Can I cross into Thailand? | Pakistan to Malaysia & Thailand
So this temple and its Pagodas were built here in the year 1900. We’ll try to cross the Thailand border today. The process of entry in Thailand is a little different from the other countries. This was the first border crossing were all the formalities were done so quickly.
This is a very famous floating market here. We are getting all types of foods in this floating market. So this is a food market. Our first dish here is spicy fish. There are such food items lying around here that I have never seen before.
Earlier I was saying that Malaysian food is different, but here it is even more different. Assalamalaikum and good morning from George Town. In Malaysia. Today I’m starting the video directly from the motorcycle,
Because we have to checkout the George Town city as we couldn’t explore it properly as it became dark yesterday night. So we have to first have our breakfast, then explore the city, and then we will continue our journey forward. We’ll try to get as close as possible to Thailand’s border.
After that we’ll decide about where to go next. So our aim is that we explore Thailand in the next 2-3 days as we are so close to it. Then we’ll again enter Malaysia through the East Coast and go back to Kuala Lumpur. So that is our plan.
Today’s plan is we’ll first explore George Town, then have our breakfast, and then we’ll continue towards the border. We will possibly cross the border today, otherwise tomorrow, so we’ll try to reach Bangkok by tomorrow evening. It is 8:30 in the morning right now.
The weather is very good now, it was raining last night. We have cool breeze blowing now, so it is fun to ride. I found George Town very beautiful. It’s historic centre is quite old and very nice, so we’ll now go there to check it out.
Look at the cleanliness here. It is very clean. It is Saturday so there is no much traffic, and it is very peaceful. Palm trees around us, and the cleanliness, I am enjoying it. We’re now in the historic centre of George Town. What I saw and liked here last night was that
On one side we have mosque, on the other we have Hindu temple, Buddhist temple on other, and then Church on one side. So people of all 3-4 religions are living here very peacefully. Also, the Chinese festival that I saw here last night…
As I showed you yesterday that my friend Anthony offered us Mooncake in Ipoh, so that is the part of Chinese festival celebrated here, and that festival was being celebrated here last night, There…you can call him a Chinese priest, so he was sitting there and giving amulets etc.
Just like they give amulets in our Pakistan. So he was sitting there and doing some magic, and I guess was predicting the futures of the people. Seeing him was quite interesting too. Whoa…this is an old building. It looks like some church which is now abandoned.
In front of it is this mosque here. It is quite old mosque. We have another church in front of us here. This is the reason it is called World Heritage Site because this is the historic centre and the buildings here are dating back to 19th and 20th century here.
This looks interesting to me here. Bananas and with that…no idea what he is making here. Let’s check this out. Salaam. What are you making? What is this? -Pancake. -Pancake? How many of them? -5 pieces in one packet. How many do you want? -One packet 5 pieces? Okay, I want one packet.
-Okay…5 dollars. -5 dollars? -Yeah. -Or do you mean 5 Ringgits? -Yeah…5 Ringgits. These are local traditional Pancakes. -Oh okay, they are local traditional Pancakes. So how do you make them? -We use rice. We use rice to make the raw material, that’s the batter. -Okay.
It has 5 pieces in it, and costs 5 Ringgits. Very good. This is… Let’s see what is inside this. -It has corn inside… -Banana. -Banana and corn. It has corn and banana inside it. Something different. -This is different. -So you add the pieces of bananas? -Yeah, banana slices.
This is a Thai Buddhist temple. Oh it is on both the sides. Is it Chinese or Thai on this side? I guess it is Thai on both the sides. Oh okay, it is Burmese Buddhist temple on this side, and it is Thai Buddhist temple on this side. Wow.
Let’s go inside and check them out. Uh-huh…it is a Hindu temple. Look at the diversity. This is so beautiful. This temple was built in the year 1900, when Queen Victoria granted the land… I mean when her East India company representative here, W.L. Butterworth granted this land to them.
