Florenz in Italien – Kunst und Kultur in der Hauptstadt der Toskana | ARD Reisen
. Oh, Arno. I think I’m in Love. The Florentines used to have money. If all this is marble… Donatello, Michelangelo, da Vinci, Caravaggio and everyone else. My own team of stylists. I’m excited to see what happens. So, that was the starter. Where do you get greeted by such a beautiful man like Michelangelo’s David? Welcome to Florence, the city where the spirit of the Renaissance flows from every street. Here you can find art and culture wherever you walk or stand. I don’t even know where to start. I would say let’s first get an overview
Of all the important museums and palaces. (off:) But first a photo of David. When I was studying art history, I learned to look at my hand. The hand is the best part. The hand! (Photo clicking, bubbling noise) And now into the fray. Everyone else is already there too. (off:) I’m afraid I would need at least a week just to see the famous Medici’s palazzi . I wanted to go there too. Not to mention what feels like 200 churches full of art. This is usually the first port of call, the Uffizi. All well-known artists are represented here, Michelangelo, Donatello, da Vinci, Caravaggio and whatever they are called. This is affordable for you. Not with these two here. Film recordings have become priceless here. We’ll save ourselves the thousands of euros and instead show you a Florence you didn’t know before through the back door. There’s art everywhere, we can fill ten shows with it. Come with me. (off:) Kitsch is the echo of art, I once read. If that is true, then nowhere is the reverberation of the old masters greater than in Florence. Every pavement painter is a Michel or Angelo. I need guidance. Ahh, “Academia di Arte”, that’s where I want to go. There are a few such private art academies in Florence. Even if you only stay a few days, the visit is worth it. Ciao. – Ciao. Buongiorno. – Buongiorno. I think I’ve come to the right place. Um, can I find art here in Florence far away from the big museums? (Italian:) Yes, sure. We can organize a tour for you where you can also learn plein air painting, i.e. painting outdoors.
However, the best time for this is early in the morning, around seven. Mmm. (He finishes speaking in Italian.) Yes, great. It’ll be early, but we’ll arrange it. Buongiorno! – Buongiorno! Sorry, I’m a little late. No problem. Good thing you slept a little longer. But nice, a rickshaw, great. Let’s take a tour. (He says something in Italian.) Perfect. Ahh, you don’t have to walk there, that’s always nice. Here we go. (off:) Stefano didn’t promise too much. Florence looks completely different early in the morning. Really magical. And without the crowds in the alleys, you can see pictures of today’s artists everywhere. Even Florence’s most famous bridge, Ponte Vecchio, still dreams silently. My painting lesson now begins in front of the unusually lonely David. (English:) We are now coming to the center of the body. So. Mhm. We can first draw the head as a simple oval. Mmm. Is it right that David has perfect proportions?
Um… – I don’t think that’s true. His head is too big, right? His head is too big. It was made, um… (English:) The statue is designed to be viewed from below. – Ahh, okay. If the perspective is bottom-up, then the head must be larger than normal. Otherwise it would look too small.
Mmm, I see. So he’s not so perfect after all, hmm-hm. (off:) The perspective sign was also supposedly invented in Florence. Stefano tries really hard to convey some of this to me. At least he can do it. And I’m… still practicing. You see, we don’t need the Uffizi at all. We simply make the art we want to see ourselves. Mhm. And now comes the really exciting part. Lezione di nudo. – Nude drawing? Is that available here too? – Si. Okay. (off:) So then, get to work. The David by Simin Sadeghi. And pay special attention to your hand. The hand! (Italian:) So, let’s switch things up. Simin, it’s your turn as a nude model. I guess I have to make sacrifices for art. It was probably no different with the old Botticelli back then. That didn’t turn out so bad, did it? But not all students have to take off their clothes here, right? Do all of the people have to be naked, who wants to learn to draw? (English:) No, no, not at all. People come just to learn painting and drawing. Mmm. After you visit the Uffizi
, you want to learn to draw like da Vinci. -Yes. Or Botticelli. (Laughter) (English:) Of course it’s not that easy to learn in a week. But some try. – Yes. It’s actually a good idea if you’re on vacation here to take a drawing course for a day. I need something to wear.
I think I’ve come to the right place in Florence. Oh, they look good, really elegant. All this beautiful Italian fashion makes me feel a little underdressed. I think I need help. Let’s start with the shoes, shall we? You’ve come to the right place, we are three fashion students from Florence. Noé, Samira and Fiona study at Polimoda, one of the most important fashion schools in Italy. This is our school. – This is the main building. Wow. Impressive. Ah, the clothes hanging here. Hhh! Beautiful. And what do you learn here?
