CHONGQING, My Honest Opinion | Travel Guide 2024

Chonging a sprawling Mega city in Southwest China used to be overshadowed by more prominent tourist destinations pretty much until early last year when viral videos on Tik Tok turned it into one of the most famous cities in the whole entire world what was once an understated megalopolis has now turned

Into a tourist hotspot whereas before travelers to China would have the great wall and the Oriental Pearl at the top of their to-do lists now it’s Hong Yong cave and Ley bar station luckily I had the pleasure of traveling to Chongqing last year and as I’m now a pretty

Seasoned traveler of China having lived here for 2 and A2 years and seen half the country I am in a great position to give you guys travel advice from getting there staying there what to see what to eat if you plan on visiting the Mountain City this video will be your best friend

Of course step number one is to actually get there now traveling to China from the UK Europe or North America can obviously be difficult it’s expensive but not as expensive as last year and prices keep dropping all the time that being said there are direct flights from

London or if you are flying from somewhere else you can pretty much stop off at chungu Shanghai or Hong Kong and then get a second flight from there amazingly if you are from the UK or the 52 other designated countries and you are flying in from abroad to chonging

Airport you do not need a tourist visa as you can apply for a 144-hour Transit visa on arrival which means you can explore chonging for up to 6 days before heading back out of the country perfect if this trip is a stop on your way to perhaps another trip once you’re in

Ching traveling around is easy compared to other countries but difficult compared to other Chinese cities you see chonging is a maze of mountains and concrete also the city is split by some rather large rivers so getting from side to side can be difficult there are the famous yellow taxis everywhere to get

You from the airport to your hotel and to all the attractions in between however I wouldn’t recommend grabbing one of those from the airport as they can be a bit overpriced it’s better to download DD or galur the Chinese versions of uber and grab a car on those

Platforms DD also has an international English language version which is obviously a great help to tourists the subway system is fairly simple although it is the only one in China I believe that goes above ground for some stops due to the terrain so it’s best to get orientated with the

Subway system when you arrive in the city there is also a really cool monoral in chonging that goes above ground and of course Le bar station that goes through buildings but more on that later probably the best and most novel way to get around the city specifically from

One side to the other over the river well in fact there are two ways chonging is super famous for the rivers that split the city the Yi and the jaring rivers Clash creating this really cool effect where one side of the water is one color and the other side is a

Completely different color it’s cool but it’s huge and impractical so you may want to get from one side of the city to the other and not want to walk one of the huge Bridges to get there so for this you have two options you can either catch the ferry that leaves fairly

Regularly I think around once an hour or you can catch the cable car the cable car in Ching is cool because it’s still used by workers on their daily commutes but it’s also obviously turned into a huge tourist spot with people catching the cable car just to take in the

Magnificent views so if you want to get a cool picture but also need to get across the river the cable car is a pretty cool and fast way of doing both staying in chonging you may find that it’s pretty cheap compared to many other cities in China like Beijing Shanghai or

Shenzhen you can easily find a nice hotel in the central area for around $30 per night matter whether it’s the national holiday or not that is pretty much guaranteed and make sure you do find a hotel as close to the center as possible chonging is a huge sprawling

Mega City and it goes up and down and up and down and there are some areas that cars can’t get to and some communities where you’ll have the driver drop you off at the gate only to find out that it’s another 30 minute walk to get up to

The steps where you’re staying trust me it’s best to find a hotel hotel as close to the attractions that you want to visit as possible which brings us on to the best places in chonging to visit and there are quite a few in this city I would say number one should be liyar

Station for a few reasons which I’ll tell you about Lear station is the Metro station where the subway train runs through the buildings it’s a fully functional station but it’s now turned into a tourist Hotpot so I would say to go visit this place first because one

It’s literally a metro station so you can arrive right at the attraction take the pictures that you want to take get out explore a little bit and then jump back in and get to wherever else you’re going and two there is nothing really to do here to be honest with you other than

Watch the train go through the building it’s not as if you’re going to stay here half a day or a full day so you may as well go to Ley bar station get this attraction out of the way and then move on number two too you have to go and see

Hong yya dong Cave of course however it’s only really worth going at night when it’s all lit up in the day from the other side of the river looking at hongyadong Cave you can’t really tell what it even is that being said hongyadong cave will take a little bit

Of planning because first you should see it lit up from across the river you should chill there for a bit take some pictures some people even set up a camp on the shore across the river from the cave and chill there all night and have a few beers however I would recommend

Actually traveling to the other side and going into the Cave the Cave is absolutely massive much bigger than it looks from the outside it’s about 13 or 14 floors of food markets shops and various other things girls can get their makeup done there in the traditional Chinese way and also rent the

