The Most Fun Way to Travel Around Tokyo! (LUUP E-Scooter & E-Bike Guide)
Electric scooter and bike share has made its way to major cities in Japan Loop the largest in the market has hundreds of pickup and drop off stations within the inner WS of Tokyo I’ll leave the rest to intro me come along for the ride as I go over
The cost and the dos and don’ts of Loop Thank You intro me I wanted to use a little of it because I spent so much time on it what is loop loop is an electric scooter and Battery assisted bicycle share company that operates in these cities in Japan how do they fit into the Japanese transport model Tokyo already
Has fantastic public transport but there are locations that are poorly connected by train relatively speaking for example between shiya and doongi your fastest option with the train has a transfer or you could take a bus Loop would get you there faster and cheaper too all Loop scooters and bikes are aqua
And white and the stations are marked with aqua tape and a sign that clearly says Loop and before I forget a bit of a Japanese lesson scooters are called Kiko while bicycles are called Jan shop almost no one will understand scooter and saying biku insinuates motorcycle what do you need to ride Loop
The app can be downloaded onto your Android or Apple device English is available for my Spanish speaking viewers I’m sorry and bu once downloaded you create an account with your phone number and input your information It’ll ask for the reason for learning about Loop and then ask you to input a
Valid credit card once you’re in tap on the top left person icon and tap on preparation for scooter use for age verification input your residence card if you live in Japan or your passport if you’re here on holiday before you can ride you need to pass an 11 question test I realized
While filming this video that although the UI is in English the test is still in Japanese you have to answer all questions correctly to pass I unfortunately can’t help you so the passing is entirely up to you the test can be attempted what seems like an unlimited number of times but don’t
Quote me on that okay so you’ve passed your test and you’re ready to ride your main page will open up a map of all scooter ports click on one of the aqua ports and scroll down available scooters and bikes as well as their battery percentage and serial number are displayed tapping ride on
Your desired scooter will reopen the map to let you choose your destination port in my case my destination Port is the same as the one I’m picking it up from select your destination and your scooter will be reserved for 10 minutes if you see a little ticket on
The side of the port that means that the scooters are discounted because there are too many at that one port once you get to the port tap start riding the camera will open up find the right QR code on the handle and read it with your phone go through the screens
On your phone and start your ride your scooter will make a futuristic noise and you’re ready to go the scooter needs a rolling start so give a little kick and press down on the lever on the right side of the handle it has a small delay so prepare yourself for the
Jolt Japan drives on the left side of the road so the brakes are reversed left brake is for your back wheel and the right brake is for your front wheel the scooter has a license plate which means it is treated as a registered vehicle there are blinkers to turn left and
Right and a very loud horn H your speed and battery indicators are displayed in the middle of the handlebars when finishing a ride roll up to the port and whack that stand down press end ride on the app and it’ll prop you to take a picture okay hold
It’ll charge you your utilized amount and you’re done the bike return is done in the same way except that there’s an extra lock on the back wheel as of late 2023 for Tokyo the cost is 200 yen per 30 minutes in the Shia toal pongi case I talked about earlier
Loop is 90 Yen cheaper than the train an electric scooter is legally somewhere between a gy a moped basically and a bicycle because these scooters have a license plate make sure to follow all traffic rules such as stopping at a red light bicycles should also follow all traffic regulations but you’ll soon
Find out that most people see the rules as suggestions some easy rules to follow always ride down the left side of the road if a one-way Road has a bicycle’s okay sign electric scooters are okay to just make sure to ride on the left if
You need to turn right on a large Road you must get off the scooter and cross at a crosswalk you could ride these on any public roads within Loop’s jurisdiction but I’d recommend avoiding these multi-lane ring roads because the speed difference is very large lastly as
Many of you might know riding Under the Influence is strictly prohibited I’d recommend everyone to give Loop a try Tallyho and stay safe while riding around town
This video goes over the most prominent E-Scooter and E-Bike Share company in Japan. In some cases, E-Scooters are faster than the train and you can avoid the crowds too!
