Hollywood’s Secrets in the Arab Desert: A Tale from Hidden# Ouarzazate
Hello beautiful people I hope this video finds you well two more days in Marrakech and this is my last Marrakech video as a travel agent I document my trip in a video to share with you this video
May run a little longer than I expected but it will be interesting let’s take a journey together through the lens of my camera I’m here in this restaurant it’s a very nice restaurant restaurant um I thought I’m going to have my dinner here but due to the language barrier
Uh it didn’t work out for me the waiter asked me to wait in his signed language because he don’t speak English so I thought he went to find someone who speak English and I was waiting but he never
Returned I don’t think I’m going to eat here it’s a very tourist area this should be speaking at at least are understand customers basic you know I asked him that this Kebab comes with a bread
Or rice he was not able to answer he just keep going upstairs and looking for someone to help him but you know I don’t have a time for it so I got out I’m going to look for another restaurant
Okay so I found this restaurant um it has a classy appearance and offer mostly French and Moroccan Cuisine uh speaking French is more convenient here in Morocco than English I don’t speak French neither Arabic so sometime communication can be challenging just this is a nice restaurant and
Everybody speak English and French and Arabic which is good that’s the way it’s supposed to be and that’s why they have a lot of customer customers here it’s very important if you have a restaurant in a tourist area you must have little bit bilingual people otherwise you’re not going to
Make business it’s just common sense there’s lots of French restaurant in Morocco because French was colonized Morocco so French language French food French newspaper French television uh Channel everything is here you feel like almost you are in a France I have been on the road over over a
Month and I think it’s a time to bite a burger I really miss hamburger let’s order one Juicy Hamburger this fry is good in Morocco 80% is a French tourist you know you go to Mexico 90%
Is American Tourist this is a quite a big uh cheeseburger this is Too Tall How can I I put it in my mouth it’s too big press it if I can bite it the beef is 100% by the way this
Burger this cheeseburger is a Halal you know Islamic country they like Halal meat which is means uh they treat the animal respectful slaughtering place you know they don’t abuse they have a method of slaughtering animals and that method called Halal so this is a halal meat
Halal [Music] hamburger some places I seen this sign in Morocco about pollution how much energy is producing and how much emission CO2 in the air uh they’re available for public which is good oh that’s good thing so you know how much carbon in the air now how much uh pollution going on
And what is the energy they spending that’s that’s very good uh information good morning today I will take you to a Ouarzazate Ouarzazate which is approximately little over 3 hours and a half drive from mores I’m on my way to meet my tour guide in a meeting point sometime this tour
Operator they pick you up in the Riyad or in the hotel sometime they don’t have a service to pick up service I mean so you have to go nearest meeting point and that is what I’m
Doing right now I noticed something that uh when there are traffic lights car stops U you know in a red light but some motorcycle they don’t today the crosswalk is clear and disciplined no vehicle are stopping on the crosswalk the crosswalk is very open just the way it should
[Music] be Ouarzazate is a city with a rich history that stretches back from centuries Ouarzazate nickname the door of the desert over time it has witnessed changes in power dynamics trade routes and cultural influences you may come across some stunning ruins during your travels and sometimes you
May get a feelings of Deja vu yes you’re right you may have seen these places like portraits or ruins where many movies have been [Music] filmed this is Ait Ben Haddou it’s a one of the film location and this is very popular location due to its striking
Scenery now this is atlas Studio which is not so far away from Ait Ben Haddou and this is also located in Ouarzazate Atlas studio is a kind of like a universal studios or Paramount Pictures that kind of situation here lots of movie has been shot
Not only Hollywood but from the other countries around the world and here is the list of some [Music] movies when Hollywood produces big budget movies like Mommy or Gladiator they require a large number of horses fortunately this region of Morocco has plenty of
[Music] them this is a cinema Museum I heard there are lots of famous movie Set inside so let’s go inside and find out what is going [Music] on [Music] this plane was used in the movie called Sahara ala Alibaba Alibaba Alibaba 40 Thieves’ ah Alibaba if you know about the Alibaba and 40
Thieves as a Arabian Knights story this was shooted here in this cave here go you remember I I saw this movie when I was a kid there was a mini Alibaba movie was made supposed to be have a gate with the stone and
You say sim sim open and they open the door and that was like a magic Open [Music] the [Music] I thought the Hills Have Eyes shooted in somewhere in Nevada in the mountain but it was shooted actually in Morocco wow I never knew that basically this is a movie set from the Hollywood movie production Moroccan movie they shooted here a lot
Of historical biblical movie here the Hollywood movie The Solomon was shooted here and Joseph was there and the Joseph I never heard about this [Music] movie it is a jail prison Cale [Music] yeah the material is um really metal yeah this studio can be make many other movies
As well reusable you know sometime movie Set is made and then they break it after movie is finished the shooting is finished I mean but this one they kept it so people can come here and make another movie shooting another kind of story Here movie here it’s about Jesus last [Music] supper the Hollywood come all the way to Africa here it’s a thousands of miles away from United States and they make their big block movies filming here there’s a many reason of course they need the location the environment but beside that
