WE GOT THE KEYS & THEY TOOK EVERYTHING! TUSCAN DIARIES 01
We’re Carlo and Nikki and we live in posetano Italy our house is far from the road but it overlooks the sea and we grow our own food we show you what it’s really like living year round on the Amalfi Coast so please subscribe and welcome to the posano Diaries we’ve just bought a property with an Olive Grove in Tuscany in this video we finally receive the keys and get a bit of a surprise when we enter the house join us as we spend the next few weeks renovating and exploring Tuscany and don’t worry we’ll be back in patano in the
Springtime when we made the first contract we agreed to give the sellers 3 months to renovate where they were moving to as each contact fell through because we ended up buying the house on the fourth contract as each contract fell through a month got added onto the
T time that we could have the house so originally we’re supposed to have the house in August and then it became September and then it became October and then of the fourth contract which actually went through um the date fell around mid December which was just before Christmas and in the moment that
We were signing the Deeds the sellers begged to have an extra month on top of the three months that we’d already given them because uh Christmas was going to upt everything Christmas was also inconvenient for us we didn’t want to get the house just before Christmas and
Then have to dash all the way back to patano to do Christmas with the family and then come all the way back here so we agreed to leave it until mid January it’s been a strange first week in the last video you saw us dropping off a
Carload of belongings a few days before we actually got the keys now thank God that we actually came that time because I had a quick wand around the house and realized that they had dismantled and taken away all of the bathroom sink units apart from one little one that was
Blocked and broken but at least we have water we got a very nasty shock when we realized how expensive kitchen sink units actually are we’ve come to one of the big DIY stores to have a look at the bathroom units and now I understand why that they have taken their bathroom
Units with them because they’re really expensive this one here which would almost be perfect not quite but €6 without the tab something that we hadn’t budgeted for we scoured all the secondhand markets in the area and there’s a lot of them and we did find a few kitchen uh
Bathroom sink units but they were really old and didn’t go at all in the bathrooms here so we realized that we were going to have to buy new ones we ended up in Ikea trusty Ikea we’ve got some bathroom units arriving now at a cost of €1,400 that we hadn’t really
Budgeted for anyhow there’s bound to be lots more surprises like that finally the day arrived to exchange the keys we had to wait until the evening because the sellers were busy during the day and we were hoping we’re going to get the keys first thing in the morning but it
Turned out to be 7:00 in the evening okay we are on our way to get the keys this first time we’ve seen it at night as well [Laughter] fore and when they finally drove away and we went into the house we quickly realized that they had taken dismantled all of the light fittings and most of the light bulbs leaving us in near Darkness most of the rooms were in total darkness so we’re stumbling around
In the darkness uh We’ve we’ve taken the light bulbs that we can find and put them in the areas that we need them so we’re okay for now but yes we definitely need to get some light fitting sorted out [Laughter] what good morning I’m standing in my driveway in our new driveway of our new home in TUS SK and I just wanted to have a quick chat before we go in so buying a new property is um it’s a funny thing because some people can look at it and
See it as it is now and some people can look at it and imagine what it can be in the future that’s what I want you to bear in mind so um you won’t be able to see this through my eyes and your view of it might be completely different from
Mine so I looked at this house and I saw potential potential to change a lot of things and make it completely different so what I’m going to do is while I show you round I’m going to put up some of my inspiration photos so you get an idea of
What I think I could do with it now of course we are going to be putting our own touches on this house we’re going to do some Renovations and change a few things and I’m going to go through that with you so you can get an idea of what
We want to do but of course we have to do it in order of importance we can’t do all the pretty things first one of the first things I want to do is get rid of this carport here which is a very nice carport but it’s right on the
Side of the house I think it will open up the garden um and it’s just in a very odd place there’s a much more sensible place for it to go down at the end of the driveway there actually was a carport here but this is where we will move that
One to makes much more sense so caros obviously pared the car right in front of the house because he’s unloading a few things another thing we want to do is change this um porch area here it juts out far too much for my liking and I think we
