I’m going to Yokohama today It’s a city about an hour away from Tokyo by train I got off at Bashamichi station near the center of Yokohama where you can see the Landmark Tower and the Ferris wheel. Can you see the ropeway in the distance? It’s a ropeway that was built in 2021
You can see some houseboats getting ready to open for business. The city of Yokohama, with a population of about 3.7 million the second largest city in Japan after Tokyo But since look at it as a metropolitan city The second largest city would generally be Osaka
There is the Yokohama Port Museum in front of the Land Mart Tower One large sailing ship The Nippon Maru, a sailing ship built in 1930 Sailing ship served as a training sailboat for sailors. There is a tour of the ship and the museum. The beautifully preserved sailing ship is
The ship sailed 1.83 million kilometers, or about 44 circumnavigations of the earth! We also operate a marine classroom. They say it’s a place where a lot of the public visits Walking around the sailboat and moving toward Sakuragicho station
There’s an image of the city that comes to mind when you think of Yokohama, isn’t there? Probably the image of Sakuragicho here A place to stop when starting a trip in the heart of Yokohama Japan’s first railroad line ran from here to Shimbashi We stopped briefly to see the new ropeway
I got a combination ticket for the ropeway and the Ferris wheel. I’m going to take the ropeway, which is not in my plans, lol. One way set fare is 1,500 yen for adults Looks like a lot of families Right outside JR Sakuragicho station
A 630-meter ropeway that crosses over to the “Canal Park Station”, one way Now – let’s take the ropeway! It’s just a short ride to the new port right next door I’m taking pictures of the view. Before I know it, I can see the arrival station Arrived really quickly lol Canal Park(Canal Park) station
If you ride at night, you can enjoy the night view It looks like there is one more thing to look forward to in Yokohama lol It connects to the shopping mall right from the station Looks like they even have a good traffic flow plan This is “Yokohama World Porters”
This is a general shopping mall operated by Aeon Mall Right next to the shopping mall is “Yokohama Cosmo World” The Ferris wheel that often appears in photos of Yokohama It was the one in this amusement park. There’s more playground equipment than I thought there would be.
I thought there was a Ferris wheel between the buildings. I’ve never been here before. Roller coaster is out of service Ferris wheel is very popular and we had to wait quite a while About 20 minutes? Okay, I’ll get on it. Nice view, right? But it’s a little windy
One of the four foreigners who came with a group of friends behind you You’re riding with a tight grip on the handlebars. You repeatedly stop because of the wind At the top you can really break out in a cold sweat lol; Ahhhh I made it down safely
I have to admit I was a little scared By the way, I am afraid of heights and long things (snakes) Amusement park with so much fun indoors too! One of the most impressive pieces of playground equipment is this It is a VR experience playground equipment.
It’s a ride with a big gap between participants and spectators Because anyone can enter the park You might feel free to stop by while you’re taking a walk I’m going to walk towards Yamashita Park Interesting round overpass above the intersection. And the red brick warehouse popular with tourists
That building that used to be a warehouse It’s also a historical building that used to be the transportation center of Yokohama This building was once used as a customs house and has been renovated Opened its doors to foreign countries in earnest. They say the building was built in the 19th century
Various stores, cafes, restaurants and Event space here now That painting is by a Portuguese-Chinese artist The painting was by “Bibi Lei”. It seems to be a work about innocent and pure children! If you cross this little railroad bridge from here in Shinko It leads inland again We’ve reached the Yokohama Customs Museum
Minato Odori avenue lined with beautiful ginkgo trees It’s winter, but I walk along the ginkgo trees that have not yet fallen Kanagawa prefectural government building There are many exotic buildings Beautiful street trees, too. Here in Yokohama Kannai, on Nihon-dori It’s a really nice place to take a walk There’s a Chinatown nearby… Yokohama has Chinese culture and Western culture
And even the unique Japanese culture mixed together I think it’s a city where various cultures are in harmony We’ve come to the entrance of Yamashita Park. The ship in the distance is the NYK Hikawamaru You can also see the Hotel New Grand built after the port opened including the Kobe-Seattle line in 1930
Passenger ships crossing the Pacific Ocean Now permanently docked and used as a museum We are now heading to Chinatown. It feels like Chinatown from the entrance. After the Port of Yokohama opened, Chinese merchants began to settle here The Chinese began to build a community of Chinese people This is where Chinatown began
It seems like Chinatowns are forming everywhere in open ports There is a Chinatown in Kobe, Japan They say Yokohama Chinatown is the biggest in Japan There aren’t many Chinatowns in the world that are this big. They have about 500 stores here. Lots of food From barbecue Xiaolongbao
Panda bread, Peking duck, tapioca bubble tea, egg tarts, moon cakes, etc. Lots of people walking around tasting this and that Lots of cheap all-you-can-eat restaurants have opened I personally recommend specialty restaurants Because there are many good restaurants if you look hard enough I’ve already decided which restaurant I’m going to go to today
This is the restaurant I wanted to come to Here it is. I came here at opening time. There is already a long queue Pork marinated in sauce and grilled over an open hearth Chinese dish called chashu in Japan. So it’s called “char siu.”
We waited about 30 minutes and then we were ushered in The whole building is this restaurant They say each floor has a different atmosphere I see that guests who don’t have reservations are on the first floor I wanted to try the roasted goose, but it’s already sold out
Ordered char siu pork belly roast with skin And a bottle of Shaoxing wine Oh – nice visuals! Shaoxing wine with a little sugar Here we go, cheers! The meat is delicious with mustard on it! And chashu pork Ahhh, the chewiness is different It’s delicious …. Really.
It tastes even better with veggies too lol Sometimes they top the ramen with chashu pork… It’s a different feel than the chashu you get here. After marinating the pork in special soy sauce for about three days It’s a tedious dish, skewered and roasted on a brazier
I just ordered another plate of chashu pork sweet and spicy soy sauce flavor with a hint of octagon The crunchy texture calls for alcohol. Stir-fried squid With Chinese soy sauce called “Touchi” seasoned with soy sauce. Unique aroma and The crunchiness of the squid is a delight to the palate!
Wonton noodles ordered as a meal. One of the Cantonese noodle dishes. Noodle dish served in a light broth. Wontons filled with shrimp and meat. It also contains some chashu Wow, that was a treat! And ending with a cup of jasmine tea It’s Motomachi/Chukagai station on the Minato Mirai line
The underpass also has a Chinatown feel to it. The diner I mentioned earlier is also in the picture, lol Thank you for watching to the end!

What a great video. I lived in Yokohama 22 years ago and I'm very familiar with Sakuraigicho, MM, Chinatown area. I lived just a few stations down at Negishi. Will be coming in September for 3 weeks and off to Seoul and other stops in Korea. Can't believe how much it has changed. 😊
