Silent hike from Hammersbach to Hupfleitenjoch via Höllentalklamm in Zugspitze area Bavaria, Germany

⬇️ DETAILED INFORMATION ABOUT THIS HIKE IS IN THE DESCRIPTION ⬇️
Embark on an amazing trail in the Zugspitze region, home to Germany’s highest peak, through the captivating Höllentalklamm gorge.

➡️ How to get there. Our journey commenced with a standard train ride from Munich to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, a route that operates frequently from the Munich main station and is conveniently covered by the Deutschland Ticket. Upon arrival in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, a transfer to another train station was necessary, where the mountain train line operates.

Remarkably, we enjoyed the mountain train for free, courtesy of the Deutschland Ticket, which covers the fare up to Eibsee. We rode this train all the way to Hammersbach train station, our chosen point of ascent for the adventure.

➡️ The hike begins in a quaint city, guiding you through enchanting forests alongside a stunning mountain river adorned with incredible colors. Then, leads you to the breathtaking Höllentalklamm Gorge, also known as the Hell Valley Gorge. The advancing and retreating glaciers carved valleys and left behind rocky formations, contributing to the gorge’s dramatic appearance. Millennia of continuous water flow have further sculpted the landscape, resulting in the deep and narrow gorge we witness today.
Don’t forget your rain jacket, it is a very wet place 😄
The entrance costs 6 Euro and must be paid in cash.

➡️ Prepare yourself for demanding terrain, particularly as you navigate the rocky section in the latter part of the hike beyond the Höllentalangerhütte. I highly recommend wearing sturdy hiking shoes for a more comfortable and secure experience.

➡️ Reach the ultimate summit at Hupfleitenjoch, towering at 1750m. The descent back to Hammersbach is steep and, in wet conditions, could pose a considerable challenge.
