München (Munich) is the capital of Bavaria, which lies in the foothills of the Alps on the river Isar, and with 1.5 million inhabitants it is the third largest city in Germany. An important industrial, transport, financial and cultural agglomeration with many universities and churches, it is the seat of the archbishop and a number of museums and galleries.
