Overnight in World’s Most Luxurious Mountain Capsule

In the eastern part of the Mont Blanc range, right below the huge walls of Grandes Jorasses, lies an Eagle’s nest that welcomes alpinist and hikers. Bivacco Gervasutti. Some people describe it as the loneliest capsule in the world. But from my experience, it’s one of the most spacious

And luxurious cabins you can find in the mountains. So as an Italian mountain addict whose biggest passion is to climb remote peaks, explore the wildest corners of the Alps and spend the night outside in my sleeping bag with the unbeaten skill of looking for the most uncomfortable spots to lay on.

This cabin almost felt like a mirage in a desert of rocks and glaciers, and I had to check it out. All right, let’s go in that direction , autumn colors are starting to appear. after probably half an hour or more of walking on this moraine with no clue where the trail was.

Even if I was following a track on FATMAP. I’m on the trail! it’s a pretty steep trail. We are on the upper part of the valley and I can see the bivak! ready for the last part. Looks quite easy. There we go. Bivacco Gervasutti! it was fun. Let’s go inside. All right.

Shoes off. wow I am speechless. Look at the view! Incredible. I want to live here. I’m not used to this luxury. but let’s make a little tour of the bivak. This is, of course, the living room. We have all my stuff. This is the kitchen. Coffee machine So many pots and pans.

Way more than I have in my van actually! over here. There’s, wow, food, rice, pasta, a lot of gas tanks, cards. I have no one to play with, but doesn’t matter, this is a sort of computer with so many functions. This is like emergency call and stuff like that, radio.

And over here, there’s all the lighting buttons. Over here. There is another exit towards the glacier. Look at this. Wow. Solar panels. And over here, the missing part. The bedroom. There we go. 12 beds with so many blankets and pillows. Not bad. It’s pretty incredible.

I’ve never seen anything this Luxurious in the mountains. Probably not even in mountain huts. dinner time! I completely forgot there’s a stove here, so I didn’t bring anything to warm up. This is super good. Olives tomatoes, capperi.. not sure about the name in English. So many stars. It’s time to sleep.

Living light off good night. It’s time for coffee! sun is here, sun is coming! Oh, there’s no coffee! Let’s make some tea. river crossing. Home sweet home. time for lunch. cheers! All right, so that’s the end of this video I really hope you enjoyed. First of all, if you want to know more

About this bivouac and this kind of bivouacs, because you will find out this is not the only one built like that, but there are a few others spread around Europe. You can check out the links in the description with some resources. It’s quite an interesting topic.

Secondly, I’m very sorry for the delay in posting this video. I’ve been to this bivouac in October, so it took me a while to to edit this adventure. I had quite some stuff to do, and especially in the last month, I’ve been working

On some changes on the van, so I tried to combine editing videos with working on the van, which always takes such a long time. One of the things that I did is something I’m super proud of and it’s a door. I built the door that connects the driving area with the living space.

It’s something that I wanted to do for such a long time and I never really had the time. So now I did it. I’m super excited for it and I can’t wait to hit the road again and it will be in just a few days.

Hey! Welcome to a new adventure!
In this adventure, shot back in October, I wanted to check out one of the most iconic cabins in the Alps, Bivacco Gervasutti. Built in 2011, it’s definitely the most spacious and luxurious bivak I have ever visited in the mountains! with a 12 bed dormitory, a huge living space with even an induction cooktop and a computer with emergency call etc, I was really surprised by how functional this capsule is.

If you wanna know more about this bivak and others built the same way:

  1. As always, Bruno, a brilliant video. I don’t know where you’re based, but have you considered doing Bivacco Citta di Varese in Valle Andolla? It’s not a difficult trek, but the views are incredible. And the Via Ferrata from here to the Swiss border is only an hour away. You’d love it.

  2. I absolutely love these videos.

I lived in Trento for two years, and seeing these videos makes me very fondly remember my (at least) weekly mountain hikes while there 😭😊 it's a much more rare treat these days.

  3. Well done Bruno, another great video. It warmed my heart when you cleaned the place. What a gift to hikers that place is. Happy New Year and have a great time in the mountains. We return to the Dolomites again this year inspired by you. 👍👍👍

  4. My teacher asked me, "what would you like to do when you grow up"
And i said "I'll like to be like Bruno Pisani" . So thank you for being the best inspiration for a 17 year old boy from Reggio.
All love and rispect for yuo.

  5. Indeed crazily luxurious and neat.
Confusingly, on the Swiss map it seems completely surrounded by glaciers.
It seems that is just quite an old state of the ice. These rocks seem to have emerged from the ice.

  6. Ciao Bruno. Sempre super video e super contenuti. Che periodo consigli per raggiungere questo bivacco? Ma sopratutto come fai a trovarli sempre vuoti così 🤩
