Is Northern Spain worth visiting? 🇪🇸 (Roadtrip from Pyrenees to the Atlantic Coast)

After our summer break in Germany, we actually chilled a lot, now we’re back on the road, and after around 20 hours drive, we finally arrived! Welcome to the Pyrenees! After spending the summer in Germany, we had one week off, so we decided to see something of the northern coast of Spain.

The Pyrenees were not exactly on the way, but we saw that there was at least 2 days of good weather, and we took the detour, just to enjoy a little bit the mountains. We arrived pretty late to the Pyrenees, and we needed to look for a camping spot for the night.

There was one directly next to the river, and it was so beautiful. On the next day, we got ready to do a hike in the National Park. In the next two days, we’re going to explore the national park of Ordesa and Monte Perdido,

And we’re going to take you with us, to explore this beautiful National Park! Ordesa and Monte Perdido is one of the many national parks of Spain, it’s located in the autonomous community of Aragon. It’s just at the border between Spain  and France, and I would suggest you to come with a car,

It’s the easiest option to move around. You could easily spend days here, we are here only for 2 days, because supposedly the storm is coming soon, that’s why we couldn’t stay longer. When you think of Spain you usually think  about beaches, the sea, about hot weather.

But have you ever thought of the Northern Spain? In the north of Spain you have forests, you have Rivers, you have mountains, you have amazing food as well. So it definitely makes sense to come here and enjoy this beautiful nature of this National Park of the Pyrenees.

There are plenty of hikes in the National Park, although we only did two of them, because we were short on time. Some of them are pretty challenging, while some of them are pretty easy to do. There are hikes for all kind of Fitness levels. When we stopped by this beautiful place,

We thought that this is the perfect place to have lunch. We filled our water bottle that has a filter integrated, that we usually also take to most of our trips, so that we can get fresh water supply during our hikes. Wow! (in Spanish) Come here! Super cold what it comes out of here, I don’t know…

Wuaah! Hahaha 🙂 Yeah, I don’t know if you can see  the the fog coming out… It’s really cold! At the end of this hike, we arrived at a beautiful campsite just beside the river. It has a nice cafĂŠ and restaurant, where you can enjoy your time there just chilling with your friends,

And enjoy the mountain views. Since it was a Sunday afternoon, it was full with locals and tourists. In the High season, you’re only allowed to go there by bus, not by your own car. When we arrived back to our camping spot, we took advantage of the super nice and crystal clear river water,

And filled up our shower. Ooooh it was cold! It was really cold! Hahaha :3 The next morning, we went up to a Viewpoint to enjoy our last coffee on those beautiful mountains. And now we want to explore the  surroundings, and some villages in the north of Spain.

As a fun fact, this Village is actually part of the Way of St James, so if you’re thinking about doing the Way of St James, the French part, well you start in France and then you go to Santiago, you would cross through this Village. Actually we came here already yesterday,

We are in the beautiful town of Jaca, and this is an old castle that you can see here, and sometimes you can see special animals around here, and we didn’t know, so we were not looking for them. But a friend of us told us that “Hey, have you seen these animals?”

And we’re like “no” So therefore we came back this morning, and now we’re going to look for these animals, let’s see if we can find them! So as you can see, apparently there are deers living here. Deer or deers? Well, the English speaker can correct me if you want to.

Apparently they also give them food and everything, so for me it looks like they live there most of the year. I I’m not sure if this is a truth, but it looks like they live here, and they even have their babies here, because some of them are very small. 🙂

Jaca is situated in the state of Aragon, and it’s known for its well preserved medieval quarter, that consists of the Citadel that you could just see, and a cathedral. Unfortunately it started to rain, and we didn’t know what exactly we could be doing, so we got the tip of a friend of ours,

To visit a special place a little bit further in the north, and very close to Jaca. Now we are in the beautiful town of Canfranc. I don’t know how you pronounce this in English, but it is basically the last village that is before crossing into France, and they have built this amazing train station,

Which is now actually a hotel. The town itself doesn’t have a lot to do or  to see, but I think just to see the train station and the hotel next to it, is just incredible with the surroundings of the mountains, and today is not a perfect sunny day,

As you might expect in the mountains, there’s lots of clouds everywhere, but it makes it even more mystical. And we also saw two people that came by train, because it is still a current train station, that are going to do the Way of St James. So apparently some from France are starting it here right now,

Or are continuing it and took the train. Here we had some nice food and explored the surrounding areas, and then,  we move down to the West. We actually wanted to go a little  bit further, but the storm came faster than we thought.

So we had to look for a place where we could park, cuddle in and get warm, and then we had to look for a camping spot for tonight. Foca singing a beautiful song waiting for food. :3 Manmanchi! The next morning the storm has passed, and the sky was clear,

And we arrived our next province of this trip: Navarra. And what a better way to start a day, than with a hike and beautiful views? Foz de Lumbier is a protected area for birds, and that’s why we couldn’t fly our drone. But it was spectacular to see so many birds flying around there.

Always a black sheep, and everyone who’s a black sheep in the family, you should be proud of it! Because there’s always one! Meeehh! As usual, the hike was a bit harder than  I expected, and we got lost at the beginning like five times. But at the end it was worth  the pain,

Because the view not top were pretty epic! In this area we have seen huge vultures, that were flying above our heads. And it really reminded us a little bit of Peru, when we hiked in the Colca Canyon. Where you could observe Condors flying just a few meters away from you. After the hike,

And after some good food, we wanted to escape from the burning sun. That’s why we went to a forest area, which is the source of the river Urederra. Which in Spanish is called Nacedero del Urederra. There is a parking lot where you also  have to register, the parking lot costs 5 euros per car,

But the hike is for free. One of the reasons why we really love Northern Spain is because you can find sources of water almost everywhere, And our last stop of this video is the beautiful city of Santander in the region of Cantabria, which is already located on the Atlantic coast of Spain.

After exploring the city of course we go  really hungry, so we wanted to find a place where we can get the famous “Pintxos”, and it is a must try if you come to the north of Spain. Actually they are similar to Tapas, slices of bread with all kind of toppings, usually meat, seafood, or tortilla.

We started with a round of four, but Foca ate so fast that I couldn’t even film  properly. They were really really good! So we have come to the end of this video, if you liked it so far, please subscribe to our Channel, and see you in the next time! Byebye! 🙂