So this temple and its Pagodas were built here in the year 1900. I think this large structure that we see there is called Pagoda, and then we also have smaller Pagodas here. So this temple has been here since 1900, so it is 123 years old as of now(2023).
We’re now entering into this Burmese Buddhist temple. One difference that I found here between Burmese and Thai Buddhist temple here is that… Hello. There are no Pagodas here. We do have this beautiful temple building here, but here we don’t have Pagodas like they were everywhere in the Thai temple.
So I guess Pagodas are the symbol of Thai Buddhist temples. I am seeing these kind of statues/structures here. We are seeing two different temples here on the same road, and both of them are Buddhist temples. Today I understood why we have different hand position in different Buddha statues.
Every statue has a different meaning. Like this statue here and the hand position of Buddha shows that Buddha is stopping the elephant from killing the kid. That elephant is being stopped. So the position of the hands of Buddha is based on Legends(Stories).
Just like Buddha in this image is sitting here and preaching. Similarly, the different statues that are made, and the position of their hands in it, so every hand position depicts different legends of him. So I guess dragon has high importance in the Burmese culture and tradition.
As you see, there were dragons outside, and if you see inside here, this hand position of Buddha shows that he is sitting here and preaching, and the two disciples beside him and the others are worshiping him, but Buddha is sitting here and preaching.
So I now understood what the different hand positions of Buddha statues meant. Dragon plays a significant role in Burmese culture and tradition. It has a very overwhelming role. It is very interesting that you are seeing two different cultures on the same street,
And you are learning two different things here within like few metres. Where are we now? I was intending to go to the old houses. Uh…there they are. We were supposed to go there. Okay… Well guys, it started raining while we were sightseeing. It is raining quite heavily.
Anyways, there are places around to eat something, so we’ll stop here and have some breakfast, and wait for the rain to stop. It is raining so heavily here. What is this? Is it something sweet? Something sweet…what sweet do you have? -You want to eat?
-I want something sweet. -No, we don’t have sweet. Eat salty. -Eat salty? -Yeah. -Okay… Okay…thank you. Well, we’re now in the Chinese area. It is called Chew Jetty area, and there are old houses here. They are very old and made of Tin, so they are rusted,
And as I showed you, they look very beautiful from the top. Almost all are Chinese here, especially we have Chinese food. We have ordered this soup here. It is a vegetable soup with noodles. Let’s eat this. It is a Chinese food day today. This is authentic Chinese food. Mm…
It’s really good. I’ve also ordered this juice. It is some honey-lemon juice. Good. The rain has kind of stopped so I’ve now wrapped myself and come out, hoping that even if it rains again, we won’t face any disturbance.
So we’re now in the city centre of old town of George Town. You’ll see that the buildings around are of olden style. They have a similar style but are of different colours. Looks nice… looks beautiful. We’re now trying to find Little India. So let’s go and check out Little India.
We couldn’t explore it properly in the night. Yeah… We see the desi style as soon as we enter in here. We have different Indian style dresses here, we have Indian shops selling spices, we also have some restaurants. We also have one gold shop here…jewellery shop.
So if you wanna find anything which is Indian, you can come here. Masala chai(tea). This is amazing. Also we have strong fragrance of incense sticks here. You can be an Indian outside of India. We also have parathas here. Samosa…well, we will have to eat samosa here.
Well, how can we have fun without having samosa here, how is it possible that we are in India and not even have Samosa. What is this? -Samosa. -Yeah. -And Dal Vadi(Lentil Fritters). -Dala Vadi? -Yeah. -Okay then one Dal Vadi…I will eat here. Can I eat here? -Yeah.
-Okay, one Dala Vadi and one Samosa. -One Samosa? Chicken? Egg? Fish? -Uh…fish. -And one Pakora. Is that Pakora? -Onion ball. -Onion ball? -Yeah, onion ball. -Okay. Yeah. -3 Ringgits. -3 Ringgits? Okay. So these are… -Onion ball. -Onion ball? Okay…onion ball. There are onions in it. It is very tasty.
