While in Rome I made friends with Yola from Germany, Luiza from Brazil, and Sarka from the Czech Republic. We had dinner near our hostel (Alessandro Palace) then caught the metro to the Trevi Fountain, and didn’t get back til 1am.
I slept in the next day and got to the Roman Forum at about 12pm. I had pre-booked an online S.U.P.E.R. ticket which I highly recommend – buy it direct from the co-op culture website ( I think it changes every year and this year everything is closed. I had booked a viewing of the Casa di Livia at 3pm and luckily I had brought an umbrella which helped in the sun as well as the rain!

Rome is awesome but you do need more than three nights stay, and you shouldn’t book yourself more than one thing each day. Leave room for flexibility and spontaneity. I learnt this lesson the hard way. If I ever got a chance to visit Rome again, I would book at least five nights and find accommodation closer to the centre because if you situate yourself well, everything except Vatican city can be walking distance.
