Military Space-A Adventures (Part I Trials, Tribulations, Tokyo)
Hey this is Ed and I’m Tracy and we are going on our first ever spontaneous trip tomorrow morning we are trying to catch a military space available flight to Asia there’s one flight going to Japan and there’s one flight going to Korea this is the first time that we have ever
Not spent hours and hours planning a trip and it’s just totally winging it and so either you will see us soon in Asia or you might just see us back at Home While in the Army for 35 years Eddie Tri traveled the world meeting so many interesting people and experiencing different cultures but only where the military told him to go fortunately during our 25 years of marriage a few of his assignments gave us the opportunity to visit some pretty
Amazing places too so come join us on this adventure of a lifetime as the L Roes Jump Around the World we are on our way to Seattle from Spokane it’s about a 5H hour drive so our flight roll call is at 5:30 a.m. so we have to be there sometime between
1:30 and probably 4:00 a.m. at the latest so we’re hoping to get Seattle hang at our cousin’s house and maybe get a quick nap in before we have to head to seac We just got done checking in we got here at 2:00 in the morning and when we got here I swear there was like 100 people but big dou line so who knows we might be hanging out in Seattle for a while yeah you watch the 72-hour schedule that
Comes out online and then you just show up at the airport and you check in for the flight and then you wait we did not make it love to fight another Well I just checked the schedule of the flight that went out last night that we opted to not try and get on and we would have gotten on it because they didn’t fill all the seats hopefully we made the right decision and going to mord super early tomorrow morning and
Trying to get on that flight was the right choice see We’ve been sitting in the car for 3 hours and they haven’t even opened the doors yet they finally open the doors apparently the flight was delayed and nobody updated the online website so now we are what going to be getting on the plane in a couple hours and I think it’s about a
4our flight to Anchorage and another eight to Korea we have Tickets here we go here we Go so we finally made it to Alaska but now our plane is broken down so no better way to spin it than walk a couple miles to get some Burger King those are death words when they say maintenance issue praying we get out of here quickly so much for getting the plane fixed
Quickly they told us we’ll be here for at least one more night so we’re off to explore Downtown Anchorage The next day we were lucky enough to meet up with our friend Jen who we first met in montere California but we also stationed together in Hawaii okay as you can see we are having bed dinner in our other travels we were always having car snacks tonight we’re
Having bed snacks we are on our second day in Anchorage Alaska they said we were going to leave at 2:00 a.m. um in the middle of the night though uh we called and checked and they said just kidding the plane is still broken and we showed up there today at noon and they
Said just kidding plane’s still broken so now they’re saying tomorrow morning at 6:50 a.m. so we just came back to our hotel and um fortunately the Huskies were on yep got to watch Theus we watch the Huskies so anyway we’re just kind of trying to to roll with the punches and
Realizing that this is a free flight and this is just part of it you have to be super flexible you have to be willing to stay in a hotel spend a little money um on those things and hopefully your money that you’re spending on eating out and
Hotels doesn’t add up to what you would pay for a flight but seeing as how a flight to Vietnam is about $1,800 and we’re totally traveling budget like we’re we’re staying in you know a Rada it’s not fancy but the room is decent and it was like a
$53 deal on Expedia so if you’re not bougie which we are not no you can do it for budget so fingers crossed the taxi couldn’t bring us onto the base so we opted to walk from the gate it’s really a beautiful day for a Walk the flight to Korea still isn’t fixed after 2 days so we’re opting to catch a flight to yakota Japan by the looks of this empty terminal I’m going to say that our chances on this flight are pretty darn Good we finally arrived in Japan and after a quick detour to go through immigration a super helpful Airman was gracious enough to drop us off at the front gate that way we could walk to the train station which was only about a 10 to 15 minute walk we attempted to buy tickets with
Our credit card but quickly realized that the ticket machine only took cash after finding some cash we returned to the train station and got our tickets to Tokyo which was pretty easy to figure out [Applause] we decided to wait until we get to Vietnam to get a SIM card so Eddie is
Without internet but I am paining through our service provider for the next couple of days since it’s about an hour train ride to Tokyo I’m researching and booking our hotel for the night so we can stay near the train station after getting off the train we started walking to our hotel because it
