Ep. 437, A 2500 metri senza Freni🔧: L’Incredibile Discesa 🌋a La Palma 🚐

Hola! What so? Good! And you? Good eh, chicken, vegetables chicken, a bit of tomato, chicken, meat, chorizo nice soup eh, nice! How long should it cook now? How much time? .. it’s cold huh? I’m cold today guys we’ll have dinner in Rafa’s camper wow why did you wear my slippers?

Because mine were wet, guys, this is a bit goofy, it’s three flours, corn, wheat and it mixes with the broth he’s making with all the vegetables and meat, it will become like semolina, or even couscous, a semolina becomes, right? it’s softer, it’s more. .. this what? mojo verde,

The spicy cheese, goat’s cheese, light, it’s a single dish, it’s all there, dish prepared by Rafa, vegetables, chicken, and let’s taste it, and here instead there’s the gofio with, we said, goat’s cheese goat and the three flours, and the green mojo, and the broth,

Everything is mixed with the broth of this, of this dish, it’s a typical Canarian dish, congratulations Rafa, good eh? I like it, it’s called Pucero Canario, very good guys, applause Well done Rafael, well done chef, well done Rafa, great. Guys, it’s 11, we had a good time,

Ate well, he showed us many photographs, many videos of the volcano, remember that Rafa is one of those people who lost six houses, 3000 houses were destroyed, covered by lava, and he’s one of those who lost six houses, two companies with various houses,

Okay, let’s go to bed, see you guys tomorrow, good night everyone. Good morning to all friends, twenty past twelve, we did a billion things as always, we had to wait to move, for Davide to finish his English lesson, he’s finished, now let’s unload everything, and move, Rafael is doing the services,

Also him, and then we get behind him, follow him, and climb up to 2,500 meters above sea level. Good morning Rafael, where are we going now, explain. At the Roque de los Muchachos, at the astrophysicist, where there is the astronomical visitor center, and you can also see the national park from

Above the mountain, the Taburiente caldera, at 2,400 meters above sea level. Nice huh. It’s possible that it’s even 0 degrees at night, so we’re going to be even colder than here, because here we were sleeping last night with 5 degrees.

Now we buy goat meat, because Raffa said that the food is better here than where we ate it yesterday, then we buy a dessert, some bread, and continue. Sweet is his name, Flan? That yes me. Look at that lovely dessert guys, now we’ll take 5 portions too and take them away.

Rita will like it huh? We also buy ourselves a nice stew, here they call it carne con papa, veal stew with potatoes, delicious. We bought a lot of good food guys, a lot of good food. Maybe around a quarter to 2 we will be up in the mountains and we can eat.

Rita, we’re ready. We bought a lot of good stuff, really a lot. In the mountains guys, 1 euro and 44. It costs a lot, but I wanted to refuel because we go up to a lot of altitude and I need diesel for the Chinese because it will be cold.

And after all the climbs that consume a lot, I wouldn’t want to not have any more. And so from a thousand… Maybe 1200, 1300. Let’s go up to 2,400 metres, guys. All curves, Ivecone goes up to third in a big way.

I could also place fourth, but then I have this Raffa camper in front of me. And so we stand like this, behind him. It’s one o’clock, very late and we are still going up. Today we will have lunch in total Spanish time. Look at the road guys, monstrous.

All uphill bends, but a monstrous slope. We’re already above the clouds guys and we’re still climbing. How long is Daddy still missing? A lot, 10 km uphill. Guys what views, we see the ocean and the clouds are below us.

Probably with sunset and a drone we will be able to see a fiery sea. The clouds will look beautiful from above. We arrived, we parked, we are at 2,460 maybe. Now let’s have lunch, we bought as you have seen a lot of good things.

So let’s turn off the engine and eat great guys. We are organizing and Raffa arrives immediately. We have food for a week. Exaggerate. You know that Raffa is worse than you. Yes, he likes it. We therefore have two containers of paella. One meat with potatoes, one stew with sauce.

One of salad, potatoes and tomatoes. This is the second course of paella. Then we have boiled potatoes, they are called here. And then we have a container of goat meat. Look how good it is. How good. I’ll show you up close. This goat meat is different from yours. Yes, if he aims.

There is food. Raffa, we’re fine. We’re fine. One more time together. We have stuff to eat. We have many things to eat. Yes, yes. Nut Plan. There are pieces of rice coming out of your ears too. Nut Plan. Health. Health. Cheers, Raffa. Health. Health. Health. Health. Health. We are always together. Yes.

And then to Tenerife for the Carnaval party. Don’t miss the Tenerife Carnaval. Absolutely not. The best in the world. Absolutely not. Yesterday at the restaurant we ate goat meat, you saw it. They served it full of sauce and then it was destroyed. It was now overcooked.

Look here at the right pieces, whole, as they really should be. Look how good it is. We had lunch and now I’ll show you some of the view, guys. We are here because Raffa, our friend, has a cousin who practically organizes with boy scouts.

They are organizing a route in the middle of these mountains and are bringing kids from Belgium to give them this type of experience. And so today Raffa came up here with the camper with us and five guys instead came up from the mountain, they are studying these routes.

