Mit Bahn und Interrail durch die Schweiz nach Italien | ARD Reisen
. That starts off great: our train has been cancelled. We have four minutes. It has to be quick. Yes, platform three. You can see the glacier behind. Look at this. I’ve never seen anything like it. Impressive. You can’t see it from here, but the so-called Madonnina sits on top of the cathedral. Today we’re going on an adventure trip, namely by train, or more precisely, with the Interrail ticket. This used to only be for young people who wanted to discover Europe. Today there are no more age restrictions. That’s why my cameraman Tobi can also be there. Tell me, are you serious?
We don’t want to talk about that now. We start at Saarbrücken main station. Our destination is Rome. But we don’t want to get there for another five days. Let’s see where we end up on the way and whether we can make progress by train. It’s nice that you’re here.
Now we have to hurry so we don’t miss the train. Tobi, let’s go! The Interrail ticket works like this: You book a ticket for a month and then choose your travel days. The price also depends on this. We booked four days for 258 euros. I think you can hardly get there cheaper. I just see our train has been cancelled. That means we have to find someone else. That will be interesting. That’s off to a great start. This means that our seat reservation is no longer valid. But we have great standing room here. We’re trying to get by now. We have four minutes. It has to be quick. Do you think we can do it? – Yes. Maybe the other person is late too. – Nope. We are in Switzerland. – We are in Switzerland. OK. Come quickly! I still have my fucking suitcase with me. Train travel is so relaxing, they said. He’s standing there…he’s standing there. And the next sprint, here we go. Tobi, that’s why we go jogging every day. Here we go! Ah, look, there’s people stopping… there’s people holding the door open. (gasps:) Okay. I think the nice thing about Interrail is that you can get around a lot. We have made getting around a principle. Tobi, you planned the whole thing. Yes, and there is a lot on the way to Rome. For example the Swiss mountains, Milan or Venice.
I thought to myself: Why don’t we do everything? And that in five days. I’m excited to see whether we can complete the program. I mean, we’re taking the train. What could go wrong? We have arrived at our first stop, in Chur. Eight hours of train travel are behind us. I found it a bit stressful. I hope things will be more relaxed in the next few days. Now let’s go to the hotel, Tobi, right? Yes, I don’t know if what I booked
Can be called a hotel. It’s something more special. We’re sleeping in prison today. (laughs:) No! The Sennhof used to be a prison, and they have just converted it into a hostel. Look at the doors here. These are still the really original doors. With food flap. No, you can’t see through it anymore. You go ahead. So, ladies and gentlemen. The presenter of the show will be unable to attend for a few years. That’s why you’re coming with me to my new travel show: “I want to go there!”. Cozy. Yes, you… I’ve always wanted to sleep in prison. Look, there’s an escape plan just in case. I don’t know if that was the case before. I do not think so. Good night. This is what prison looks like during the day. Luckily we were released again. That’s why we can still take a look at the city. Chur is the oldest city in Switzerland. Let’s go. A highlight of our tour awaits us: the Bernina Express. Once over the Alps. You can also use it with the Interrail ticket. We decided against it and bought tickets so as not to waste a day of travel. Because the tour only lasts an hour and a half. Wow, look at how deep that goes. Oh, that’s nice. It’s definitely more comfortable than hiking all that way, right? I read up a bit about the Bernina Express. Did you know that this route is a world heritage site? And that it leads through 55 tunnels? Then we don’t have to be surprised if someone comes here every few meters. And over a whopping 196 bridges. I’m getting ready again with my backpack. Very good, because this is Pontresina. We get off here. – Yep. Bye. Let’s go, Tobi. Come on! You don’t know where we’re going. Yes, that way. – Yes, almost. In the other direction, but first to the other train track. From the train we are on the next one, this time on a mountain railway. We want to go very high up to a viewpoint: Muottas Muragl. We will spend the night there. But not in jail again, right? So, I searched. Unfortunately there is no prison up there, just a romantic hotel.
