The Church of Mother of God before Týn is a Gothic church and a dominant feature of the Old Town of Prague (14th century). The church was designed in the late Gothic style under the influence of Matthias of Arras and later Peter Parler.

It has been the main church of this part of the city since the 14th century. The church’s two towers are 80 m high, and each tower’s spire is topped by eight smaller spires in two layers of four.

The church’s furniture is mostly Baroque. The Baroque furnishings, made by woodcarvings of early Baroque altars, are eye-catching. Old Town Square is a historic square in the Old Town quarter of Prague. The square features buildings belonging to various architectural styles, including the Gothic Church of Our Lady before Týn.

The Prague astronomical clock or Prague Orloj is a medieval astronomical clock attached to the Old Town Hall. The clock was first installed in 1410, making it the third-oldest astronomical clock in the world and the oldest clock still in operation.

“The Walk of the Apostles,” an hourly show of moving Apostle figures and other sculptures, notably a figure of a skeleton that represents Death, striking the time; and a calendar dial with medallions representing the months.

Prague Castle is the largest ancient castle in the world and is among the most visited tourist attractions in Prague. The history of the castle began in 870 when its first walled building, the Church of the Virgin Mary, was built.

The first convent in Bohemia was founded in the castle, next to the church of St. George. A Romanesque palace was erected here during the 12th century.

The Basilica of Saint George and the Basilica of St. Vitus were founded under the reign of Vratislaus I, Duke of Bohemia and his son St. Wenceslaus in the first half of the 10th century.

In the 14th century, under the reign of Charles IV the royal palace was rebuilt in Gothic style and the castle fortifications were strengthened. In 1918, the castle became the seat of the president of the new Czechoslovak Republic, Tomáš Masaryk.

The Metropolitan Cathedral of Saints Vitus is a prominent example of Gothic architecture and is the largest and most important church in the country.

Located within Prague Castle and containing the tombs of many Bohemian kings and Holy Roman Emperors, the cathedral is under the ownership of the Czech government as part of the Prague Castle complex. The current cathedral is the third of a series of religious buildings at the site, all dedicated to St. Vitus.

Construction of the present-day Gothic cathedral began on 21 November 1344, when the seat of Prague was elevated to an archbishopric. Through most of the following centuries, the cathedral stood only half-finished.

In 1844, Václav Pešina, an energetic St. Vitus canon, together with Neo-Gothic architect Josef Kranner presented a program for renovation and completion of the great cathedral at the gathering of German architects in Prague.

Vladislav Hall is a large hall within the Prague Castle complex, used for large public events of the Bohemian monarchy and the modern Czech state. The hall was the largest secular space (62m × 16m × 13m) in medieval Prague and is among the most complex structural and architectural spaces of the late Middle Ages.

Castle Stairs (also called New Castle Stairs) were built as early as in 1278. Paradox is that New Castle Stairs are older than Old Castle Stairs. The Stairs have 220 steps and are about 160 meters in length, leading you down to Lesser Town.

Charles Bridge is a medieval stone arch bridge that crosses the Vltava river in Prague. Its construction started in 1357 under the auspices of King Charles IV, and finished in the early 15th century. The bridge replaced the old Judith Bridge built 1158–1172 that had been badly damaged by a flood in 1342.

As the only means of crossing the river Vltava until 1841, Charles Bridge was the most important connection between Prague Castle and the city’s Old Town and adjacent areas. The bridge is 516 metres (1,693 ft) long and nearly 10 metres (33 ft) wide.

It was built as a bow bridge with 16 arches shielded by ice guards. It is protected by three bridge towers, two on the Lesser Quarter side and one on the Old Town. Throughout its history, Charles Bridge has suffered several disasters and witnessed many historic events.

During the end of the Thirty Years’ War in 1648, the Swedes occupied the west bank of the Vltava, and as they tried to advance into the Old Town the heaviest fighting took place right on the bridge.

During the late 17th century and early 18th century, the bridge gained its typical appearance when an alley of baroque statues was installed on the pillars.

During a great flood in 1784, five pillars were severely damaged, and although the arches did not break down, the traffic on the bridge had to be greatly restricted for some time. Powder Tower is one of the original 13 city gates in Old Town, Prague.

Its construction began in 1475. The tower was intended to be an attractive entrance into the city, instead of a defensive tower. While it was being built, it was called the New Tower. The look of the tower was inspired by the work of Peter Parler on the Charles Bridge.

The gate was used to store gunpowder in the 17th century, hence the name Powder Tower or Powder Gate. Smetana Hall (The Concert Hall) is a celebrated concert venue, in Prague.

The building is of the Art Nouveau architecture style. The building exterior has allegorical art and stucco. There is a mosaic called Homage to Prague by Karel Špillar over the entrance.

Today, the building is used as a concert hall, ballroom, civic building, and includes a café to the left of the lobby and a French restaurant on the right side.