Just need to change it I’m going to put up an idea of what I’d like to change it to so one day that will be lovely with some outside furniture outside in the summer that white part of the building is covered in Vines and flowers it’s beautiful and then this art which way
Goes down to more of the Garden in fact seeing as it’s a nice sunny day today let’s go and have a look around the garden cuz it might not be sunny tomorrow so you can get an idea of what it looks like it’s still quite early in the morning so it’s quite Shady
Still but if we go down here now down here there’s about um 2 Acres of Woodland but haven’t really been down there yet so we’ll go and see that another time let’s go and have a look around here we’ve got I think there’s about 100 olive trees on the property
Now this shed here is going to be removed this is actually the ex-owner shed it’s quite a shame cuz it’s a nice shed but it’s illegal so they have to take this down and take it away with them so it’s all a bit of a mess because
They’re moving out and we’re moving in and they’re got they’ve got lots to do so over here this was actually a pen I think they had a truffle dog here uh which they’ve actually had to rehome so the pen has gone and now there’s just this left so could be good for chickens
Now up that way it’s mostly olives let’s see if we can get up there I don’t really know my way what are you doing in today you funny doggy so this is just really all Olive Groves here and there’s um two different types of olive Groves there’s this one I
Don’t know what this is is this a water tank about staying or going and then there’s this sort of Grove here which is really really tight knit they’re all really really close to each other and quite overgrown as well that’s going to need a good trim
Might have to call in some help so all in all there’s 3.8 acres of land here um I think half half of it is Woodland and half of it is Olive Grove and garden so let’s see if I can get into the garden right I can go through the
Carport now this Garden is enclosed actually it’s going to be handy to keep the dogs in and they had a above ground pool which they sank into the ground here and now have taken away so I think they’re going to dismantle this structure in the next next few days and
This will become Garden again as it once was now one interesting thing I found out yesterday is that even though they took away all of the kitchen and the bathroom sinks they left us five tortoises who are currently in hibernation in here I think yes there they are no indeed no no no
No and I’ve just spotted two chairs over here so I might go and get them and take them inside because we currently have nothing but there’ll be stuff arriving in the next few days anyhow let talk about the tortoises so the tortoises basically are in hibernation at the
Moment unless Indie wakes them up and um they’ve the the ex owners de said they will come back and get them in the springtime when they wake up but I wouldn’t mind keeping one we could bring a Tores back and forth with us between here and posano couldn’t we
This is a beautiful weeping willow tree which will be lovely in the summer and the word for Willow in Italian is salisha so we’re thinking about calling the house salisha or La salisha not sure yet but if anybody has any other ideas please let us know but La salisha could
Be it I don’t want to call it Willow or the Willows that’s too English we are in Italy and we can’t keep saying Tuscany we can’t keep saying we’re going to our house in Tuscany so we’ve got to come up with a name for it anyway let me get
Those chairs and bring them inside come away from there leave them alone and look here we’ve got a little pomegranate Bush oh lovely I’ll leave the chairs there for now now look at this view so I’ve been asking Carlo about how we can change this because ideally what
I’d like to do is have it tilted rather than sticking straight out I think I think it should be tilted going downwards and maybe a bit shorter because it’s it’s very long um I think the pillars should be where the roof ends or maybe just a little bit above
But not going all the way out so that’s what we’re talking about only outside okay please come here this is the main room there’s a fireplace there this is where the kitchen was we will be changing this that goes through to the rest of the house which we’ll see
Later now I’ve always thought there’s nothing more boring than an empty house tour it’s really hard to see what it could be so I’m going to insert a photo of this what this room look like with their stuffing it I don’t think they actually mind um so I just show you
Quickly what it look look like and I’m going to be obviously changing it there’s nothing left in here and it will look completely different cuz we’ve got very different plans for this room we’re debating whether we should knock this wall down as well we still haven’t
Decided yet we’ve got a lot of things to do Indie is in heaven Indie what have you got show me show me what have you got you are collecting all the footballs so the family that lived here before had three teenage sons that were all football
Mad and there’s loads and loads of half deated footballs lying around which is Indy’s favorite thing ever so she’s obviously collecting them all up there’s two there she’s got two out in the back room and she’s having the time of her life come on get it get it I’m going to
