thank you very much for taking the trouble to visit this part of Bangladesh. This is a one of the very unique and secluded places not only in Bangladesh but also in the whole world. People living here are as soft as its soil, as calm as its water. They live their entire life with the nature without destroying it, because this is our mother. It feed us, provide us expecting no return.
This is the country worth dying for, this the country we fought for.