-What was this? Dal Vadi? -Yeah, Dal Vadi. -Okay…Dal Vadi. Let’s now taste fish samosa. So Little India is located on the Queen Street. The Queen Street. We also have one temple here. There are so many varieties of food items here which I’ve never eaten before.
Infact, I’ve never even seen them before. There is a mosque on my left hand side here. Even this was built during British Raj. This one here is a fire brigade station. They’ve built it in red so that it can be identified from a distance that it is a fire brigade.
Well then…Bismillah Ir Rahman Ir Raheem. Let’s pray Bismillah and start our journey towards Thailand. There is a Thailand city which is around 100 Km far from the border named Songkhla. So we’ll try to cross the Thailand border today…
But because I am riding a rental bike so we will need some extra documents which I’ve already got. Documents like…a front and back copy of the ID of the owner of the bike, their authority letter, that is an NOC permitting me to take the bike out of the country, and…
I already have that letter. Then we also need a print of the documents of the bike. So I’ll now go to a printing shop and we’ll get them printed, and then we will hit the road towards Thailand.
It is 1:30 in the afternoon right now, so I think it will be 2 O’clock by the time we exit from here. So our today’s journey is of around 350 km. We’ll once again cross another over sea bridge from George Town.
After crossing the bridge we’ll go towards the north, towards Thai border, Inshallah. Hopefully our border crossing will be smooth, and we’ll reach Songkhla by evening. Bangkok is around 1100 Km from here, so I’m thinking that, depending on the road condition,
We’ll go there and check the road condition, and if the road condition is good, we’ll try to reach Bangkok tomorrow so that we have 1 day to explore Bangkok and we stay there, and then we’ll start back the tour towards the South Coast of Malaysia.
But if the roads of Thailand won’t be good, then we’ll maybe not go to Bangkok too. Then we’ll only explore the Southern part of Thailand, and maybe we’ll go towards Ko Samui from there, and then we’ll come back to Malaysia from the East Coast. So that’s the plan.
Just pray that the roads of Thailand will be good so that we can reach Bangkok tomorrow. Look at that man on the motorcycle there, or maybe a woman, he/she has worn the shirt in reverse manner so that it will protect them from the mud/smoke coming from the front.
Almost everybody do the same here. Even if it rains a little they do this, just like her in the front here, even she is setting her jacket/pullover, whatever it is.
So they wear it in a reverse manner so that they are protected from the rain/dust/smoke and their original shirt beneath it does not spoil. I decided to start the journey and the rain has attacked us. It suddenly started to rain so heavily that it is watery everywhere.
Well, the rain has stopped now but I’ve packed myself. So I’m feeling a little hot because of that. [Prayer for a safe journey] Clouds are right in front of you, we’ve got petrol filled and we’re now starting from here.
It is for the first time that we’re starting so late for such a long journey. It is around a 250 Km journey and the maps show me an ETA of 4.5 to 5 hours.
We can take it as 6 hours because we have to even cross the border on the way. Hopefully everything will go smooth, and we’ll reach there peacefully. The winds have gotten strong and it feels like we will see another rain storm ahead.
Let’s see, we’ll continue the journey if it goes on in a smooth manner, otherwise we’ll stop wherever the night falls. Today’s day is very tricky, because the border is not very far from here,
But if I cross the border and it starts raining, then I won’t have a SIM card, I won’t even have internet, so navigation will become tough for me. The rain starts and stops again and again, and I’m repeatedly taking off and putting on my rain gear.
I was riding quite fast and then I saw this Thailand insurance on the way. So I’ve now stopped here to get the insurance done. The process of entry in Thailand is a little different from the other countries. You have two-three different forms here.
You can either download them online and fill them before-hand, otherwise you can fill them here at this insurance office. One of them is a TM-6 form. It is for the passengers, and then the TM-2 form. So this is the TM-2 form. Tm-2 form is for your vehicle.
