America right now is icon of the Seas I have never seen so much publicity on a new cruise ship ever I mean proba like I’m a today show Watcher in the morning they did a little segment on it I mean it’s just like all over the place

There’s so much hype there is more hype about this is the most hype up cruise ship I’m going to say of all time I would say and I think it’s you know there’s even people that aren’t into cruising that are still really like knowledgeable and have heard about this

Cruise ship I mean again Royal does an awesome job with their marketing for sure yeah when you have a neighbor come up to you and be like did you see that ship had like six slids on it and you’re like you don’t even go on cruises how do

You know that they’re like they’re like you know asking you all about it and are you going to go on yeah that’s the one question we get number one question I think we get asked from friends and family right now cuz they know we have the channel right they know we like

Cruising is are you going on icon the Seas and the answer is heck yeah heck yeah my wallet was like heck no but we are like heck yeah we are all in yeah we uh we booked this the at like 2 a.m. the morning that those cabins went on sale

Than goodness we did because the prices moved in One Direction very quickly which was up yeah yeah um but I think we also need to talk a about who the Godfather of the ship is going to be yeah we got that completely wrong we were hoping for Dolly Parton instead we

Got we got Messi yeah and I’ll be honest I’m not like a huge soccer follower it’s called football football but remember football is life football is life you didn’t learn anything from that show but I mean I I get that he’s iconic in His World of Sports so yay for that but I

Was I was hoping like a Seline Dion or Dolly it’s a marketing thing honestly they tie that in with um uh you know the football club in Miami yes no it all makes sense I want to like soccer I I do too I think it’s so lows scoring but I

Love hockey and fast and people bash into each other and there’s fights let’s be real that’s maybe why I like it but yeah who knows I’m I’m interested if he’ll be on our inaugural sailing and uh you know maybe he’ll be a runin i yeah who knows uh probably not I’ll pack my

Soccer ball just in case I need find him and he can sign it for me you’re soccer you’re gonna have to buy a soccer ball I know all right so we’re we’re GNA just hop through a bunch of kind of random topics today about icon so this is kind

Of like our icon uh preview uh we’re going to be staying in the suits area which I’m very excited about um we’ll see and we’re going to give it again we love to be brutally on we not brutally I don’t think that’s the right word we we

Just like to be fair yeah I think like our our Channel goal is that we try to do maybe some more um add-on experiences to a cruise um and let you know if it’s value added for you when you decide to go book a cruise do you want to do that

Specialty dining do you think it’s worth getting the drink package what about renting this Cabana going to you know perfect day at CoCo K and getting like the beach club so for this time we’re doing the suite so we’re going to tell you is it going to be worth it is it

Going to be worth it so um so let’s start on let’s talk so I went through I’m joining if you ever go on a cruise join the there’s usually a Facebook group um for that cruise I’d highly recommend not only do you get to know some people ahead of the cruise which is

Kind of fun um but you can ask questions you can post stuff like it’s a way to get kind of amped up for your cruise right so you know when you’re in between meetings at work you can go check out what people posting that to day I never

Do that FYI I I straight through you know 8 8 to 6:00 every day just work work work um so uh just reading through some of the topic areas so the first topic area that’s been really really a lot of talk about this is the nickel and

Diing so it is Royal Caribbean turning into the MSC right of the C’s right because MSE kind of has a really bad rap for like up charging high pressure sales nickel and diming um or just like ultr really confusing drink drink and food packages which you have to have a

Decoder ring to decipher um but yeah nickel and diming so let’s let’s jump into so have you heard about any of that Colleen I have and I think um I I it’ll be interesting to see how people react to it and if Royal reassesses how how they’re doing this now and their

Approach they’re taking cuzz it’s going to get costly for a family of four one of the first gripes and people have done this cuz there’s ways to do this is or they’re booked on multiple cruises right is you can look and see for some of the add-on things they’re Dynamic pricing so

They change over time and they are charging a premium on a lot of these inaugural cruising which is somewhat insulting because you’ve paid a premium already to be on the cruise and then they’re like well let’s see how much more you’re willing to pay we can squeeze out of

