First stop is Vrsar. Vrsar is a small, dreamy village in Croatia and a popular vacation destination on the coast of Istria during the summer months. Situated between the famous coastal towns of Rovinj and Porec, this holiday resort is a real insider tip! A true gem and the most important attraction of Vrsar is the absolutely picturesque harbor, which is certainly one of the most beautiful in the region. Also, Vrsar Old Town with its winding alleys, the romantic colorful houses and pretty cafés is a must-see. What’s more, the beautiful beaches, which are lined up along the coast, enchant with turquoise blue sea colors and wonderful idyll. Moreover, there are really wonderful things to do nearby, which makes Vrsar a beloved destination in Istria.

Then we headed towards Lim Fjord. Lim Fjord is part of the 35 km long Lim Valley (Draga), that stretches almost to the center of Istria, to the town of Pazin. The Fjord itself is a little bit longer than 10 km, it is 30 meters deep and its widest part is around 600 meters wide. From both sides very steep mountains rise, in some parts even up tp 100 meters. Here you can also see the famous Pirate Cave. The place that is believed to have been the home to Henry Morgan, a pirate who hid himself and his loot from the Englishmen. The Captain Morgan brand of flavored rums got its named after him.

Last stop was Rovinj. Rovinj is romantic, historic, and looks and feels more Italian than Croatian. With twisting city streets, a bustling, photogenic harbor, and some of the best seafood restaurants in Croatia, this is a town that is not to be missed. For the most part, we spent the day wandering the old town, enjoying the view from the cathedral, and sampling a few restaurants. Rovinj is one of those places that is perfect for exploring without an itinerary or to-do list. The small harbor of Rovinj is packed with fishing boats, small ferries, and batana boats (flat-bottomed boats used by the local fishermen). Plus, this is a nice spot to take a photo of the old town. For the best view over Rovinj and the coast, climb the bell tower. First, it’s an uphill walk just to get to the Church of St. Euphemia, which can be very hot in the summer months. Then, it is a climb up 192 creaky steps to the top of the bell tower. But the steps were too old and slippery for my taste. I skipped that easily.
