Sapporo, Hokkaido: We are here | Japan Travel Vlog

Good morning! It’s very peaceful in Otaru as always . Unfortunately, today is the day to leave Otaru and head to Sapporo. Luckily, we got the seats! It takes about 30 minutes from Otaru to Sapporo. Sapporo But… the real journey starts from now… ㅜㅜ

Firstly, I thought sapporo Station is incredibly huge. I didn’t even notice when I visited last time But maybe it feels larger because Otaru Station is so small? First, we decided to take the subway to drop off our luggage at the hotel. (But it was a big mistake…) Still full of energy, Niina-chan

The closest station to the hotel is 3 stops from Sapporo Station. One noticeable difference after moving from Otaru Station to Sapporo Station is that there are a lot more people. It’s inevitable since Otaru has a population of about 100,000, while Sapporo has about 1.95 million, almost 20 times more.

As usual, the subway in Japan is very quiet and peaceful . Passing through Sapporo’s downtown “Susukino”, then Nakajima park. That’s where our hotel is located. It takes about 8 minutes from Sapporo Station to Nakajima Park. But Niina is already tired haha Finally, we arrived. No… Actually, this is where it begins… Running,

Dragging, Dragging again, Finally, the hotel is here !! For the people who are visiting in winter, it’s recommended to take a taxi to the hotel for mental well-being. We’re currently dropping off our luggage. And when I asked if they accept deliveries ordered online, they said yes.

As soon as we dropped off our luggage, we’re going for lunch! This is Nakajima Park. I don’t know what that is, but something was sprinkled behind the trees. Do you know what that is..? And right next station is Susukino! Susukino is the largest downtown area in Sapporo.

You can even see the famous Nikka advertisement board. It’s more impressive after seeing the “First Love” (Japanese drama which is filmed in Hokkaido ) First, cross the street towards the direction of the Nikka sign. (I took the wrong exit;;)

And here we are! Sapporo New ramen Yokochoco (Even though Ramen Yokochoco is the original, we ended up here somehow.) Then, I asked a local who happened to come out of the building which place has the best taste, hehe. He recommended “Tsubasa,” so we decided to eat at Tsubasa too.

Ramen Yokochoco (since 1951) has 17 ramen shops, and Sapporo New ramen Yokochoco (since 1978) has 4 ramen shops. The ramen shop located furthest inside is “Tsubasa.”

What caught my eye from the entrance were pictures of customers who had been here for years. (There were writings alongside commemorative photos saying it was delicious.) I asked which one is the most popular, and as expected, it was Miso Ramen (You can choose from three soups: miso, soy sauce, and salt.)

By the way, they answered miso within 0.1 seconds when I asked, hehe. And we ordered the special menu, half and half. (What’s half and half? The answer will be revealed in a minute.)

I’ve noticed that many ramen shop owners often work alone, but this is the first time I’ve seen two experienced professionals collaborating together Moreover, look at the autographs from celebrities It continues endlessly, haha Autographs are even overlapped because there’s no room. Even though it’s a late lunch, I’m really looking forward to it.

I’m curious how many years these two have been working here. (I’ll ask when I visit next time.) Oh, finally…! Miso ramen!! And half and half!! The special menu is half-sized miso ramen and half-sized salmon roe rice bowl!! Wow… the color of the salmon roe is really beautiful. Niina’s first spoon.

Niina: It tastes different from the miso ramen she has had so far, but it’s delicious. And Niina’s favorite, salmon roe!! Niina says this menu is a dream menu 🙂 Because she likes ramen and salmon roe.

For me, it was the most delicious miso ramen I’ve had so far. I definitely intend to come back next time ! I asked why they started the half and half menu, and they said it was the idea of the ramen shop owner.(oh I thought one of them is owner lol)

It’s quite old restaurant but it’s a very clean place with neatly arranged tables. And the taste, of course, and kindness are felt. I’ll definitely come again~~! When I came out, I realized that the Tsubasa sign was hanging right above the Shin Ramen Yokocho sign. Welcome to Sapporo Gift Shop YokoSo.

