Off Road in Slovenia! | West Loop & Ljubljana | Bikepacking Across Europe Ep.14
We are bike packing 2500 M across Europe from London to Istanbul Turkey in this video we continue our travels in slovania as we take our journey Offroad on the West Loop route it’s definitely the more adventurous way as we make our way towards lublana the largest city in slania we also camp
In one of the strangest places of our trip so far all right guys we are leaving the lovely Guest House we’ve been staying at for the last couple days with the sweetest owner who gave us a little souvenir pen for our journey she thinks what we’re doing is crazy but we are now
Going to head out we’re going to just head somewhere between here and Lana so it’s not going to be a crazy long day but I think we’re going to take a lot of the gravel roads so we’re going to be following kind of loosely the bikepacking.com West Loop in slania for
Part of the time and there’s some cool churches to check out along the way and I think we’ll probably just try to Camp outside the city [Applause] cornfield so even with that day off my legs are still so sore my butt’s doing much better though like my saddle Source hello sadle SW are doing much better look how cute these country little Villages Are can we go Around okay thank you thanks so Sylvania had some really bad storms and there’s been lots of wash outs we were a little worried about that coming here knowing we wanted to do some of these more remote Trails Thanks it’s definitely the more adventurous way So it’s been really kind of fun going through these little Country Roads we’ve seen like no other cyclists some of them are really rough but it’s been just kind of a fun change and now we come across some llamas I think their alpacas or alpacas whatever they are they’re cute [Applause] Fing so one of the things that really annoys me about the app kote is that if I tell it I want to take a gravel route it will find just the smallest paths even if they’re only like 100 m take us off of this road just to go on this tiny
Path that’s that’s gravel and then bring us right back to the same Road I guess we’re taking the adventurous Route [Applause] be careful Here this a really rough roads we’re going basically half the speed that we were before can someone tell me what these things are we see them everywhere here in Sania I don’t know what they’re used For so cute we’re in the cute town of Scopia Loca and I was reading that it’s one of the oldest towns here in Sylvania and it’s like medieval it was a little bit out of the way to come to here but I’m glad we stopped it’s very cute so far
And we’re going to check out the castle now The Loca Castle sits a top a hill of this cute medieval Town shofia Loca originally constructed in 122 it has since been restored after an earthquake in the 1600s we are camping inside of a bar right now so so this is maybe the strangest place that we’ve camped so far
After we went and checked out that castle we saw this place on the map where you can park your camper for a night and I talked to the bartender and to see if we could camp here and he said yeah you can and so we just came here thinking we were just
Going to camp in this field by the river but he was like if you want you can just Camp here on the deck and it’s just so strange but it’s like such a nice campsite he even gave us like this this cord coiled up so that we can
Electricity at night it’s like super nice and it’s he’s not charging as anything so it’s it’s really Insane it is day 38 of our trip here we are in Sylvania we woke up from our little campsite at this bar and we were going to head out to the day it’s a really short day we’re only going about 14 miles to Lana and then we’re going to
Explore there for the day feels like another phase of our trip is starting things are going to start to get a little bit more wild and rugged I think from here on out once we pass Lana and I’m looking forward to It It’s a beautiful morning here it’s nice and quiet we got out a little bit earlier than we usually do actually quite a bit earlier than we usually do and I’m definitely noticing in these Treetops we’re seeing some yellows and oranges so fall is definitely on the Way I love going through these small little towns in the morning there’s like no traffic and there’s always a Church on the Hill in each of these towns which seems very Syian entering Lana London London yeah we’re going to how long ago about 5 weeks ago weeks ago very good foreks what is your final destination oh so how are you going to go thank you you in your youres thank you so much by bye bye-bye we might need