Then they will bring maybe 20 kids, 40 kids , studying everything, studying where to make them sleep, studying where to make them eat and they study precisely this… they organize this type of event, let’s say. Is this balcony amazing? See the whole island. Look how high we are, surrounded by the ocean.

We are right at the highest peak of La Palma. This morning we were right down there. You can see some antennas that I have already shown you with the drone. We were down there. Guys, I was telling you and explaining the story a little bit.

They are all boy scouts, boy scouts from Spain. You see, everyone has their own color. The color of Germany. Allemagna, therefore Germany. And he is Belgian instead. We are inside the visitor center, what is it called? In Spanish it is centro de visitantes. In the astronomical observatory.

All monitors with everything they film with very serious equipment. You see, I’m at the top of the mountain. These are small replicas. And this is what they see. Galaxies. This guys is the volcano that created the whole island. Look what it had to be. Los Llanos. Yes. Via El Paso.

Imagine this when it had practically exploded. A part of the mountain had opened up, it had even descended into the valley. So, as I explained to you, this was the island and it was round. And when the entire mountain exploded, it made a

30 km column up to the sky, up to the stratosphere. And the island was formed here now it’s pointed this way. Indeed. And here a cordillera of volcanoes is formed. And here is the Cumbre Vieja which is in fact the one that erupted three years ago.

And where so many people have lost everything. The first generation of homes are here on the island. The second and this is the third generation. Rafael’s grandfather had this house and they had this one too and they lost them all.

Now we are going up, as I told you, to see the crater that formed the island. Then we go down because then they have to stay here. They have to go hiking, I don’t know, they have to see the stars tonight. I didn’t even understand well. Anyway we get off, go to another

Place and Rafael will join us tomorrow morning. And here guys, I’ve always heard of the Italian Galileo telescope. Look how big it is. Guys, this is the caldera. The mouth of the gigantic volcano that later created the island. Look at that immense crater.

And up here is the highest point on the whole island. This is the highest point on the island. 2466, if I’m not mistaken. Look at those mountains. And look at the views, guys. We are above the clouds, the ocean all around. Wonderful. How beautiful. A correction right away, guys. Not 2466, but 2426.

That’s basically where that crow is up there. That rock is the highest on the island. National Park. Look where we are, friends. Look where we are. Wow. Ceeee… … … You can see Tenerife, Teide, Gomera and among the clouds here you can also see the Hierro. What old mountains, eh.

Millions of years old they must have. But the thought that the island was originally round is after this huge eruption… This mountain exploded, you see. It was round and on one side the mountain completely opened up to the valley and created the island downwards, towards the south. What is this wall called?

Roberto’s wall. Why? You do not know? I’ll look for it on the internet. Yes. This was clearly created by the eruption, the one I always tell you about. And I don’t know for what strange reason the rocks were so flat on both sides. It’s narrow, it’s tall. This was the entire caldera.

We are inside the caldera. Yes, a part. This is a part of the caldera. Look how big the volcano could have been, guys. I mean, this is a part of the volcano. Guys, we’re back. Rita, shall we go? Yes. Let’s go down, guys. At least we sleep a little warmer.

And we begin to reach Los Tilos. There are other woods in the southern part of the island. And tomorrow morning Rafa will join us there. We will have lunch together. Guys, update. Of… wait. At 7.14pm. I’m lighting myself with the flashlight on my watch. And you don’t see anything the same. Eh, unfortunately…

However, appreciate what I say even without seeing me. We have no more brakes. In simple terms. Because while descending… …they melted away. …they overheated. Therefore we must, of necessity, even if we don’t know where, find a place and sleep. This island is all up and down, so… …what about the bus.

And where am I going? I can’t tempt myself to do… …descending. No, no, no. Now that we’ve stopped for a second… …and you see me… …let’s clarify the situation better. Coming down from the place where we went this morning, which was above the highest point of the island… …and then…

…it was all uphill… …very steep. Because they weren’t there… …there’s a mountain, you have to cross that one. It cannot be deviated in any other way. And as a result there was also a very steep descent. Up to here, where the brakes then blew. And dad’s foot was completely empty.

And there are still many climbs. From here all the way down. And there’s no way we can risk it. Because they are very leaning. So we are now parked in a bus spot. But you can’t. So… …I don’t know. We have to make a decision.

So, Dado was telling you, the brakes went off completely as had happened in Greece. You step on the pedal and it goes all the way down. You just have no more brakes. I had to drive with the handbrake, low gears. Everything should cool down tomorrow. They should work again. I hope.

He had done so in Greece. The next day everything worked again. At dinner, Dado and I, as always, when we eat a little more, Rita has herbal tea. We don’t give up. Don’t give up, guys. Don’t give up. We always eat. Stew that I bought this morning because we didn’t eat any.

For lunch we ate goat. And then we have green beans, potatoes. And Rafa Gave me a bottle of wine from La Palma. El Nispero. It has a wonderful color. It’s just a purplish pink. Nice tartness. I like. Guys, see you tomorrow to reach another forest.