You yeah so let’s talk about some of these experiences so so first one uh extra cost venues people are excited about this I was excited about this one and actually I would have paid for this one but was not able to secure it maybe we still can when we get on board but

It’s the Empire Supper Club yeah I think it’s going to be um it’s new it’s interesting it’s something that Royal has not rolled out and I think it’s going to be more like intimate dining smaller smaller venues smaller tables um so that I appreciate it but that ticket

Price $200 per person right but it’s an immersive experience multi-course meal jazz music playing supposed to have that kind of like prohibition era feel to it so and someone was saying online they’re going to get like a flapper dress I mean some people are like getting getting

Dressed up for the Empire Supper Club yeah yeah they’re going all in with the theme yeah and it’s like and it’s one of the few times where Royal has said like men you must wear a coat I love it it is required and they’ll have some to B I

Mean that’s like old school right you walk into a you know like maybe you’re a young professional you walk into a restaurant and like you just maybe have a shirt and tie on they’re like oh no no no you need a jacket sir here you can borrow our purple green one that

Somebody left and it 10 sizes too large for you um but yeah so Empire Seer club uh the next one I don’t have the pricing I think it was well over $1,000 was the celebration table Yeah again another fun little venue a great great little you

Know it seems more like family style um beautiful kind of you know intimate table venue yeah and that one’s for up to 133 people so you could split the cost across you know several couples like then it’s you know it’s still expensive but you could have that nice

Intimate uh setting again kind of limited because there’s only one table right so like if per night I think per night yeah there maybe there might be a couple different seeings I don’t know I wasn’t able to see so I can’t tell you because they were booked out so fast

Yeah um so uh the next thing is um some of the um areas on the ship that I think everybody thought were going to be included aren’t included right so the first one is base camp Provisions have you heard about base camp Provisions I haven’t tell me a little bit about that

One I think that’s in the thrill part of the ship okay um but um they’re doing like I want to be honest these things should be included like there should not be enough charge chicken nuggets and waffle bites $7 $7 that’s crazy crazy yep $7 um cheese curds $6 woo crispy shrimp

Boa bun $8 wow crispy chicken sandwich this is the one that kills me $9 wow well actually this next one kills me a Smash Burger for $11 I mean how much better is it going to be than the buffet like what is what is the incentive is it just because it’s

Close and you don’t have to get up and gowhere D ding winner winner chicken dinner you figured it out why I pay a premium I I have no idea of course we’re we’re probably going to get some of these things just to again to give you

Our full review on them you can get a free hot dog though and tots or pretzel bites wow yeah but you know how that’s going to turn out with the kids the kids are going to be like oh you know I just met my friend Johnny and he’s got a

Crispy chicken sandwich have a free hot dog no you know this going to be the Melt I’m going to call I’m going to have a prediction That Base Camp Provisions is is going to get known as meltdown Central probably right um when the kids can’t get what they their friends are

Getting all right um Pier 7 I I’m still trying to confirm this this is the All Day brunch but I saw somewhere and I don’t know where if it was a Facebook post or somewhere else but I I think it’s free if you’re under 12 years old

And if you’re over 12 you have to pay that’s crazy was this the place that had like was it like lobster Benedict or I don’t know it had more upscale menu items we’re going to have to confirm that when we get on board that one I’m

Not 100% sure of uh this next one though I am so deserted Yep this is the specialty milkshake now we I kind of knew the milkshakes were going to be extra yeah but how much what do you want how much would you be willing to pay for

A milkshake I mean if it’s like a portion for one maybe $8 try 14 I mean is it sharable yeah they I mean they look sharable they look humongous I mean they look fantastic I don’t know that amount of Ice Cream and Dairy yeah that’s uh that’s not for

That’s not going to be a fun day is it there um they have one called the stranded B uh burrow I keep on to saying the stranded burrito but it’s the stranded burrow burrow like the mule like um it’s $18 oh my God are these like spiked

Milkshakes uh no but you can pay more to because to make it spiked of course and they’re not included in the drink package which people have been pinging Royal Caribbean and asking that question so on Facebook right now the answer is not included but again all this is