Traditional clothing and have professional photos taken that’s pretty cool but it takes about 3 hours to do that there are loads of restaurants and places to eat in the cave and around it so I’d recommend eating when you actually get there next attraction is one you’ve got to see in

The day and that is the Raffles City Plaza so Raffles City is a famous chain of huge shopping malls in China this building is the most iconic in Chongqing or one of the most iconic in Chongqing so you have to go and see it the best viewpoints are actually on the little

Side streets dotted around the building up to about half a kilometer away there are also some secre is spots where you can go up other adjacent buildings and get a really good viewpoint but you’ve got to really look hard for these or know someone that already knows about

Them these probably aren’t the best spots for tourists new to China actually inside the building if you go to the the top you can do the Skywalk but this is expensive and I imagine quite scary for most people Chongqing having the topography that it does means City

Planning has to be pretty unique which is why in this city there are 14,000 Bridges if you’re a bit of an architecture nerd like me then you will really appreciate this place probably the most famous bridge in Chongqing are the Twin River bridges which is a

Pedestrian bridge on top of a rail and motor way Bridge it is really beautiful you can get right up to it and around it so there are some really cool photo spots to look out for right underneath the bridge is another beautiful attraction and that is the city Guild

Back in ancient times Chongqing used to have a lot of merchants travel here and through the city on the Silk Road due to its location in the center of China so the old Guild building is a must SE it’s beautiful and usually incredibly quiet you can walk around and explore this

Place without being bothered by anyone which is incredibly rare for a city of 32 billion people the cable car is one I of course mentioned earlier it’s a form of Transport but it also attracts many tourists you don’t even need to go and visit this one though unless you want to

Travel actually on it because you can see it for pretty much halfway across the city there are simply so many things to see in Chongqing so I will leave you with two more and I think that’s enough first the people’s Assembly Hall opposite the free gorgees museum and

Secondly it’s a little bit out of the city but wooling Mountain Forest Park similar to some other Landscapes around Chongqing like in Hunan Province this place is quartz Sandstone mountains and there’s a secluded temple in the middle of it which is pretty cool finally if you’ve traveled all the way to Chong the

Best thing to eat is what the place is famous for and that is the super spicy hot pot food prices in chonging are very affordable just like everything else so go and find a really nice Hot Pot restaurant and try some of the local speciality you will not be disappointed

Chongqing with its hidden gems and unexpected surprises is worth more than the hype it’s a destination for those seeking a blend of Adventure and history the city not only meets expectations but will probably surpass them too offering an authentic glimpse into the heart of Chinese Urban and cultural life although

Chongqing has gone super viral and is now quite trendy and well known it is still a slice of the real China in my opinion it still has its history but also has the Super high-tech modern side of it too it’s one of those places that you simply have to go and see for

Yourself no video on Tik Tok really does it justice so go and check it out thanks for watching drop me a subscribe and a like and I’ll see you in the next Video

Visiting Chongqing? I’m not surprised. Since Chongqing went viral in 2022, it has now become one of the most famous cities in the world. From Hongyadong Cave, to Liziba station, there is so much to see and do.

In this video, I will break down the key info you will need if you plan on visiting Chongqing in 2024!

  2. thanks for the video. as great as china and places like chongqing is today, there are thousands of years of history and wisdom buried under the new shiny buildings and consumerist society. i hope in the next decades, mainlanders would put more effort to preserve and celebrate history and regional variety, more than superficial tourism.
things like local dialects and identity are fading away, and if the chinese aren't careful, these cities would become Clone cities like in the UK, where every high street look the same.

  3. Disney’s new animated films, Come With My Youth(Turning Red) and The Elemental, both have a lot of Sichuan elements

The MEI MEI that accompanies my youth(Turning Red), MEI MEI is the red panda of Sichuan

Elemental The fire element girl inside is Sichuan pepper culture
Sichuan culture is very Thick and so is its food. This is why it has fascinated Hollywood and Disney many times.

In Sichuan, I recommend you take your go to the famous Shu nan Bamboo Sea (蜀南竹海) and CHUAN XI Bamboo Sea (川西竹海)for vacation. The scenery there was once one of the filming locations for the Avatar movie.

The bamboo shoot food there is very delicious, and there are also entertainment projects such as giant pandas, cable cars, caves, river boating, cliff monuments, ancient boys and so on.

  4. There are also two Old City's worth visiting – Ciqikou and the newly restored Shibati (18 Steps), both in the centre. The CBD itself is also worth a look,as a vast pedestrianised area full of shopping and eateries

  5. this dude's narrative vocal is very soothing. Beside that point, Thank you for the tourist info. we plan on visiting Chongqing. It will be our first time in China.