Get it get it so exciting we kick one keep her busy for hours here I want to start from scratch I want to take down the tiles don’t want that bit if we had to we can keep this but I want it more rustic I think so maybe it would be
Easier to just knock it down and start again especially if we knock that wall down Fore okay okay we’re going to leave the house for now we need to go and get the paint and stuff before the shops close we’ll be we’ll be back Soon foree Speee for spee for great okay what tree is it lavender sage and rosemary our first delivery of wood now we can heat the house because the house is heated by wood stove which is here and then that heats all the radiators so the first thing we needed was wood and now we have
Wood day two and I have been putting on I don’t know what it’s called in English isolant it’s a anti- mold solution that you just paint on the corners and the walls where mold could come so I’ve been preparing the walls with that because later on I’m going to start painting I
Want to get the main bedroom livable in so that as soon as possible we can move in here and we don’t have to keep going back and forth we’ve just had our wood delivery and now we’ve got to probably move all of that the house but Maria and
Lenza have come around to have a look and I absolutely love it even the guy with the wood loved it so we’re very very happy at the moment lots to do Loreno you need to eat before work what are you going to do y we’re going to test out the heating in
The house see how warm it gets and yes I’ve hung a little picture up here but one of you lovely people did for me I found a hook on the wall so that’s there You for Noe Carla just said let’s hope it’s all still there tomorrow morning and it hasn’t fallen down and we turned around and it all fell down we found this mysterious box on a bedroom wall we don’t know what’s in It what that I don’t know Beautiful little so oh there another one ah We got you some doggy beds arriving very soon so you’ll both be comfy okay in a day or two your beds from England are coming yeah we are at the end of day two what have we accomplished today I have painted an anti- mold liquid over the
Corners and angles of all the walls upstairs there isn’t really any more there’s just a little bit in the corner so we thought before we paint it we’ll put some of this Solution on which helps the mold well helps not be mold so I’ve done that this morning that’s had time
To dry we have got wood so we’ve had a load of wood quen yes done 10 Quint I don’t know what a quintal is in English 1,000 kilos of wood have arrived as you saw and we piled them up and they fell down and we piled them up and they
Fell down and then I took three um three wheelbarrow loads into the back of the house and we’ve got the fire going and we’ve got the radiators on so it’s not freezing cold in here so the next big thing that we need to do is to get
The temporary Kitchen in so once we’ve got the temporary kitchen we can actually move in here camp out upstairs and we’ll be able to cook and feed ourselves so that is our next project hopefully tomorrow see and we also need to get some lights in here as well
Because they took all the lights and most of the light bulbs so we need to get that sorted too and I need to clean the glass on that tomorrow do first thing tomorrow when when the fire’s out yeah is she nice and warm now any Vision it’s cleaning her
Bott I finally found a little table outside so I brought that in so I’ve got a table and chair and that is the only Furniture we have at the moment so a couple of details about the house before I leave you until next week this house
Was built in 2012 so it’s relatively new it’s only 12 years old which is great because it means there’s no major restructuration to do which means we can play around and do the fun stuff it has double glazing on the windows and it has mosquito Nets and then it has the
Security bars so it is really good and safe for when we have to lock up and go back to Positano it has solar panels on the roof and it has an Energy Efficiency rating of A3 which is the second highest rating now that is fantastic because all
Of the other houses that we went to visit had an Energy Efficiency rating of G which is pretty bad so so we think we’ got a really really good deal with this house it was a really good price and we think it’s got lots of potential so I
Hope that you are going to come along with us for the Journey of renovating bashing through walls painting buying furniture in all the secondhand places and all the rest of it thank you everybody for watching have a wonderful week and we’ll see you next Sunday bye for Now

Congratulations, i can't wait to see what you are going to do❤❤
Nicki walking around using a curtain rod as a pointer like a magical woman wielding a magic wand of imagination painting her vision for us 😆 I absolutely love it😂… also the home garden and grove are BELLA 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽✨ but the most beautiful thing was the smiles on your faces!!!! I think Italy is where the sayings “took everything that wasn’t nailed down” or “took everything but the kitchen sink” came from. In your case they took that too lol! Dang! Even the lightbulbs….!