Subject to change like this could all be changed very last minute where Royal starts to look at the feedback and they’re like oh guys like maybe we maybe this isn’t such a good idea right um cuz it it there’s a little bit of this and I

And I swear this is the most negative the podcast is going to be well actually gets a little more more negative in the next section but then it gets all positive after this um but yeah so um the next thing which is I will say is

The most first of all for what you’re paying and for what we’ve seen from videos absolutely not worth it Absolut crowns Edge so you want to tell everyone what the crowns Edge is for the listeners who don’t know yeah so it’s like you you get strapped into a harness

System and you’re basically kind of going out over the water on like a ropes course for lack of better description world’s shortest ropes course it looks ridiculous 90 seconds long and how much are you paying $99 I mean just or $90 I think it was

$90 now it’s I don’t know it keeps but I think it’s $90 so you pay a dollar a second I I don’t think there’s any experience out there that’s worth a dollar a second nope I’m with you there but I guess you know if it was free the

Line would be astronomical so I get they’ve charge but like you think about Carnival and like some of these other ships that have like these kind of add-on experiences they like you know5 $20 well and that goes back to the the whole like base camp thing like you know

You think about Carnival which we haven’t been on yet but you have things like Shacks you know big chicken right um and then they have another uh what’s what’s the guy the flavor Guys burger town like Guyer guy Fier Burgers like that’s stuff’s included right right so I

Think that the you know and I’ve also read some reports that real Caribbean I don’t know if it was real you know it’s like becoming more like a land vacation which isn’t the value prop of a cruise vacation right the value prop of a cruise vacation is you get a great

Experience and it’s pretty much all inclusive right so um last thing is Coco K Coco K’s always had add-on things but let’s talk about some of the new stuff so they have Hideaway Bay yep which is the new adults only area so it starts at $99 and then the pricing will vary

Depending on what cruise you’re on so we ended up picking it for like 60 bucks or so after multiple things but it’s on other cruises again this goes back to this Dynamic pricing and the inaugural there’s another creu someone took a snapshot of it it’s

$35 wow so I’m okay with 60 I mean it’s it granted I don’t think you get a ton of extra but it’s a kids free zone Yeah well yeah but sometimes you know the adults the adults can be worse than the children can be um we are going though

So we’ll at least show you what what it is and if it’s worth it um The Hideaway pool Cabana you can get that for $2,399 is that like a four person Cabana I think it’s up to eight okay I guess when need start dividing it out but it’s

300 bucks a person still yeah it’s like oh these are the prices too before the 18% gratuity oh of course fi um the beach clubs the Coco Beach Club which we really liked but I don’t like it at $215 right now on this Cruise no but you

Got to check out our our review of that I mean it’s a it’s a great little area I think um not worth more than I’d say 120 tops per person agreed agreed pay more than that I would say I really love the upscale menu and the luncheon there but

I would have to order like I don’t know eight coconut crusted Lobster Tales to feeling I got my value no we didn’t it wasn’t eight it was a lot we were full we did two each stuffed yeah um and then the Coca K overwat commas right now for this particular selling

$3500 oo that’s a hit is a hit but I guess if you’re getting that ultimate family suite and you’re paying $100,000 like what’s another 3,500 bucks so true it’s a drop in the Hat it’s a drop in the Hat all right um so this next section I call this things people are

Questioning SL Ang angry about wow okay so we’re continuing with maybe still the more negative yeah trust me it’s going to get more positive so okay okay right now the fireworks very contentious oh so people are like I saw the fireworks in my in my cruise planner now they’re gone

Are they not doing fireworks what’s going on with the fireworks are we having fireworks at the saway we having fireworks at CoCo K and I’m going to tell you right now okay I’m just going to look right here Royal Caribbean CEO if you don’t have fireworks on the

Inaugural there’s going to be a mob of people who are going to come and get you and it’s not going to be me I’m like I like fireworks like but I’m not going to be like oh the whole Cruise was ruined because I didn’t get fireworks but people are really worked up about

Fireworks it’s just so funny the things that people get passionate about I mean yeah I like fireworks like the next person but to your point it’s like whatever and how great are they going to really be yeah I mean they’ll be nice right but it’s again you know it’s not