You’ll also need TM-3 form if you’re more than 1 passenger, but because I’m riding alone, I do not need TM-3. So I only need TM-2 and TM-6, and the rest of the documents. I’ve got the insurance done here and it costed me 65 Ringgits (13 Euros) for 3 months,
Well, I’ll be here only for a week, but here they have insurance for a minimum of 3 months, so I got that done, we’ve also filled all the forms, so hopefully it will be a little easy for us on the border ahead.
Well guys, I’ve completed all the preparations from my side for the entry in Thailand, luckily, I saw the insurance office here and decided to get the insurance done here.
He said me that we would require this ahead, so they made me all the forms, and this will save our time at the border. I read earlier about TM-2 and TM-3 online, but I was like I will fill it once we go there, but I totally forgot about it.
Thankfully I stopped there for insurance, so hopefully our job will get easy now. Let’s now see how long it takes at the border. Border is around 30-35 Km away from here. It is not raining as of now, so I’ve taken off all my rain gear.
You cannot tell anything about the rain or weather here. You are riding normally like this, and all of a sudden it starts raining heavily from some clouds. The rain then stops in a minute, then it keeps doing the same again and again. There was only this check-point of the police.
There is a lot of convenience here for bikers. They don’t get troubled. They have this separate lane only for the bikers. I’ll have top stop here and take out my Passport. We have to take all the safety measures here because of the rain. Hello sir. -Hello. Austria? -Yes.
-Where are you heading? -To Bangkok. -Bangkok? -Yes. -By bike? -Yes. Both of them? -Yes. -Okay. Thank you very much sir. That was all on the Malaysian side. This is called a fun exit. There is no requirement to unload the bike, show the luggage, show other things.
He took the Passport, put an exit stamp on it, and that was all !! Well guys, we see the Thailand flag. Some people are crossing the border by walk. Okay…enter Thailand… Where is the immigration box here? We go inside there? Okay. Okay. Oh this is insurance okay.
-Yeah, this one. -This one? -Yes. -Okay, thank you. Well guys, welcome to Thailand. As soon as we enter here we have this huge market here where we can get all types of SIM cards. I think I’ll get a SIM card from here before I face any problems ahead.
Thailand’s No.1 tourist SIM card. This was the first border crossing were all the formalities were done so quickly. On the Malaysia side they just checked the Passport, put the exit stamp and it and it was done within no time.
Then I was on the Thailand side, and all the documents were already ready. I first got the immigration done. Because I did not require VISA at immigration as I have a VISA free entry for 15 days.
If we come by air, then we have 30 days VISA free entry for the European Passport, and if we come by land then we have 15 days VISA free entry. WELCOME TO THAILAND !! It was for the first time that I had to give my fingerprints at the border.
I had to give my fingerprints here because I came here for the first time. Anyways, when the immigration was done, it was the customs next. Because I already had all the Customs documents, they then got the entry done, and then after the entry…
He got the entry done at one counter, gave the form, filled it, and on the next counter he got the counter check done, and then took my signatures on it, and that was all !! It took me a maximum of around 30-40 minutes for the entire process.
Very efficient border crossing, and as soon as I crossed the border, SIM card was available. You don’t need any registration for the SIM card. So I got the SIM card for 1 week I guess. It has unlimited data and it costed around 5-6 Euros. That’s it.
Because it is weekend today… it is Saturday, so the immigration officers charges 50 cents more which was around 2 Ringgits as they had to work extra. Otherwise, if you come on a week day, you do not have to extra, but anyways, 2 Ringgits is just like 50 Cents.
This is beautiful Thailand !! Wow. We have reached here on time, because when I started from George Town, I took highway instead of back roads, and we came quite fast on the highway. Because, also the weather was bad, so that’s the reason. Now we are in Thailand already.
I can’t believe that we’ve done so much here already. Within 1 hour, all the works are done. There is so much flexibility here. It is not even like if we will be stuck if we don’t have dollars or euros here.