So, the night should be different than yesterday. I hope so for you, my friend. – Me too. Dude, this is cold. And there we go to the hotel. (laughs:) Yes, that’s a different house number, Tobi. And? Oh yeah. Isn’t it nice to wake up in the middle of the mountains? When I thought about our Interrail tour, I didn’t expect this and that’s why I didn’t take hiking boots with me. But that shouldn’t stop us from taking a little tour here. Because our train doesn’t leave until this afternoon. So… Cows! Do you think I can pet them? No, but you probably won’t let it stop you from trying. Wuah… Are you scared? – Yes! It’s crazy how fast they are, right? – Incomprehensible. You always think cows can’t do anything, but they’re real mountain goats. That’s nice, right? You also have to fight hard, you always have to run up. As train travelers, we are used to the landscape passing us by and not having to move. Yes, and that is also part of the Interrail tour. Being at the station too early, hanging around, waiting for trains. But we’ll get back on the Bernina Express straight away. But doze off a bit while you’re at it, right? You can see the glacier behind. Cool. Look at this. Wow. Yes, that’s so crazy. Looks so fake, right? Like a photo wallpaper, but a very nice photo wallpaper. Also the waterfalls that come down behind it. I’ve never seen anything like it. Impressive, really. And now we go into the driver’s cab. Is that cool. Hello. – Hello. This has to be the coolest place to work in the world, right? Yes, it fits. How long have you been doing this? – I’ve been doing this for 13 years. Mmm. And if you drive past this glacier, for example,
Do you still think it’s beautiful? Or think like this, ah yes, glacier. This is always beautiful, always beautiful. Yes, right? Every day is a different picture. Yes, I think this job is the envy of many small children. Yes. And big. – And big ones too. Bye, Bernina Express. What a contrast. This morning in the mountains, in peace. And now in the big city. And I don’t need the sweater anymore either. I’m pretty tired. Tobi, you too? – Yes. Off to the hostel. Good night. We arrived in Milan in the summer and are doing a bit of sightseeing today. I could have memorized the travel guide to tell you and you, Tobi, something about the city. I thought I’d let an insider do it, Laura.
She has lived here for seven years and is already waiting for me. Hi Laura. – Hello, Simin. Glad to see you. – As well. Welcome to Milan. The cathedral is right there. Shall we start there? Yes very much. That’s really impressive. Still for you too? Yes, it’s actually still very impressive every time. And I see a lot of sculptures here. I can’t even count them anymore. There are over 3,000 sculptures. It is actually the case that most of the figures or even certain parts
Are replaced when they become darker due to environmental pollution . I recently read that there are over 100,000 restoration hours that go into it every year to guarantee the maintenance of the cathedral and to keep it looking so beautifully white. I’m impressed. I think that’s so beautiful. Yes. This isthe Galleria Vittorio Emanuele. And you can see the luxury brands here: Prada, Louis Vuitton, Dior. How important is fashion in Milan? Milan is the fashion metropolis. And everyone wants to be a part of it. And that is very important.
Mmm. Now you work here as a traditional seamstress. Yes, tailor. Exactly. What is it like when you come to Milan as a German, the fashion metropolis? Do the people of Milan say welcome? Or… It’s actually the case that with German training, craft training, it’s relatively easy to gain a foothold here.
Of course there are prejudices against the Germans. We’re technically very good, but aesthetically we’re just a zero. Please? (Laughter) Here you can see the difference between Germans and Italians: I wear the old Birkenstocks and you wear the designer shoes. Do I have to be ashamed of these shoes? No, absolutely not.
But you wouldn’t wear it? – I wouldn’t wear it. I can live with that. I’m also an Interrailer, I like it comfortable. You have a great experience and a city tour at the same time. And for little money too. Come on, I’ll show you something strange that many people don’t know. This is the church of San Bernardino alle Ossa. Looks inconspicuous. – Yes, just wait and see. Wow. Oh, that’s scary. Are they all real? – Yes. Real bones and skulls? – Yes, as decoration, so to speak. And…there’s a legend that says that on November 2nd these bonesreassemble and…then noises come out of this ossuary here. Ugh, scary. Thank God it’s not November. But… wow, it gives me goosebumps. What do you love about the lifestyle here? This is generally everyday life. Just this more relaxed and not so strict, work, homeand back to work, but that there is more. Could you imagine going back to Germany at some point? Honestly not at all. For me that would be like emigrating now.
Emigration is the right keyword. You don’t have to, but we have to. Our train is leaving soon. Thank you for showing us around. Thank you for your visit and have a safe journey. See you next time. – See you then. Ciao, ciao. – Ciao.
Oh, you have to come too, Tobi. Here we go. Milan in a good 20 hours? You can do it, but it’s a ride. I think we’ll come back and take a closer look at the city. But for now, next stop: Venice. I’m looking forward to it. We are now comfortably on the express train to Venice. You can also use it with the Interrail ticket in many countries, including Italy. But you need a seat reservation. The Interrail app reminds you, it costs an extra 15 euros. But the extra cost is worth it. (laughs) It’s like on TV. This is exactly how we know Venice from movies. I had just arrived and met two Interrailers. We recognize each other by our large backpacks. Hello you two. – (both:) Hello. Have you just arrived in Venice? Yes, about 20 minutes ago.
How has your route been so far? Where are you all? First we went to Prague, then to Vienna, Budapest, then to Zagreb, then to Rijeka. Now we are here. Then we go to Rome and then we go home again. We’re on the road for a total ofthree weeks. It’s a bit like that…
This Interrail pass is described as an adventure. Has it been an adventure for you so far? Absolutely, yes. – Yes. Um, so you experience a lot of things that you wouldn’t otherwise really experience on a normal vacation . You meet a lot of new people who do Interrail.