Going to be like that year we went to Nashville you should check out if you hav haven’t seen that video we went to Nashville the best fireworks display hands hands down it hand it went on for like an hour it did it was crazy um all

Right so this is the other thing I’m seeing on Facebook right now guaranteed rooms there’s people still waiting for guaranteed rooms I can’t imagine I mean we’re talking now today is well by the time this goes up it’ll be a week before the sailing I mean we’re two weeks out

At the time of recording this I can’t imagine I would be super stressed and the reason I would be super stressed is the track record right now that Royal Caribbean has in overselling cruises and having people not go and I I I just hope to God if they don’t have rooms for

These people that they tell them like right now before they get on a plane right and and head to Miami and especially I mean we’re talking this is in January so people that are coming from up North Northeast Midwest wherever there’s bad weather people are going to

Be flying out maybe a day or two in advance to just take into account I’m honest I think that’s what Royal Caribbean banks on when they oversell these cruises is they’re hoping that people just won’t show which yeah if there’s some type of weather event again another reason why you should always fly

And look I have a rule of thumb if you’re coming from anywhere it’s at least one day if you’re going transcontinental meaning from like California you know Washington C you know um Portland you know wherever Alaska yeah you got to do two days yeah two days there’s just so much that can

Go wrong um to get yourself there but um again so guaranteed rooms people still waiting scary um all right next is the key uh being cancelled so um people had the key and it ended up getting canceled so no key for anyone which is interesting I mean again that’s an area

That they can collect some extra cash get people on board early which I’m sure is why people signed up for the key not not the chops lunch they just want to get on board first yeah and you do get the Wi-Fi with it um and if you’re tendering you’re supposed to get

Priority tendering we never use that feature of it but the key is nice uh but no key for this um sailing and then the elevators so people have a lot of questions about the elevators so they’re the um if you’ve ever been to a hotel nowadays um you press you know they have

The ppad outside of the elevator and you press what floor you’re wanting to go to and then an elevator comes to take you to that specific floor it’s supposed to help speed things along but I think this is just going to cause Mass confusion I’m with you and I mean the little bit

Of preview of the layout of the elevators has me slightly concerned to be honest as again a wheelchair user I hit the keypad and I have to go potentially across carpet across the foyer to get to an elevator in the completely different side yeah so we’re

Going to see uh what the that situation is all right that’s it that’s it no more negativity for the rest of this podcast you’re done Nate done with that negative let’s get on to the positive stuff so here’s the things that people are excited about so do you know who Rover

Is I have I have heard of Rover who I’m very excited he’s a golden retriever he’s a golden retriever on the ship yep first dog at Sea and he looks like an adorable little puppy I’m not sure he’s going to be like a mascot or what the

Point of it is but heck I just like having a dog yep so he’s going to be living on the ship um next topic formal night okay people are very excited about this formal night I I’ll be honest I Nate and I don’t necessarily partake in formal wear on formal night but the

Things that I’ve seen again back to this Facebook group that Nate’s talking about people like women are posting like pictures of long gowns men are talking about wearing their tuxedos I mean I’ll be honest I’ve kind of gone into a little bit of overdrive and like okay I

Got to up my game for formal night yeah so I’m bringing along this jacket and tie porny yeah you know uh but again people are really getting excited for the so I think it’s more of an inaugural thing I think it’ll fade after a while I

Mean the only cruise we ever saw people really dressed up and it was I think it was because of the holidays was when we were on lore of the Seas people were like really decked out and we were very shocked because it’s cruising’s gone definitely much more casual it has it

Has so I think this is going the other way and there’s definitely a lot of theme nights on this cruise and yep we’re we’re all in we tring white night a Caribbean night so stay tuned for the multiple attire changes between neate and I yeah so the uh next thing is

T-shirts uh and magnets people going all out customize t-shirts um you know with their family name or if they’re doing a group Cruise or they have a vlog or whatever right um but also the magnets the door magnets people are having special ones made up people are making

Things I saw something today where someone made something for the crew oh wow like a wooden carve out of the ship and it’s like inaugural sailing and they plan on giving it to like their room Steward that’s very generous very thoughtful I mean I guess that’s one way