This place specializes in Japanese chopsticks. You can engrave characters on chopsticks for free. I didn’t know there were so many types of chopsticks until I came here. They even sell chopsticks for eating soba and ramen separately. (I’m not sure what the difference is…)

Some expensive chopsticks cost more than 20 USD per pair. Of course, they also sell cheap chopsticks for less than 7 USD per pair. After careful consideration, we chose our chopsticks! But now we need to decide what characters to engrave on them lol

You can use a mix of English and Japanese or even include numbers. (I’m not sure if they support other languages.) You can even engrave different characters on each chopstick. (You can also choose the font style.) We decided to engrave our names in katakana. You can watch the engraving process in real-time.

Just like this! And this is the character Niina drew herself. (We prepared an illustrator file in advance.) Got it ! Our unique chopstick holder! (It might be good as a decoration even without chopsticks.) It’s too cool to use !! Haha

Niina can draw, so we prepared a file in advance, but usually, you can choose a design displayed on the wall. The prices are 550 yen for a box with one pair of chopsticks, 660 yen for two pairs, 770 yen for three pairs, and 880 yen for five pairs.

Now, shall we head to the next destination? The next destination is Miyanozawa. We don’t have much time… Let’s hurry. We’ve arrived. Niina starts running haha Where could this be…? I don’t know where it is, but it’s definitely a place Niina likes

This is Shiroi Koibito Park, a famous tourist spot in Sapporo. (Since 1995) Every hour on the dot, Shiroi Koibito Park’s decorations move with music. Shiroi Koibito Park is a park created by Shiroi Koibito, a famous dessert company in Sapporo.

Inside the building, you can see Shiroi Koibito cookies being made, take a tour, and even try making your own cookies. We wanted to tour, but we arrived too late, so we decided to explore outside slowly. (Cafes and tours last entree at 4:30 PM, and they close at 5 PM)

It feels like a fairy tale, and I am sure kids would love this place. That might be why there were many families with children. There’s even a house made of cookies ㅎㅎ When we entered the bus, there were quite a few people.

From the building on the left, they sell simple drinks, ice cream, and corn soup. Corn soup delivery ~! The scenery from inside the bus feels like this. Niina-chan seems to have found something!! There’s a small tearoom ! Niina-chan has already taken a seat haha Let’s go inside the building through the beautiful lights.

The first thing you see inside is the Shiroi Koibito souvenir shop. Going up another floor, there’s a cafe, but it’s already closed by 4:30 PM… ( last order at 4:30 PM) And look who we found !! It’s the mouth of truth I saw in Roman Holiday.

Since we can’t go to Italy, let’s experience it here. Niina-chan is funny ! lol If we had come a bit earlier, there would have been more places to explore. (Tours, cookie making, cafes with a view of the park, etc.) It’s already five o’clock. The atmosphere becomes more charming in the evening.

But they close at 5 PM… ㅜㅜ Sushi train ” Toriton” Before visiting Hokkaido, I asked my Japanese friend, and he recommended this restaurant ! First, we took a number after entering.

We wanted to sit at a table, but it takes a long time to wait, so we chose counter seats (waited about 30 minutes). As usual, we ordered all the sushi we wanted at once 🙂 And also a glass of draft beer! Don’t forget your tea !

Wow… look at this ! It’s shiny ! This salmon… I was really surprised. It was the most delicious salmon I’ve ever tasted… And Japanese miso soup. Usually, I don’t expect much from sushi train, but maybe because Hokkaido is known for seafood, it was really delicious.

The price range was slightly higher than typical sushi train restaurants, but the taste was more than worth the value. Niina-chan praised the taste of these salmon roe, saying they were on a different level compared to any she had tried before. 😄 And this ice cream made from Hokkaido milk…!!

It’s like a gelato with a rich milk flavor and a perfect level of sweetness. Make sure to try it ! you won’t regret it! 😋 The total cost for the two of us enjoying the meal was approximately 70 USD For those visiting Sapporo, I highly recommend Toriton!!

We’ve arrived at the hotel. Coin-operated laundry and vending machines are conveniently located on my floor. (However, it’s not ideal if other guests make loud noises.) Fortunately, our room is at the far end. Although it’s an old hotel, it has been remodelled and is reasonably clean.

The price, including breakfast, was around 5,000 yen. ( around 35 USD ) The bed is a semi-double size. Not far from the downtown, and with these conditions including breakfast, it seems reasonably priced. ^^ Are you ready?

  1. Hi ! I'm going to Sapporo soon (11 Jan 2024 :D) I want to ride the buses and trains there too.. What IC card are you using and where did you get them? I researched online and was recommended to get Sapica from their local train stations..