Because, I had Ringgits with me and I paid them in Ringgits where I took the SIM card from. Otherwise at many places they tell us to pay in dollars or their own currency, and then we face some problem. But here it is very tourist friendly, very efficient,
Very efficient I would say. I think it was our fastest border crossing here. And…here we have our first Buddha statue and first Buddha temple. So now we have around 66 Km more to go. There is a place Hat Yai. Hat Yai…maybe I’m pronouncing it in the right way.
So we’ll stay there for tonight and then we’ll try to start early in the morning, Inshallah, because Bangkok is very far from here, it is around 700-800 Km, so tomorrow will be a very long day. What is this city? What is the name of this city? -Sadao. -Sadao. -Sadao? -Yes. -Okay.
Well, I did not understand what is the name of this city that they said, but… but the city is looking small and good. Another Buddhist temple. Guys, there is a 180 degree contrast in the lifestyle of here and the lifestyle of Malaysia.
The lifestyle here…we can see that there is poverty here. Looking at the houses on the roadside and the people I see around, it feels like the lifestyle here is very simple. Totally new world. Also the language here is new. We will not understand the alphabets of here.
Another thing I can see here are these cables. Numerous cables here just like we saw in Bangladesh. But more than that…these tall poles here on both the sides of the road… These are the electricity poles. They’re so tall. So electricity is distributing in this manner here.
I’m seeing many such carts here attached to the bikes. Some people are using them like their moving shop, moving cart wherein they sell things, and some people use it like this for transportation, just like this entire family I guess in front of us is going.
What is this in the bag? Can I eat it like this? Yeah? I don’t know what this is. Let me check. Even here we have so friendly people. Even here we are seeing different varieties of trees and temples hidden behind them, just like that temple hidden behind these trees.
It is looking very beautiful. One room…yes. -For one person? -Yes, one person. I called you, right? -Yeah. Secret bath. -Hmm? -Secret bath. -Secret bath? -Yes. -Where is the secret bath? -Yes… -Big size…small size is full. -Small size if full? -Yes. -Big size… -So this is big size? -Yes. -Where is it?
-One, two and three. You pay now. -I pay now? -Yes. -I have to go to ATM to get the cash. -Oh…to get the cash? -Okay? -Okay. -It’s one, two, three… -Okay. -The next lane? -Yes. -Okay. -Okay… This looks like a good place, we also have a parking here.
It is like some lake built here I guess… and around them are like some restaurants, or maybe even they are some rooms I think. Well, let’s go and checkout our room. Let’s see. Wow!! I got it for a very less price. It is like one flat here.
We have this huge double bed here, we have a TV here playing kick boxing right now, this is the bathroom, and guess how much would this have costed. What do you think? It is maximum for 15 euros. Even less than 15, maybe 13-14 euros I think. Not bad.
We also have water here. We have 2 water bottles here. What do we have in mini bar? Is there anything in mini bar? Mini bar is empty. But we have water here. It is around 9 O’clock in the night and the life here is fully active.
Even at 9 O’clock in the night !! This is a very famous floating market here. We are getting all types of foods in this floating market. So this is a food market. So the people are sitting here and enjoying different varieties of foods.
No idea where they all come from, or maybe their boats are fixed here. Hello. Here he has something on banana leaf I guess. Wow !! Here they’ve used bamboos in different ways. Wow. They say that this floating market is here since many years. Look at the rush here.
As we already arranged our hotel, I was like why not we explore this market. Let’s eat something here and see what food we get here. Fish Maw Soup. Is this chicken? -Yeah. -Chicken? -Yes, chicken. -And what is this here? It is also chicken? -No, no…it is not chicken. It is spicy fish.
-Spicy fish? -Yeah. -That’s fish? -Yeah. -Okay. Can I have one of this please? -One? -You’re looking beautiful with the cap. -Yeah… -And what is this? Chicken? -Yes, it is chicken. -Okay, I will also take one of this please. How much? -30. -30? Okay… -Chilli sauce. -Chilli sauce? -Yes. -Okay. -Okay… -Thank you.