A minute to grab stuff is it okay if we uh just organize okay cuz I want to get out of my biking clothes I think don’t want to smell too sweaty when we’re exploring All right guys we’re doing a little bit of exploration here in lubiana and starting with this Dragon Bridge built in the 1900 all right guys we’re at this place that has serves traditional slan food which I’m really excited about out so I always create a list every time I go to a new country of foods to try and this place had three of them so we’re going
To try three we have reset re Reet I’m going to put it all on the screen cuz I’m going to butcher every single one of these names and then we have h y y Alex should really be doing this and then we have something else coming I’m going to
Try the Reet Alex will try the hot so it’s essentially a barley soup vegetable soup oh I like that very hearty lots of barley beans super good all right I’m turning the Yola it looks like it has like sauerkraut and is that sauerkraut yeah I think it has sauerkraut and potatoes and
Beans well that has a very unique flavor I like it I think it it’s really good it’s different than I would have expected is it sour uh yeah it’s got a little bit of sourness from the sauerkraut but it’s good still both of these dishes usually come with sausage
But we are not going to be eating that so but you can always get that if you want all right look who we have back with us y just for a short time but better short time than never yeah he’s heading heading to Zagreb today on a
Train is that right or yeah Zagreb on the train yeah that’s correct and then and then not sure we see how it goes um so he got something traditional here too looks really good it’s like sauerkraut sausage and mustard I Think how is it like traveling with a bunch of YouTubers it’s amazing I feel like a drama queen [Laughter] Noing after checking out a couple of churches including this beautiful lublana cathedral we headed back to our hotel for the Night we just went to a bike shop to purchase a smoke wrench and the guy literally just gave us the smoke wrench for free when you part of our turnour people can be really awesome it’s crazy we’re going to owe lots of karmic debt after this
Trip you I out could be around here somewhere you think this is a water felon this isn’t a water fountain is it it is nuh-uh they have water fountains all over lublana and they have this this app that tells you where they are and there’s a picture of this on the app so
This is fresh drinking water it has the kangaroo and everything yeah what that’s so weird do want to explain to the people why we’re leaving at 5:00 p.m. really this comes down to us being indecisive and being too tired to get our buts moving this morning so now it’s 5:00 and we’re
Retired so I think we’re just going to go to a campground that’s 15 miles away Given the late hour we needed to quickly pitch our tent for the night find us our home speed home for the night yeah wild camping again it’s not even 8:00 yet and it’s already crazy dark so you just had to pitch up a tent here good morning guys I’d love to know
If this happens in your relationship Alex refuses to let me do anything he just takes over and I try to do it I’ve also tried to take more weight he refuses oh my goodness do you have anything to say for yourself look at this what is it is that a nail it’s a
Nail something like that in my tire yeah holy smokes well you said you wanted more weight I didn’t want more weight I just didn’t want you to have more weight you have like all the fruit if I take a picture oh sure i’ have to show my my son how it’s

Love it! Great videos. I am bikepaking for 35 years, too. Looking forward to the next episode. Did you go to the Skocjanske Jame Caves near Divaca? Def. a must see in southern Slovenia. Greets from Graz.

Slovenia is beautiful!
I'm all but given up on Komoot – between weird algorithm things like you shared, it also doesn't 'check' crowd-sourced ideas. Nearby me this means visiting cyclists are directed down a busy dangerous road (which 3 cyclists have died on) – yet parallel is a traffic free National Cycle Route. I've emailed Komoot and they refuse to act.
Lol! I saw those fence-type things on a challenge on the Amazing Race! They use them to dry hay.
What happens with your bodys. Have your bodies changed after somany days of exercise
Loving this series. Slovenia Tourist people owe you for the good PR for their country!
They remind me of tobacco drying racks in my grandad’s barn, but weren’t so tightly spaced. I’d guess they’re drying racks for something to drape over. At first I thought grape or muscadine trellis, but not with a roof. Now I want to know, too! 🤔
Just a question you did a tradition panniers rear rack setup .. why you didnt use a full bikepacking setup .. was thier advantages of using traditional rear panniers setup over bikepacking setup
Love your videos!