Yes, exactly, that’s what we learn in school. We have a big room where we learn how to knit on looms and stuff like that. Exactly. – And then what? And that means you can also see people on the streets in Florence? Well, that’s what you wear in everyday life
Because people are all so fashionable. – Yes, it’s more art. It’s more like what you see on the runway. Welcome in Florence, welcome at Polimoda. Thank you. So, how come that the people here are so super elegant and stylish? How can it be that the people here all have such great style and are so elegant? (English:) I think elegance is a very personal thing. Something that comes from within.
And that’s what makes it so fascinating to me. There is no simple rule to becoming elegant. Fashion offers the most visible form of self-expression. And of course, when we talk about Florence, the beauty of the city and its surroundings, the interplay of art, architecture, nature and lifestyle, that has always been the basis
For particularly high aesthetic standards. – Mmm. If you really want to be stylish, you have to have courage and be able to express your aesthetic ideas . So, you have to be brave to get a certain style. And I’ll try that now.
My three fashion designers first want to get some fabric for me. How beautiful here. (off:) In the oldest silk weaving mill in Italy. The looms have been rattling here for over 200 years. And most of it is still handmade. How complex these machines are, right? 1,000 threads, 1,000 weights, everything meshes together. I’ll try to understand it. I don’t know if I can do it. This is better than any leg press machine in the gym. Yes very. Is very… physical work. – Yes. And how long does it take to make half a meter or a meter? In four hours a day you make one meter. Really? – One meter. Luana worked in Germany for a long time, which is why she speaks German so well.
From today on I swear I will never throw away any fabric again. That’s a lot of work. How long does it take to understand this machine? Until you learn that? Well, I’ve been working here for ten years. And… I don’t know everything yet. – Ha… Ten years is little more than a moment for these machines. None of them are younger than 150. And Leonardo da Vinci is said to have personally designed this one. A proud legacy for today’s company boss. (Italian:) In the paintings in the museums you can see noble ladies from the Renaissance period
Dressed in fabrics made here in this factory. So a real Made in Italy, or rather Made in Florence, which we carry here from the Renaissance into the present and into the future. Because only our machines are able to produce these silk fabrics and these patterns exactly as they were back then. The aspiring fashion designers from Polimoda are allowed to let off steam in an old tobacco factory . In this case, on me. My own team of stylists. I’m excited to see what happens. Let’s put it this way. We’re all still practicing. One thing you have to do here in Florence is eat original Florentine steak. This is not for wimps. We’ll see why in a moment. Fabio Picchi does this best. By the way, he’s a TV chef, so everyone is excited. Ciao. (Laughter) Ciao. What a surprise to meet you here! Ciao. – Bene, bene, bene. Where else should you meet him but at the jetty stand? Steak stand. (Italian:) Look how wonderful. This is a steak from a cow that lived happily in the mountains and ate only grass. An incredible quality. Can we have a glass of Tuscan wine with it? Naturally. – Grace.
For us Florentines this is: wow! You could also eat this raw. These are the Italians, they simply love food. You notice that. That means I get good food now. (off:) Even though I just said something completely wrong. Fabio is Florentine, not Italian. (on:) How this already smells. I’m looking forward to the steak. Teatro. Theatre? I thought we’d cook now. Together with his wife, Fabio founded the Teatro del Sale, a variety theater where people can cook, eat, drink, sing, laugh and cry. And magic. Wow. (quietly:) Wow, cool. Such a huge piece of meat. (He says something in Italian.) Yes, very much. It doesn’t matter at all that the inside is still raw. Because the quality of the meat is so good, it is so incredibly tender. I don’t think I’ve ever eaten anything like this before. So, that was the starter. What’s for the main course? I read that this is the oldest ice cream parlor in Florence. It’s in every travel guide, but they’re supposed to have the best ice cream here. I’ll try it now. Ciao. – Ciao. Um, what do I take? What can you recommend to me? (Italian:) Definitely our Florentine cream. This is our specialty. And a little chocolate. Here you go. – Grace. Mhhh… Mhm. Yum! Oh God, this just keeps getting better. Leave me alone with this. The bell we hear here comes from Florence Cathedral. Of course you have to see it and be seen in front of it. And this has been the case for over 700 years. Fourth largest church in Europe, two centuries of construction, what feels like a million times every day. The bell tower designed by Giotto, famous painter and architect. Basically invented the Renaissance. And let’s go inside now. Don’t think that I want to confess my calorie sins. I’m here to get a little closer to heaven.