And Rafa will join us again and we will have lunch together. Great Dado, even today you participated and fought. Good night. Good morning lads. It’s… I turn on my watch. It’s 8:02 and 40 seconds. And we are already driving. In fact we have to find a place where I can go for a

Run because here we are totally in the middle of the road. And why did we stop here? Because the brakes didn’t work, guys. Good Morning everyone friends. We stopped in the first lay-by. Available because we arrived with the handbrake. The brakes no longer worked. So this island has gone up and down tremendously.

Extremely dangerous to drive without brakes. Extremely dangerous everywhere, but especially here. So the first pitch I stopped and we slept here. But now we move on. Maybe we even do just ten minutes. I find a place to stop, where Davide can go for a jog and Rita has breakfast.

We didn’t even wash our faces. We had breakfast and are leaving. We have to pray that the brakes work because I haven’t even tried them yet. I’m going, Dado. Go. Let’s hope so. When you travel kilometers and kilometers downhill braking… These vehicles are heavy. Both the oil and the pads definitely suffer.

The system in general. Look at that road, guys. A car passed and two of us couldn’t get through. Look at that tightness. With monstrous slopes. Good thing I stopped by last night. Danger of avalanches everywhere. Look at these nets full of stones. Good thing we left yesterday. Rafa just wrote to me.

There was a 60km/h wind up in the mountains. Then 5 degrees, so they were also very cold. Oh well, six of them slept inside their camper, inside his camper. So he slept very badly. They were bad. And this morning they went out early to hike in those mountains.

And they have to return to him in the camper for lunch. So he can’t reach us here in Los Tilos where we are going. We go anyway because there are woods and beautiful waterfalls to see. I want to show them to you. And see you soon with Rafael.

21 minutes and we are in Los Tilos. Good thing the brakes are back on, guys. Plus the handbrake. Oh my God, awful. Help, let’s hope it doesn’t get tight because we can’t get back here anymore! But… How miserable. But do we go down here? Wait, I’ll come down and see.

Yes, I’ll go down and see. Oh my God, I’m going down too fast too. Too tight, too tight. Can we take this balcony? Noo Sooner or later Google will get us killed or framed because it took us down a monstrous path. All three of us are dry-mouthed, eh? Look at Dado!

Huh? But you too. Ah, a little anxiety, sure. Like when I was driving off-road, that’s it. So, one day you asked me, dad, but scared off-road? I told you, well, sometimes you had fun, sometimes I was anxious. Like now. Did you have anxiety? Yes. Eh, off-road it was like that. Worse, even.

My goodness, guys. Gigantic camper, steep mountain roads with a 20% gradient, very narrow. We’ve made it for now. Eh, guys, we just talked to a local gentleman who told us that the road to go to Los Tilos, where the waterfalls we wanted to visit were, is closed. I didn’t really understand why.

Because I’m… a landslide. A landslide and it’s… not even the goats can get there, guys. Look, guys, the carpet even goes down the slope, the carpet goes down, the battery against the fridge. The eco battery flew. Pull, pull the drum and carpet together. The battery is also heavy.

The gradient is monstrous and we made it today too , but we’re also almost ready to leave the island and go to Tenerife, guys. We have to collect some of Rita’s lenses that we ordered for glasses which are all scratched up and then we can leave.

But Rafa could also go and collect them because he also has to come to Tenerife for the carnival and could bring them there himself. We’ll see, we’ll see. Trekking shoes. Serious hiking shoes. For trekking. So after the terrible descents we relax with a nice walk in the woods. Right? Yes. Eh Dado?

All right. It’s a good idea? Because after that stress a walk isn’t bad. We had a chat with a girl who works here. They’re basically park rangers, I think. Very kind and there are several. The girl I talked to is this girl with the hat. He explained everything to me.

There is a beautiful walk to do. In two hours. An hour and an hour. Or an hour and a half and an hour and a half. Either a two-hour walk or a three-hour walk. He says it’s spectacular. We also have a brochure with all the information. Even all the plants that are found.

So great. Let’s go for a walk. Let’s go guys. We do that for an hour and an hour to get back. Two hours total. It’s not a little. Two hours of walking. Also because it’s half past ten. Half past noon. We should be in a camper. And it’s going very well.

We have lunch at one. Well anyway then we said after the anxiety of those descents. A nice regenerating and relaxing walk. The natural park promises well. Look at that vegetation. Climb everywhere. There is no road in La Palma, flat.

  3. Video spettacolare, isola molto variegata ed interessante, bel panorama, brava persona Rafael.. Per fortuna si sono raffreddati i freni.. Ed ora vedremo Tenerife.. Buona continuazione family

  4. Já deixei meu like…. Rita sempre reluzente… Valeu pelo vídeo… Diga a Raffa que o melhor carnaval é aqui no Brasil….kkkkkkkk….. Rio de Janeiro, Recife, Fortaleza, São Paulo e outros…..😂😂😂

  6. We had the Same Problem when we viseted Andora with a car and Caravan…..Very scary…. But the Veiws from the top were Amazing…. Great Video Roberto… I send you all Lots of and Best wishes…. :-)) xxx

  7. Bellisimo video, cari amici. Buona sera. A domani. Buon riposo riposo.
