The Hiking Hermit presents Ramsau Germany, Zauberwald and Lake Hintersee, Berchtesgaden National Park Sit back, relax and join me as I take you on a hike through one of the most picturesque areas in the Bavarian Alps. We start in the village of Ramsau and hike our way to Hintersee lake via the quite enchanting

Magic forest. So I’m at the church in Ramsau, St Sebastian That picture postcard view behind me I’m going to go take a look inside the church if it’s open but sure is a beautiful spot With the clouds today hanging up on the mountains Looks as though there might be some rain today but

What a beautiful view So you can’t seem to get many pictures with no people on they just seem to hang around on the bridge So I’m going to go and check out the church see if it’s open Ramsau has a population of around 1,800.

St. Sebastian church in Ramsau, Germany was built in 1512 under Prince Provost Rainer. The church has been the subject of many sketches and paintings in the past and is now one of the most photographed churches in Germany.

You can certainly see why with the third highest mountain in Germany, the Watzmann as a back drop So I’ve taken a load of photos I don’t know if I got any good ones because it was hard to get a photo without anybody in or obstructing other peoples photo taking

And it isn’t really that busy but now I’m going to go and see if I can have a look inside the church So we’re just moving into the small graveyard at the back of the church So now I’ve just left the church and I’m going to go for a walk

Up to the lake at Hintersee See what views we can get there Looks as though there’s one or two clouds looming but seems to be clearing up a little bit and there is some cloud sat on some of the mountains Hopefully this path takes us up to the path towards Hintersee

And we’re not on private land So it says 2 miles to Hintersee, one hour I’m sure it won’t take me that long even if I do some stops for photos and filming etc Well I stop filming and turn a corner and get some more views worth capturing

I probably could keep the video rolling all day if I had enough battery power although I have got 3 batteries, full batteries Just making my way to Hintersee but catch some of that lovely green river and the mountain back drop

Sure is a lot cooler day today and there’s some clouds in the sky so a bit respite from the sun maybe my legs might recover a bit more from the sun burn they’re not too bad they’re just not used to the sun I don’t think So I’ve just past a large car park

And at a crossroads still saying 2 miles and 1 hour to Hintersee Ha, I’ve already walked about half a mile How does that work? Maybe they round up around here? So just climbed up a little bit from the river which you can probably hear rumbling down below coming up to a new sign

Hopefully it says less than two miles Wrong, it still says two miles but it is now fifty minutes So maybe it is going to take me an hour because it’s never dropping down from two miles I’m assuming the two means two miles or maybe it means two kilometres

Either way it’s not dropped yet Anyway I’m going in the right direction, that’s the main thing So we’ve now hit some boardwalk and a bar that’s not yet open maybe it’s even too early for the Germans though I have seen people drinking beer at 9 o clock on the buses

Today seems to be a more of a sedate peaceful day compared to the last couple of days which has been a little bit hectic trying to find out where to go, making sure you’re at the right place Making sure all your times are correct Today’s just more of a relaxing day

It’s quite a nice peaceful woodland walk on a nice gravel path that you can probably hear The sun seems to be making an appearance So just come to the main road which I’m going to cross hopefully this sign says less than two Still says two but thirty minutes

Maybe the two isn’t two miles but trail two It’s certainly not a distance anyway because it’s not dropped any since I started So the river has gone into a kind of a gorge and we’re on like a little bridge that allows you to view it It’s quite a view

I’m being watched over by a little owl and we’ll carry on our way to Hintersee Seems as though we’ve come upon another parking area where you perhaps will be able to buy some coffee or something it doesn’t look very open No it’s shut

As you can see the sun’s out and the blue sky is back I was beginning to think I should have brought my rain coat with me We’re down to twenty five minutes to the Lake Hintersee Just follows the river Well just happened across this little quaint water wheel pretty cool