How much? -30 baht. -30 baht? -Yes. -Okay. -What is this? -Coconut Pancake. -Coconut Pancake? -Yeah. -Yeah? Then give it to me. -20 baht for one. -20 baht? -Yeah. -One piece or one… -One minute… One set. -One set? -Yeah. -Okay. -Okay? -Coconut Pancake…okay, give it to me. -Yeah… -Whoa…that looks good.
So how much do I take now? 30, 60, oh 20, okay 80. How much is this? 500? 6, 7, 8, 9, 20 okay… -Chicken? -Yeah…I have chicken. Thank you. We’ve bought three different varieties of food for 80 baht, so it has costed us around…
35 baht is one euro, so we have 3 varieties of food for 2.5 euros. Now we’ll sit somewhere, eat them, and see how they taste. Our first meal in Thailand. Water? Litchi? Okay give me anything. -Coconut? -Coconut? -What is this? -Orange. -What is that one? -Tea. -What? -Tea. -Lemon tea?
Ah tea? -Yes. -Okay give me the tea please. This one…yeah. Wow. Okay… So our first dish is spicy fish. It is in this bamboo box. No idea how he did this here, but let’s try this and see how it tastes. Not bad. Well, it is spicy, but it also has coconut,
It has fish mixed in it, I think he added the keema (minced meat) of fish in it. Really tasty. Next item is chicken. It is normal chicken, but we have chilli sauce with it. It is very crispy. Very tasty. Then we have this Coconut Pancake. Let’s try this one.
Mm…this is the best. I like it. Coconut Pancake…it’s sweet. This is our tea. Yeah…normal milk tea. But it is more sweet. Are you Muslim? -Yeah, Muslim. -Yeah? From where? From Hat Yai? -We’re all Muslim. -You’re all Muslim? From which area? Hat Yai? In which part are there more Muslims here? -Buddhists…
-All…Buddhists, Muslims… -Yeah? Everybody is here? I was coming here, there are many Muslims in this area. Well, Many Buddhists too, and I also saw many Muslims. These people sitting around me are Muslims too, but I don’t know where have they come from.
I’m not able to find which city are they from, but if you look here, you’ll see many Muslims wandering here. Almost…majority of the people here are Muslims I guess. We also have a fixed market up here and we are getting fresh mangoes here. I don’t know what this is.
What is this? -Longkong. -What? -Longkong. -Longkong? -Yeah. It is a Thai fruit. -Also Mango? -No, it is Longkong, taste it. -I can taste it? -Yeah. -But they’re not clean. Can I wash it? How do you eat them? I never had this? Is this kind of Litchi? Litchi? -No. -No Litchi. -Not Litchi? Okay.
-Longkong. -Longkong? -Yeah, Longkong. Thai fruit. -Thailand? -Yeah. -I never had this before, it is for the first time. -Yeah, this is Longkong from Thailand. -Do you have mango juice? No mango juice? -No…no mango juice. -Okay…thank you. -Banana chips. -What? -Banana chips. -No. Here it is like a complete heaven.
Wow…we have different kind of corn. Hello. Are these the pakoras of here or what? Wow…we have more mangoes here. Wow…look at this here. I have no idea what all they have here. This is a new way to make something.
There are such food items lying around here that I have never seen before. Earlier I was saying that Malaysian food is different, but here it is even more different. So this was our day today, wherein we crossed the border, saw the floating market,
And before that we explore the George Town city. I liked the floating market the most in it. You tell me what did you like the most in today’s video. Was it the border crossing? Or the bridge which we crossed? Or it was the floating market for you too?
Please write it down in the comments. We’ll now plan for the morning. We’ll decide where to go, and when to go. I hope you liked the day today. If you liked it, as always, please give it a like, subscribe and share, and then I’ll see you tomorrow from Hat Yai…
Or Yat Hai. Anyways, whatever this city is. Until then, Take care, and Assalamalaikum 🙂
