So I got a bit of a reduction um this current facade that we have here uh was erected between 166 1621 and 1700 uh according to plans that were drawn up by Francisco Hera uh the new facade replaced the old Gothic style one which was destroyed by thunder and
Lightning in 1580 the construction of the main portal marked the culmination of the Barack period of newca and it is dominated by immaculately crowned by the statue of St George see I don’t know if you can see the satue of St George there he’s killing the
Dragon on the left side of the Statue of Ramanu And to St Dominic part the right side of the statue is the Blessed d scotus and St Francis of aisi at the Bottom we can see see now it more clearly so that’s the entrance that’s the way to go in to see the uh the cloter and get into the Basilica you can’t just go in from this side I’ve just come into the Basilica and uh on the monastery of San Francisco and
U just going to have a little walk around and uh have a look it’s actually a school as well so there’s children here uh having their lessons from primary school right up to high school and I’ve been given a an information shoot so got all the information and this is the Royal
Monastery of San Francis is one of the most historic monasteries of Palmer its Great Value can only be compared to that of the Cathedral of Palmer and it was declared a national monument in 1881 its Basilica houses the remains of the new yoran great wise man ramanu and uh that’s probably something of
Particular interest to me Franciscan friers decided to build the monastery in 1286 with the support of haime the thir king of mayorca after almost five cent living there they were expelled from there in 1835 the building later served as a school accommodation Barracks prison and a courthouse the third order regular
Franciscans that’s the tour t r um finally settled there in 1906 and restored worship they also built a school that opened in 1952 so we can only uh walk around the the lower floor here and uh we’ve got the three wise men there out the side Here looks like I might be the only visitor today lemons on the tree this is the CLS that we’re in now and the cloter is the main area in the monastery around which the monastic life revolves it is the best place for meditation and reading however and in
The past it has also been used as a cemetery and to grow fruits and vegetables the cloter of San Francisco is one of the farmer’s most representative poters it’s Gothic style arches on the ground floor and dates from the 14th and 15th centuries and are held by Thin elegant columns you can see
Those here the upper Gallery dates from the 16th and 17th century uh along the covered walks are tombs of noble families from Palmer center of the cloy features the garden and the well well it’s just a little bit further around right in the center there and a fine bell bell [Applause]
Tower which was built in 1734 rounds off this harmonia Ensemble which invites to silence and prayer well there’s not a lot of silence and prayer going on at the moment it’s more children sounds as though they might be enjoying their play Time there are some nice benches here so we could actually sit and just enjoy the different area He this is the first room and just down here we’ve got Raman your Relic n would probably be interested in the music there rather a different format than the usual crotchets and Quavers that I’m used to seeing at home my wow obviously we can see the organ spectacular organ which was manufactured in
1771 by the organist Jordy Bosch for e and here lie the remains of ramanu who lived from 1232 to 1315 very important Mystic and wise man linked with the Franciscan order here is alabaster Seer was carved by Francis sis Saga in 1487 theor was the creator of the literary Catalan
Language and is considered the most universal new yoran citizen of all time he reportedly achieved Enlightenment in the sanctuary of Kura and traveled all around the Mediterranean with the aim of promoting the conversion of the infidels by means of philosophical reasoning for for for morning for for for for you for for
Where are the do no so English English English ah As you now I’m the only person in this magnificent building I should have got my other camera the stained glass windows are beautiful [Applause] now we know it’s a school we can hear the Children w

Lots of history here!
The statue outside is of Junipero Serra, a Spanish Catholic priest and missionary of the Franciscan Order. He is credited with establishing the Franciscan Missions in the Sierra Gorda, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. He founded a mission in Baja California and established eight [6] of the 21 Spanish missions in California from San Diego to San Francisco, in what was then Spanish-occupied Alta California in the Province of Las Californias, New Spain.
Inside the basilica is the tomb of Ramón Llull, a philosopher, theologian, poet, missionary, Christian apologist and former knight from the Kingdom of Majorca.
Thanks for watching.

Magnificente Basílica y claustro de San Francisco con el fondo de voces de su prestigioso colegio.
Gracias por su vídeo y saludos Steve y Anita.
Fascinating how they created such amazing architecture etc with no power tools or modern technology.
Cheers 🍻
We have walked past the Basilica many times but we’ve never been in there. Thanks for taking us around Steve.
Excellent vlog, thank you. A magnificent historic but still used religious building. Highly ornate with many chapels as with many Catholic Churches that were not affected by the reformation and later puritans as our monasteries and churches were in the UK. Particularly pleased with the creation of the school that certainly contributes to the life of the site.
I first saw this channel about a year ago, it’s ashame your channel has never took off.
I,d focus on something else it must take up a lot of your time.
All the best.
Wow, this is absolutely beautiful. The cleanliness of the outside and amazing inside. The amount of work. I have to watch this few time. Thank you so much.
The intricate stone work always gets my attention Steve. Every thing made by hand with rudimentary tools. What skill those people had
It's amazing, these places that you can pretty much have to yourself. I particularly enjoyed the cloisters.
