Travelling by train in Europe is typically a good experience, and in Switzerland, where this video was filmed, it is even better than most. Swiss trains are renowned for keeping to the timetable, and for being clean and well run. Most countries in Western Europe subsidise their railways heavily because they know it is preferable to move people and freight by train rather than on the over-crowded roads.
The train in my video is operated by Trenitalia, the main rail company in Italy, owned by the Italian Government through its company Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane (they formed this parent company in 2001 to comply with EU legislation on rail transport deregulation).
This film was shot in the Central Swiss city of Zug and shows the departure of the 1531 service to Milan – the train started its journey in Zürich.
