Castillo de Ibiza overlooks Ibiza Town and its harbor from a spectacular hilltop position in the Dalt Vila historical site. Built on 12th-century foundations, the castle is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. During restoration works, many artifacts from Roman, Phoenician and Carthaginian times were unearthed in the area where the castle is located. In addition, the remains of the original Phoenician walls dating from the 7th century BC and the Roman Temple were discovered. Ibiza Castle, which is a historical heritage with all these features, ranks high on the route of local and foreign tourists.

Castillo de Ibiza’s Historical Heritage
Castillo de Ibiza was built in the 16th century by order of Phillip II, but its foundations date back to the 12th century. There are many buildings inside the castle. However, there are two main defense buildings that are still standing. The Baluarte de Sant Jaume is now an open-air museum displaying the weapons used to defend the walls of Ibiza. The Baluarte de Sant Pere houses an exhibition explaining how these walls were built.

The Castillo de Ibiza is also historically significant for the massacre of more than 100 Ibizan nationalist prisoners during the Spanish Civil War.

The Almudaina Tower, a later addition to the building’s nine square towers, was used as the administrative and military headquarters of the governor of Ibiza during the Andalusian period. Over the centuries, Ibiza Castle has undergone many similar renovations and additions, so you can see not only medieval architecture, but also Andalusian and 18th century architecture.

Castillo de Ibiza Visit Dates and Times
The two surviving buildings of Castillo de Ibiza, Baluartes de Sant Jaume and Sant Pere, are closed between December 10 and February 28, in addition to Mondays and public holidays. Outside of these dates;

October to March, Tuesday to Friday, 10.00 to 16.30,
Tuesday to Friday from 10.00 to 14.00 and 17.00 to 20.00 from April to September,
It welcomes guests between 10.00 and 14.00 on weekends.
In July – August, the evening visiting hours change between 18.00 and 21.00.

Entrance inside the castle is not allowed. The entrance fee to the exhibition of old guns and cannons in the outer area, how each of them was made, when and in which war they were used, is 5 Euros per person; 2 Euros per person for students and groups of more than 5 people. Children under 12 and people over 65 are admitted free of charge. The fact that the castle is located on a hill may cause difficulties in transportation for people with special needs and visitors with children in strollers.

Castillo de Ibiza,16. yüzyılda II. Phillip’in emriyle inşa edilmiştir ancak temelleri 12. yüzyıla kadar dayanmaktadır. Kalenin içinde birçok yapı bulunmaktadır. Ancak şu an hala ayakta duran iki ana savunma binası vardır. Bunlardan Baluarte de Sant Jaume, şu anda İbiza’nın duvarlarını savunmak için kullanılan silahların sergilendiği bir açık hava müzesidir. Baluarte de Sant Pere ise bu duvarların nasıl inşa edildiğini açıklayan bir sergiye ev sahipliği yapmaktadır.

Castillo de Ibiza, İspanya İç Savaşı sırasında 100’den fazla İbizalı milliyetçi mahkumun katledilmesi nedeniyle de tarihsel olarak önem taşımaktadır.

Binada bulunan dokuz kare kuleye sonradan bağlanan Almudaina Kulesi, Endülüs döneminde İbiza valisinin idari ve askeri karargahı olarak kullanılmıştır. Yüzyıllar içinde buna benzer pek çok tadilat ve ekleme yapılan İbiza Kalesi’nde bu nedenle sadece Orta Çağ mimarisi değil, Endülüs ve 18. yüzyıl mimarisinin de çizgileri görülmektedir.

Castillo de Ibiza Ziyaret Tarihleri ve Saatleri
Castillo de Ibiza’nın günümüze gelen iki binası olan Baluartes de Sant Jaume ve Sant Pere, pazartesi günleri ve resmi tatillerin yanı sıra 10 Aralık – 28 Şubat tarihleri arasında kapalıdır. Bu tarihler dışında ise;

Ekim – Mart arası salıdan cumaya 10.00 – 16.30,
Nisan – Eylül arası salıdan cumaya 10.00 ile 14.00 ve 17.00 ile 20.00,
Hafta sonları 10.00 ile 14.00 saatlerinde misafir ağırlamaktadır.
Temmuz – Ağustos aylarında akşam ziyaret saatleri 18.00 ile 21.00 olarak değişiyor.
