A whopping one third of Australia’s wildlife is represented in Kakadu National Park, and you’ll see plenty of scaly, furry, and feathered locals on board the parks famous cruise on the Yellow Water Billabong (part of the South Alligator River). You may spot lanky jabirus, dainty comb-crested jacanas, and flocks of magpie geese causing a ruckus on take-off. Solitary sea eagles and kites perch majestically on dead tree branches, and schools of small fish — breakfast for the big barramundi — can be spied in the water below.
Watch in awe as giant saltwater crocodiles (known as gingas to the First People) slide silently from the billabong’s banks into the water, before descending and disappearing without a trace.
In this video we cruise Yellow Water with a local guide and soak up the beauty of this pristine waterworld. This signature Kakadu experience is a must-do and operates all year round.