Sure is getting a little warm again now we can’t be too far away from Hintersee There is a sign coming up twenty minutes We’ve just come over to a bridge a lot of activity in the river here a torrent And check we’re going in the right way

Ha, well that was a quick five minutes now down to fifthteen minutes So just come out of a little clearing can see right down on the river bank It’s not been raining as much of late so probably not quite as much of a torrent as normal We’re about to climb some steps

A lovely waterfall come into view just off the path quite the torrent beautiful! It’s been quite a lovely little walk so far lots of different views to be had Another lovely viewpoint as we make our way up the trail it’s quite varied

Sure is a lovely walk with plenty of waterfalls etc along the way Can’t be too far away from Hintersee now So here we’ve come up to the lake, Lake Hintersee That sure is a fab view with that mountain back drop I’m going to have a look around the lake

Can see some fishes there in the lake and a duck The sun is out again, the looming clouds have gone so it looks like it could turn out to be another nice day Just stopped off at a little booth bought myself a coffee before I move on

So just had a coffee and leaving to go to a viewpoint over the lake it’s supposed to be quite a fine view It’s only about a kilometre from here so it’s worth the trip over I think see if the views are as good as they’re said to be

Certainly getting some of the lake views coming into view now Sure is a good view I don’t think that was the main viewpoint so it was pretty good views from there but I will carry on I think there is a better viewpoint a little along the way Sure getting some super views

On another fine day So I’ve just dropped down off the main path I’ve got a little viewpoint to myself some nice reflections on the lake There’s a few people boating on it I’ll just stop here and take a few photographs So I’m going to leave this viewpoint

It’s not often you get a one to yourself but get back on the main path now I’ve dropped down and found this fabulous viewpoint mountain back drop How’s that one for a view? Beautiful! Another place to take a few photographs Sure is a nice spot here

Take some more photographs with boat in there not sure how they’ll turn out but they look pretty good Pretty picture postcard view I’m going to hop across on the next rock Swinging round People rowing Beautiful! I’m still making my way around Hintersee

And I’ve not come across the viewpoint that’s supposed to have the really good views now if they beat the views I’ve just had than I’ll be surprised very surprised and it will be a good surprise because those views I had back there were pretty awesome So we’ve just across this viewpoint

Still not the main viewpoint I’m looking for but I’m sure you’ll agree it’s not bad view Still making our way around There’s view every couple of minutes or less So I’ve dropped down to another yet fabulous viewpoint Still not got to the viewpoint marked on Google Maps as the viewpoint

But I’m sure you’ll agree this one is a fabulous view and for the second I’ve got it to myself It’s beautiful Look at that view WOW! Fabulous I’ve just dropped down off the path to have this viewpoint to myself I think the last viewpoint must have been the one on Google Maps

That I had to myself because this one isn’t as good I don’t think It looks as though you hire boats get some refreshments Sure is another beautiful spot Just capturing those views Sure is a fabulous gem of a lake and free to visit

It’s always good to get boats in with a mountain back drop So I’m going to try and find my bus So I’m just making my way to find the bus stop for the number 847 according to Google Maps I need to walk about ten minutes in this direction

So I’m just waiting for the bus to… I’ve got about a ten minute wait Save my legs and this is where I’ll basically swap later to catch the 846 back into Berchtesgaden

We start in Ramsau village and hike our way to Lake Hintersee via the quite enchanting magic forest (Zauberwald). This hike takes you through one of the most picturesque areas in the Bavarian Alps, Germany. At Ramsau village is the one of most photographed churches in Germany, the St Sebastian Church, which has the Watzmann mountain as a back drop. In the magic forest on the Hintersee, the idea of a primeval mountain forest has become a reality. It was created thousands of years ago by a dramatic rock fall. The Hintersee was created by this rock fall, the draining water has since sought its way through the magic forest and slipped deep into the earth through the boulders.

So sit back, relax and join me as I take you on a hike through one of the most picturesque areas in the Bavarian Alps
