CLIMBING Germany’s most famous cathedral? What you need to know about climbing Cologne cathedral!
Hello there and very warm welcome to a brand new video while I get ready for our exciting outing today we are heading together to Cologne Cathedral and I bet you didn’t know this about the Cologne Cathedral that you can actually climb up one of the towers and have an amazing
View over the whole city it’s really cold today in Germany it’s -7° also the trains are on strike so let’s hope that we get there but provided we do get there I’m going to be showing you guys how to climb up the Cologne Cathedral and everything you need to know about it
I’ve never done this experience before I’m a little bit worried cuz it’s going to be really cold at the top of the tower but I’m just layering up now I need to leave in about 5 to 10 minutes to grab the bus then we’re going to jump
On the train it’s a strike day let’s hope we get there and by the way if you’re new here my name is James I am from the UK but I’m currently studying in Germany so I tell you all about how that’s going and I’m also showing you
Guys some cool Co things to do around here so make sure to leave a subscribe on my channel and let’s get going let’s head to Cologne hey everyone and I am now on my way to the cathedral here in Cologne it’s just in front of me and
We’re going to walk down and then we’re going to go and climb the cathedral I had a little bit of stress on the way here and it was kind of my fault because since I’ve moved here I’ve been having issues with my SIM card and I’ve been
Using a UK Sim at one point I swapped onto a German Sim and then I decided that I’m going to swap back onto a UK Sim and of course my UK Sim is no longer working here again now which I do understand is kind of my own fault but
It’s just been a bit of a stressful experience I’m Not Crying by the way guys it is just really cold today and it’s also quite windy which is why I’m just standing under a little shelter here but yeah we’re going to go and climb up the uh cathedral in a second
And I’m going to take you guys with me and then hopefully in the next few days I can sort out my SIM card and then it’s all going to be good and then I won’t have to worry anymore I managed to connect to the Wi-Fi here at the station
Though but that was quite a little stressful experience anyway I’m going to show you guys the cathedral now because I haven’t shown it to you yet if you watch another video of mine where I show you the best five places to visit in k then you will know what the cathedral
Looks like but I’m going to show it to you guys again now so enjoy and then we’re going to go and collect I’m the cathedral together and there you can see the cathedral behind me look how beautiful it’s looking in this gold and sunlight there is a lot of noise around
Here as there’s construction Works going on but just look how beautiful the cathedral is I think there’s over 500 steps to climb up to the top of the tower so let’s go give it a go I’m a little bit stressed because I couldn’t get into the tower but you’ll be pleased
To know we’re finally climbing the tower we’re in a narrow spiral staircase and we’re heading up to the top but I will tell you why it was stressful was because I had a ruck sack with me and since yesterday due to previous potential Terror attacks Before Christmas they’ve strengthen the rules
About getting in so you’re not allowed to take any bags with you anymore so I had to go to the train station and leave my bag there um the person at the cash desk did get a bit stressed and I got a bit stressed um which led to a bit of an
Argument and I just almost had a bit of a breakdown but we’re climbing now so I’m going to show you I’m really looking forward to getting to the top it’s a long way up it’s a long spiral staircase I’ve just done the first few Spirals and
We’re just going to keep on going now for those of you interested too you can see this is what the spiral staircase looks like it looks all the same the hallway up it’s just a stone spiral staircase uh with little windows and little lanterns in here as well
I a little bit out breath cuz it is tiring climbing up and it does get a little bit mon monotonous as well climbing up in a spiral but let’s keep going so we can enjoy the amazing views when we get to the Top and as you could see briefly there I’ve just arrived in the bell tower here in the cathedral it’s so beautiful and when the bell strike on the hour it gets so loud as well I’m over 50 m in height now and I’m going to head up to the top
Floor where we’re going to see a view out over the city of col so let’s go and have a look I’ve got one last flight of steps here in front of me to conquer and then we’re going to reach the top it’s still a little way to go but let’s give
It a try so we’ve made it to the top I’m not going to lie to you I found it quite anxiety and juicing going up all of those stairs over 500 steps and we’re really high I’m going to write the exact height on the screen for you guys so you
Know EX exactly how high up you are going here at the corner dorm um and the views are absolutely amazing it’s so bright today so it’s actually really hard to see I thought it would be perfect conditions for this but it’s actually almost too bright there’s no
Clouds in the sky it’s one of the brightest days in a long time given it’s also the middle of winter but the views are amazing so please sit back relax and enjoy some of my shots from the top here at the corner dorm is what goes up must come down and I
Climbed all the way to the top which means I’ve now got to climb all the way back down again I’ll see you guys once I reach the bottom of this huge spiral staircase here in the corad dorm so I’m now back after a crazy and tiring day in
Corn and I just wanted to tell you guys the most important things that you actually need to know when you’re planning a trip to go and climb the torm so the tower at the colador Cologne Cathedral so what’s really important is first of all I did mention it earlier in the video is
That you don’t bring any bags with you um if you do have a bag you can leave this in the station it costs €3 for 2 hours or €6 for 24 hours and you can actually fit multiple bags into a locker um I do find this price quite expensive
So if you are staying in a hotel nearby or something just leave your bags in the hotel and take what you need in your pockets camera phone Etc ET um photography and filming is allowed at the top obviously um if you need a big camera in a bag then that’s not going to
Be allowed through but just for sort of personal use or vlogging like this and there’s absolutely no problem with photography and filming um it’s over 500 steps to the top so it’s a long way up to the 97 M High viewing platform it’s really an amazing experience I can
Really highly recommend it to you guys and it’s really worth it entry is €6 or uh €3 with a discount so this is for students or if you have a disability then you do get a discount on there there are only steps there is no lift
Etc so if you’re not able to climb the steps you unfortunately aren’t able to take part in this experience as this is a really old historical Gothic Cathedral um so there aren’t any way or they wouldn’t uh really Implement modern technology into it I really do recommend
The experience if you’re in Cologne this is one of the absolute highlights of cologne if you are planning a longer trip to Cologne a weekend Etc then do make sure to check out my other video which is all about the five best things to do in Cologne and there you can get