Alessandra Zanazzi is helping me with this, she’s already there at the front, she’s an astrophysicist. Ciao. – Ciao. Nice to meet you. – Nice to meet you. Should we go inside? -Yeah. Great. The cathedral is really huge, more precisely 153 meters long, 38 meters wide,
And from the floor to the dome it is another 90 meters. And the celestial researchers of the Renaissance took advantage of these 90 meters . (Devotive music) That is an astronomical instrument. – Mmm. For what? For what? It was used for … (English:) This is an astronomical instrument. This made it possible
To determine the exact time of the summer solstice. Is it a clock or a calendar? This is actually a calendar, but also a clock. Because it shows the exact moment of midday when the sun reaches its highest point. Once a year, on June 21st at twelve noon, the sun’s rays travel across the church floor through a hole in the dome. Exactly to this point. You can really set the clock there. The “Gnomon”, as the instrument is called, is located here under the dome of the cathedral
Because it is the tallest building. The higher, the more precise the measurement. The church stayed there. To be precise: The dome is 463 steps high. Wow. What a view. I have a good tip for you, it’s best to come early in the morning. There isn’t that much going on here because the Italians are still sleeping. And you see this fog over the hills of Tuscany. Of course you can’t come to Florence without paying homage to him, the greatest Italian poet of all time, Dante Alighieri. Why the biggest? Because he wrote his Divine Comedy over 700 years ago in the very Italian that people still speak today. Exciting, right? He is said to have always sat and meditated on these stones, the great poet. That’s why the stone is also called “Sasso di Dante”, i.e. “Dante stone”. I have to say, I can’t even sit here for a minute. Is it uncomfortable, oh. Here in this little hidden church Dante met his beloved Beatrice and wrote her one love poem after another. The Italians know this by heart. It is said to bring good luck for lovers if you don’t send your love letters by post, but put them in this basket at the altar.
Don’t look, it’s secret. That brings misfortune. I wonder why the statue isn’t in the middle of the square. (Italian:) ‘Sorry. A lot of football is played here today. Because the Florentine football game was invented on this square 600 years ago . And since then… Well, you don’t win a championship with a poet in midfield .
Ciao. By the way, I’m Simin. -Marco. Hi. – Nice to meet you. Nice to meet you. So you’re from here? – Si. Then you definitely know where to drink good coffee. Possiamo andare al Four Seasons. -Four Seasons? Si. – Yes, sure, where else? Okay, here we go. The Four Seasons Hotel has at least seven to 18 stars. But above all that. A beautiful park full of funny sculptures. A real insider tip. And not nearly as crowded as the Uffizi. This is a great place to relax from the hustle and bustle of the city. And oh yes, the coffee is really great too. And another insider tip. This pleasure won’t be around again for a long time. “Renaioli” are the names of the gondolas and the gondoliers, especially here in Florence. Paolo is one of them. Paolo, I actually thought that only Venice had gondolas and gondoliers. (Italian:) Yes, you always think that the Arno is not used as a waterway.
Neither from tourists nor from us locals. Mmm. – But that’s not true. The Arno was always used by boats like this. Mmm. But what were the boats used for? So, they were real workhorses. Ours, for example, is over 100 years old. And it was used to get sand, “Rena” in Italian,
From the riverbed. The people who did this were called Renaioli. Their work made the construction of the city possible. So we’re back at the Uffizi, which wouldn’t exist without the sand boatmen from the Arno. Sometimes the way out the back door is n’t all that uninteresting. The Renaioli were of course all poor day laborers. But life under the bridge, says Paolo, could sometimes be really worthwhile.
It always comes down to the bridge. During the great flood of 1966, the Arno flooded all the goldsmiths’ houses on the Ponte Vecchio. And one of the Renaioli, a certain Tuffetto, got permission to keep all the gold he would find at the bottom of the Arno. Then we drive back to Ponte Vecchio
For L’Oro dell’Arno. Maybe something will fall down and then we can have a nice evening. That’s it for our shipment from Florence. I hope you enjoyed the hidden sides of Florence. Don’t tell the other cities, but this city made it into my top three straight away.
I just like it. Art and culture, everything is so old. I just really like it. I hope you too. Come here. I say Arrivederci and go a little further with Paolo here. Ciao. SWR 2022

Eine sehr schönes Video! Ich selbst war schon mind. 15al dort.