Was supposed to only be about 10 minutes away after 45 minutes we finally arrived at our hotel or did we okay my turn to make a mistake I’m just going to blame it on being exhausted so we’ve been traveling for a long time so I got us a hotel tonight in
Tokyo and I was looking on the map and I wanted it right by the Tokyo train station and I literally picked one that was right by it and so then I booked it it was non-refundable and then when we when I put it in the map it was like far
Like 2 miles away and because we don’t know how to to use the bus system we said let’s just walk we just walk it yeah so we walked all the way to this hotel and when we went to check in they couldn’t find our reservation because well first we were pleasantly
Surprised this is a nice hotel yeah and we only paid like 80 bucks well come to find out there’s multiple hotels with the same name but they just have a different ending name and we’re at the wrong one and the one that we did book is right next to the train station where
We just walked from 2 miles ago so we are getting a taxi if we wouldn’t have made this mistake we wouldn’t have experienced this cool taxi got to look on the bright Side finally our Hotel and this is it tight quarters where’s a bathroom has a bedet after checking in we were starving so we found a little restaurant to order some Ramen that Eddie had been craving the ordering process was super cool we just chose the picture of what we wanted on the kiosk screen at our
Table and they brought the food out within Minutes good morning it is our one full day in Tokyo so we’re going to go see what kind of damage we can do the first order of business was to return to the train Station and ensure we knew how to catch the bus to Narita tomorrow morning since we wanted to cover a lot of ground in one day we decided to get a 24-hour pass which proved to be a great choice after some struggles not being able to figure out where and how to get
The pass we finally figured it out next up food we are definitely getting our F of ramen while we’re here finally it’s time to start exploring so I guess these vending machine stores are all the rage look at how many toyss there are gosh there are so many options
I ended up with a little Cincy Dog next up is the soo G Temple this Buddhist temple the oldest in Tokyo was completed in 645 and was built to honor Canon the god of Mercy [Applause] We love trying the local food so we’re just going to do what we do best eat okay this bun looks like it’s sugary on top and it’s full of vanilla ice cream num n top is crunchy the actual dough is sweet but not overly sweet so it’s really good
With the vanilla ice cream in There A little squish shrimp in there good All right we’re going to try these but we don’t know what they are pink bunny what does it taste like kind of jelly I don’t really have a flavor it’s a gummy I have no idea what that is he we googled it it’s a sweet rice dumpling I don’t know what’s on it
But that tastes way better when you have all of them at the same Time it’s a deep fried Fork fill deluscious goodness hopefully hot it has onions almost tastes like it has a gravy in there and it’s kind of sweet it’s really Good The Tokyo Sky Tree is a broadcasting and observation Tower off we go to shabuya Crossing This intersection stops vehicles in all directions to allow pedestrians to inundate the entire intersection it’s the world’s busiest pedestrian Crossing with as many as 3,000 people crossing at one time check out this cool hidden bookstore bar we Found we covered a lot of ground today and now it’s time to eat Again catching the bus to the airport this morning was such a nut roll we got there plenty early but the office wasn’t open and the bus driver only took cash which we didn’t have enough of to top it off we couldn’t find an ATM that was
Open either so a lot of stress and running around but finally found an ATM and caught the bus just in Time I guess we have to record the good with the bad so Vietnam gave us both Visas so we are approved however I guess my expiration date on the Visa doesn’t match my passport so although Vietnam says I can come in the airport says it doesn’t
Match up so we are struggling or Tracy is struggling to get a hold of Vietnam and see if something can happen in the next hour or so so we’ll see what goes on we have 30 minutes we have 30 minutes flight here we go we’re running T plane

Hi! We are Eddie and Traci and we’re ready for adventure! 🌎 During Eddie’s Army career of 35 years we got accustomed to not having much choice in where we lived, traveled, etc. However, after being stationed in Germany and traveling around Europe for 4 years we caught the travel bug big time! Now that Eddie is retired, we have a HUGE travel bucket list. We’re “mostly” empty nesters so we’re checking off one bucket list item at a time and are excited to share our adventures with you! I loved Akihabara! In the early '90s, it was a stereo equipment lover's paradise. It is SUCH a beautiful sight to see you two again…casting your fates to the wind! Vietnam will be so lovely to see!