Hope you’re soaking up all this excitement and wonder!!! XOXO
Salice Nostro. Che ne pensate?
Love the house enjoy the adventure looking forward to seeing you guys next week
You have handled sharing all this with tact, and still remain optimistic and enthusiastic! I have been greeted with surprises on closing day in the U.S. before, but nothing like this. I can absolutely see the potential and am so excited to see what you and Carlo come up with. As others have mentioned, perhaps wait and watch the rain and light before you shorten the patio covering.
Some names/ideas I thought of for your new property:
* Land's Rest (as opposed to the ocean lifestyle in Positano)
* I believe there are lots of butterflies in Tuscany, esp because of the olive trees. Name your property after a native butterfly and to represent the transformation/metamorphosis the home will undergo.
* La Bella Oliva (The fancy olive) – A fun name to represent the abundance of olive trees and the beautiful transformation the home will undergo.
* La Tortuga – A homage to the turtles, but also thinking about the slow and steady transformation your property will undergo
la legna si mette a strati, una orrizzontale e una verticale e cosi' via…
And you are being too kind; the former owners could have relocated their tortoises months ago while they were renovating their new home back in October.
Personally, I would have demanded that they remove all their belongings by the following day, given how inconsiderate they were.
wow the lavendar and rosemary and sage are the largest I have ever seen. ALl have protection qualities metaphysically so tehy say
Italians have to purchase their own kitchens, wardrobes ( no closets usually ) and light fixtures
My family in Naples and Florence had to 🤷🏻♀️
CONGRATULATIONS! You are both amazing and hard-working people. Novels, homes, gardens, and now a new home in Tuscany
It is so much fun to go back through the last four years (since the worst days of lock down when I had just been made redundant at my old job) and see all that has happened. I feel as if in some way I "know" you all. Hope some day to be able to visit beautiful Positano. Good luck!!
La nuova propieta’ e’ Bellissima .So happy for you AUGURONI 👍🙏🏼❤️
Your house has great bones. I can't wait to see the transformation. It is going to be even more beautiful.
Just the view makes it worth it.
Once again, congratulations Nicki and Carlos!
Please have your chimney cleaned for safety to your family.
What a beautiful piece of property….you will have a lot of work to do but my goodness the end result will be amazing….👍
Beautiful property. Looking forward to seeing how you transform it.
I can’t wait to see how you are going to make it yours. Going to sit back and enjoy watching the progress. ♥️ So happy for you!
Yay🎉 having homes in two of the most beautiful places in Italy ~ how very blessed by God are you and Carlo🎉🙏🎉 double blessings
It is a wonderful start to a new adventure. Yes it will cost more than anticipated, but everything now will be of your choosing. Living with other peoples decor and choices can be great, but often you would want to change decor.
Good luck and d have fun.
We refer to that paint as Kilz. Not sure what it’s called elsewhere
♥️♥️♥️ such a lovely home ♥️
So exciting, can't wait to watch the journey. xx
1) They needed that extra month to dismantle the sinks and light bulbs 😅 2) Whatever to them, bye! This house has potential and most importantly you can park next to the house!
When piling wood some layers need to be placed across/horizontal to support the layer on top
I can’t believe they took the light bulbs