It’s easier to get into conversation than on a normal vacation. And then spend time with people you wouldn’t know otherwise. Anyway, very interesting. Have a good onward journey. Maybe we’ll see each other in Rome. Otherwise it’s fine. – Bye. See you then. – Ciao. When I said before the trip that we were stopping in Venice, a friend said: “I know someone there.” “Marko is a tour guide here.” “He’ll definitely want to show you the city.” I’m looking for him in this crowd now. Hi. -Oh! Ciao! Ciao. – Ciao, Bella. (English:) Nice to see you. – (English:) Nice to see you. Welcome to Venice, to San Marco. What a coincidence. – Ready for the tour? Yes. – Let’s go. There are only four bridges over the Grand Canal. This means that sometimes you have to take detours or squeeze over the bridges. But luckily there is also public transport here. We’re in Venice, so these are boats. You have public transport for getting over the … (English:) Exactly, that’s how it is.
There are the traghetti here. They’ll take you to the other side for two euros. You also have a great view of the Grand Canal. Perfect. I’m feeling a bit sick here now, strong waves. A gondola ride is a little less romantic than I imagined . (laughs:) Mmm. Ciao. – Ciao. Ciao. (English:) We are here in one of the most famous squares in the world, St. Mark’s Square. But tell me, what does that actually mean? St. Mark’s Square is something like the heart of Venice. That’s St. Mark’s Basilica in front, and in it lie the bones of the Evangelist Mark. And today Venice’s wealth comes from tourism, right? Yes, exactly. Every year more than 23 million tourists come to Venice. But that also means the city is quite overcrowded. Many locals have already moved to the mainland because of this. The old town now only has a population of around 49,000.
This is a historic low. There were sometimes 180,000, then 150,000, and then fewer and fewer. Okay, so this is the famous Rialto Bridge. It’s bigger than I thought. Yes, it’s pretty big. It was built in 1591. Since then it has connected the two sides of the Grand Canal. Let’s go up. – Let’s go up. Okay. Nice. Love it. Say, that’s probably not… So… He’s fine. (Laughter) Marko, this is a nice place here. Absolutely. Campiello Barbaro, very peaceful and quiet. I come here sometimes to relax and chill. And to avoid the crowds? And to avoid the crowds. Do you see that house over there? This is Ca’ Dario, also called the “Cursed House”. The “Cursed House”? Why this?
Because all of the owners died unexpectedly shortly after they bought the house . They were murdered, killed themselves or died of a serious illness. Really? – Yes. That’s why no one wants to buy the house anymore. There could beevil spirits in there. Nobody at home. Hopefully. (with pleasure:) Mmh. But this isn’t a normal Aperol Spritz, is it? Exactly, that’s Spritz Select, the Venetian version of Spritz. There are other herbs in it and they give it its own, great taste. Mmm. Delicious. Marko, you grew up here. Tell me, how was that? Really beautifull.
You’re surrounded by this incredible beauty all the time , the canals and so on. So, it’s really great here. A completely different atmosphere than in other cities. Mmm. I almost feel like a Venetian here with these little treats and the Spritz Select. That’s the word. – Exactly.
This will be my new favorite drink. This is the end of our tour. Thanks for showing us Venice. Thank you for being there. Thank you, that was really fun. And… – See you. See you soon. – See you soon. Bye. We are now enjoying our last evening in Venice. Right, Tobi? -Yes. Venice in one day, that’s possible. And it’s worth it. It’s really beautiful here. As Marko said, it’s like walking through an open-air museum. Tomorrow our next stop: Rome. We did it, we arrived in Rome. We want to take a look at the city. We start with the state in the city, the Vatican. We don’t have a Laura or a Marko with us here in Rome. That’s why we have to shine with our modest knowledge. Tobi, what do you know? – A fun fact. Did you know that, per population, the Vatican has the highest crime rate in the world? It’s the pickpockets, right?
That’s why I have the small one with me. I know something else, for us train lovers, the Vatican has the shortest train route in the world, just under 300 meters. It doesn’t always have to be the Trevi Fountain, it’s way too overcrowded anyway. Here in Piazza Navona there are three fountains, each more beautiful than the other. (laughs:) Oh God. The Pantheon, which of course should not be missed when visiting Rome, was actually built in honor of the Roman gods. Then at some point it became a church. Well, I find this dome really impressive. Say, it’s open at the top, right? Isn’t it raining in there? I read that the airflow coming from the building causes the water droplets to evaporate, which is why it hardly rains. The day in Rome comes to an end, and with it our broadcast ends. Six days, five different places, experienced so much. Tobi, can you still remember everything? Well, I’m not sure. I think we were in the mountains too, right? Yes, that feels like a lifetime ago.
On the whole we got through well. – Yes, that’s right. The only thing might be the luggage thing. When you travel by train you always have to carry your things. It’s more comfortable by car. That was the only downer. We met a lot of great people because of it.
The nice thing about the Interrail ticket is that you get off where you like and get back on when you’ve seen enough. Above all, you can’t travel more sustainably. I could imagine doing that again. But then with a little more time. Nice that you accompanied us on our journey.
We say goodbye to Rome: Arrivederci and Ciao! SWR 2023

Super toll dein Video ❤
Mach weiter so 👏