To get better service now the question is is are they going to give that and then keep their tips as well too you know we’ve heard this thing about see I don’t want to throw anyone under the bus but someone talking about like the stuff that they bring for like

The crew and Stu just give them money yeah they don’t they don’t want your chocolates they don’t want your little shampoos they don’t want your little shampoos I did hear like the Wi-Fi cards are kind of popular because if you get off the ship you know the Wi-Fi you know

Unless you work on Virgin they don’t you know crew have to pay for Wi-Fi but for the most part they just want the money just give them the money show me the [Laughter] money all right um this this one here I mean we’re going to go have to see this

Group but the band Phoenix has like they’re a cover band cover rock cover band right they have like a group they have groupies yeah there is a lot of hype around this band so I am very interested in I mean there’s people that are like have been posting that they

Heard that they’re going to be on there then Phoenix confirmed they’re going to be on there I mean it’s I know it’s a big ordeal it’s very exciting it’s almost up there with the fireworks need it’s it really is it really is up there with the fireworks and um um and

Actually this one I forgot to put on the list but also like the stuff people want to know like what are the chotskies oh yeah the the inaugural chis the memorabilia the maybe I’m going to call them chis I see I’m excited that’s one thing you

Know I don’t actually own a lot of like Cruise GE from like different trips we’ve been on so well that’s your own fault I tried to get you to buy stuff and you won’t buy stuff I’m a little cheap in that area so yeah maybe there’ll be a a little icon hat or

Something yeah probably a hat at least um so people are excited about that so um other things people are excited about the Aquadome Market again this is an included venue this is kind of nice it’s an alternative to I wouldn’t say it’s an alternative to the buffet but it’s kind

Of Royal’s response to the um the whole like food court yeah type of thing so they’re going to have four restaurants in there uh the feta Mediterranean which is just what it sounds like it’s like Mediterranean bowls Max which should be your favorite which is mac and cheese

Mac and cheese you know where I’m going to be yep hanging out there uh Ginger which is the Asian kind of you know inspired bowls and then they have Crema crepe uh which is uh the um the crepery and they will have both Savory um and um

You know dessert Crepes well I’d say that’s right up your Alle you always talk about loving your Crepes they’re sweet and savory I can’t never found anywhere in the US where you can get a Savory crepe it’s crazy and I had them I had them in Paris many years ago and it

Was like the greatest food like I ever had and now I’ve just been deprived so well not anymore Nate in two weeks I don’t know I’m going to hold my it’s just hard it’s hard to do the French food outside of France it’s hard to find

Good places that do do that stuff um but next up are the shows so people are really excited about the shows people also kind of nervous about the shows cuz they’re well the first offer of tickets has been booked out yeah that’s that’s a shame well and I think if I recall you

Said with Wizard of Oz there wasn’t like multiple show offerings okay so here’s the thing it was I was literally um we’ve had a bunch of meetings this week at like my work and we’re literally between meetings like like a quick break like a 15 20 minute break and I go

Online cuz people have been talking about the shows I’m like H and I and I look at someone’s like the shows are open now this is three hours previous I’m like oh boy yeah and like most of them were sold out but I I was able to

Secure us The Wizard of Oz Aqua action uh which is the new Aqua show that’s going to be in the Aquadome so that looks super cool um Starburst which is the new um at the the the new Ice Arena okay um so we’re going to see that uh

Then there’s this other thing the tickets weren’t available yet called show band Live which sounds like it’s going to be a live band singers and stuff like that so that looks kind of cool there are a couple kids show which kids um you know Ice shows and other

Shows that are available too um and we’ve kept the track record going of never being able to see a comedy act on a on a ship outside the one that they have like the big theat which is usually the kind of you know let’s be honest like it’s like a G-rated G-rated comedy

Is like not funny no it isn’t so well that’s good so we’ve got quite a bit of shows and we’re going to we do and I think more tickets will come available um you know as uh you know once you get on board because people are

Like oh I always reserve a show I’m like I’ve never reserved a show before getting on board the ship usually always have to do it on the ship all right next up ducks ducks I don’t know I don’t know if I get the the duck thing I mean it’s

