Ostuni, Puglia, What to see in the White City. Ep. 4

E Pretty [Applause]

Ostuni, the white city, is an unmissable destination if you are visiting Puglia. Located between the Itria valley and Salento, Ostuni stands on 2 hills a short distance from the Adriatic Sea. It’s called White City because of its whitewashed houses which make it almost dazzling during the day. The streets, alleys, small hidden squares become so bright in the sunlight that you won’t be able to do without dark glasses. Furthermore, from its terraces the view extends over the olive groves below to the blue of the Adriatic Sea which frames the horizon.
The historic center of Ostuni, with its typical medieval layout, is all to be discovered starting from the Aragonese walls that surround the city, climbing up avenues and stairways, passing the tower of Sant’Oronzo and continuing through galleries and secret passages up to the top where the beautiful cathedral of Ostuni. Getting lost among its churches, noble palaces and white houses clinging to the hillsides is an almost dreamlike experience that repays the effort and the heat, which is inevitable in summer. Not bad, because the nearby coast is certainly one of the most beautiful in all of Puglia, boasting the Blue Flag and the 5 Legambiente sails.