Filming in Ouarzazate can be more cost effective compared to shooting in the Western countries the cost of production including labor materials and permits is often lower making it an attractive option for those filmmakers especially who working with tight budgets Maybe I can see it here I do
Not know which movie was shooted here probably something from Hollywood anyway there’s a lots of movie were shooted here anyway wow you know this is Studio their way to make it it’s look real huh which was a movie called Aladdin was shooted here too that is a Genie also Cleopatra movie was shooted here [Music] too was the first movie was Elizabeth Taylor I guess I think that is the one was shooted here I’m not sure but probably that’s the one wow and you see all those art Egyptian it’s not the original art of
[Music] course so Pharaon was uh a Pharoh was Egyptian king and he was a bad King I guess he killed a lot of people in slavery that’s why people say oh you are Faron it’s a kind of example metaphoric uh example to
Use Van Damme okay Omar Sharif Omar Sharif yeah Omar Sharif is Egyptian Nicholas Cage yeah Nicholas Cage yeah Chan BR Charles Bronson yeah Robert Deo Robert De Niro yes my [Music] favorite they have been using since 1950s or sixties so there’s a different camera
From the old camera to the new camera for the movie shooting that’s totally amazing these are the costume for the use for the movie Like Gladiator Cleopatra old movie shooting used to be use a film Real film a negative film nowadays they use digital so it’s big difference right
So lots of movie was shooted here including Alexander was shoot it here too wow no wonder why a lot of people come in Morocco because it’s a famous place right not only for movie but the people are nice food is great and it’s a fantastic country yeah your next visit make sure
You come to Morocco [Music] yeah uh before I heading to my Riyad I found this local Kabab joint and try some mixed kebabs believe it or not all this together you’re looking at is only $5 dinner time I brought my hot sauce from California because I
Know it’s very hard to find hot sauce when you’re in Europe or any other country so I’m going to use this a little bit M it’s good let’s try the chicken one M I don’t know what is this liver lamb wow delicious pasta is
Cold the rice M the rice is cold too I think that’s the way they serve here good morning today is my last day in Marrakech so I am heading to the city’s largest mall before my flight tonight
Let’s go if you come in this Medina this Kutubiyya Mosque mosque area in the evening you’re going to see thousands of people this is the main square that people come from different city they want to spend their time Kutubiyya Mosque is a a landmark of Marrakech Oldtown Mish style and the architectural design
Not only in Morocco you can go to Andalusia south of Spain example Granada Sevilla similar kind of architectural design because Mish ruled Spain over 8 or 900 years so the culture they left behind [Music] sugar cane let’s try sugar [Music] cane
What’s your name your name huh your name Maok Sam welcome no problem sugar cane is you know where the sugar come from of course and can have a juice fresh obviously it’s in a sugar in there but
It’s not processed yet so still is a good it’s not really bad and it should be [Music] sweet oh yeah very sweet very natural you know when I was a kid I used to drink this stuff this is a good stuff
Very very sweet maybe healthy I don’t know the Menara Mall was only 150 meters from the corner but I didn’t know I thought it was quite a far the funny thing is I asked the taxi to bring me to the
Menara Mall and he could have told me that the mall was just around the corner a short walk and a taxi wasn’t necessary instead I held a taxi and within a minute we arrived on the mall the biggest
Inconvenience was that my phone data didn’t work otherwise I could have this mall via my [Music] GPS and you can come here and buy any gift any present is a Moroccan style all kind of stuff
Unbelievable yeah so if you come to Marrakech you come to Al Menara Mall second floor you come to this store and you can buy all the quality stuff it’s not from the street you know it’s a good [Music] quality I have never seen so many unusual
Spices and ingredients in this shop this is [Music] incredible it smells so good M spices perfume all kind of things [Music] [Music] Morocco is one of the country just like Egypt has so many natural way soap and shampoo and spices the tea the heart everything you can find here this
Is for lip coloring like a lipstick can you imagine I never seen such a thing like in my life I see lipstick in a mall but this is colored the lips [Music] wow [Music] Moroccan people their main language is Arabic but their second major language is
A French if you are in most of the Morocco everybody almost everybody know how to speak French if you’re in Tangier area which is across from Spain and Gibraltar then they speak English Arabic French and Spanish most Moroccan know how to speak Spanish because of their culture with Spain and [Applause] [Music]
Europe and they have a ice skating here nice oh kids can have a lot of fun here [Music] this Supermarket is owned by French company and if you go anywhere in Morocco you’ll find this supermarket in every corner do you know Moroccan Muslims and Jews avoid consuming
Pork which is considered Haram in Islam Haram is in Arabic words that means for forbidden or prohibited Morocco is a Muslim country Islamic there’s a many Muslim country in the world you cannot buy pork because it’s a Haram however because this Supermarket is a French Carrefour
I think called Carrefour and here you can buy pork pork ham pork sausage um so it just tells you the how Morocco is so open mind they let you sell pork even you know the Muslims don’t
Eat pork so that’s um that’s a good thing I mean why has to be everybody need to sacrifice Christian people the people who eat pork they want to eat pork so let them to have available for that that’s something really surprised me I’ve been to many Muslim country but pork was
Not available if you have a dietary restriction or preference it’s important to carefully check product level and just to make sure that the food that you are purchasing aligns with your dietary requirements whether you’re planning a romantic getaway or family vacation or