Just I guess like wait did you just tell the world that you’re anti-ck on this podcast no that is not what I said guys just for the record I’m produck please don’t come at me come come I don’t know I guess maybe I got to find a duck and

Maybe I’ll have a different opinion I’ll be like I’m going duck hunting I’m going to wear camo one day and don’t ever wear FYI never wear Cambo to the Caribbean no no it’s like illegal in a lot of countries yeah uh they had not a good track record with people that wear Cambo

So that’s not allowed but um but for duck hunting on the ship yeah stroll through Central how about if I got camo and I got a duck caller and I called out the Ducks and when people said like what are you doing and say I’m duck hunting

What do you think I think people are think you’re crazy they already think that um all right so this one we have a we do have one star that’s going to be a board okay do you know who it is I don’t Super Mario oh nice so Super Mario he

Was actually on our Oasis sailing but we never I don’t know I feel we saw his office saw his office I feel weird going up to people sometimes yeah yeah I think he’s going to be like a little mini star and he’s going to get probably bombarded

So maybe we’ll we’ll just do a quick pass by and say hi if we see him but y I’m with you yep so um pickle ball people excited about that W I’m just saying what people are excited about it doesn’t mean you have to be excited

About it I said this was the positive part of the Pod okay all right I got to keep it positive I don’t know again just don’t really get the obsession with pickle ball but maybe I’d have to play to really grasp it’s like slow tennis I know it’s like slow tennis and

And fast like I don’t know badminton or all right um so the last section I have here and then we can talk about if there’s anything specific that you know I’ll ask you one last question but vloggers um there going to be a lot of

Vloggers on this cruise I think a lot of people thought like hey I’m going to be able to get you first one on I’m going to get all this video well guess what you’re wrong you wrong because guess what this week they had the or which will be last week

So a couple weeks ago when you’re listening to this they’ve already had media on board y so you know the typical and again I can’t blame these people Royal Caribbean Vlog yeah um port hole Cruise news or something like that has been on board um you’re going to have

More preview sailings with a lot of travel agents and I think several of them that we know of will be on board so if you were a vlogger hoping to get like kind of like exclusive first time content not happening but with that said lots of vloggers coming

On board um Colleen is there a particular vlogger that you are excited to meet I’m excited to meet travel spree I’ll be quite honest Laura and Fain woohoo my name is Nate and this is my second cup of the coffee of the day I was gonna say that’s what I want to say

With them I want to be like Laura this is my first drink of the day yep yeah should I dye my hair purple think that they look or green or whatever color has he has more like teal teal teal maybe he’ll have like a different color for

This cruise but yeah I’m very excited to meet them I mean there’s a lot of vloggers I think Chris Wong I might go check him down in the casino I know the guy has to like do his day job how’s he going to get his day job down he’s

Basically become a celebrity he has um in his own right on there but um so we have Chris Wong Vlogs um travel spree um these folks I never heard of but they’re they’re clearly very popular because they have 100,000 sub subscribers but a rich and Jazzy life yep yep I have heard

Of them I have yeah I think I watched a a video or two but yeah who um hard travel of course hard travel will be on board um this one we’re again A lot of people are confused about the preview cruises are not the inaugural right so

This person we think is going to be on the inaugural we’re not 100% sure uh maybe I’ll tag them in the description so uh Tre trendy if you’re going to be on let us know um but Tre try if you haven’t you’ve seen some of his videos

Right I have I love them I think they’re great he does like Posh travel I would say Posh yes he’s from the UK so I think Posh is the right word um but yeah it does like luxury travel luxury experiences so if maybe we’ll if he’s

Going to be on the ship he’s going to be in the suits oh of course of course so maybe we get a little interview maybe we can just do a little meet and greet yeah that would be great I I would put money on it it would it would be so expensive

Though but I mean again the guy gets like millions of views but if he did like the iconic Suite like the huge yeah one that would not Shock Me yeah but I think he would I I honestly think he would promote it more though if he was

Doing that one um or he’s just kind of you know keeping it lowkey and then he’s gonna be like Bam Bam here I am in the hund I am $100,000 sweet there we go um so cruising with JT so cruising with JT was more of a instagrammer I think yeah
