We booked The Ultimate Coron Island hopping tour through our Airbnb host. Unfortunately, we realized later that this meant we paid a little extra for a cheaper tour option. However, she did supply us with snorkel gear and we had a good time which is all that matters, right?

Our tour started off a little rough, as it was a rainy day and we were picked up from our Airbnb 45 minutes late, and then still had to wait for another 15-20 minutes once we got on the boat. Everything runs behind schedule in the Philippines. We knew this, but we didn’t think it would be that late.

After getting helped on to the boat, we did a quick scan of our fellow tour companions, glanced back at each other and hoped for the best.

Finally, an hour and 15 minutes late, our tour guide jumped onto the boat, gave his speech, and we were off!

We had supposedly 7 places to visit with only 7 hours left of the tour.

Our first stop was at the infamous Kayagan Lake. We were skeptical at first because this is the most touristy of all the stops, but once we jumped into the warm waters of the lake, we were blown away by the beauty of the place. It really wasn’t too crowded either. The lake is composed of 70% fresh water, and 30% salt water. We were surrounded by dramatic limestone cliffs. It was perfect, and definitely worth the wait.

Our next stop was the Twin Lagoon. Unfortunately, our guide only gave us 29 minutes here to snorkel around 2 lagoons. So naturally, we only swam in one. After about 15 minutes, we decided we would swim back to the boat. Or so I thought. After struggling with snorkeling equipment in the past, I was super excited to finally have some good gear that worked well and I felt like a free fish. I made my way back to the boat without ever looking up. To my horror, when I did look up, Scott was nowhere to be found. We were over at the second lagoon, having a similar horrifying experience. Long story short, we both thought the other had drowned, but luckily, we found each other and vowed to communicate much better before diving into the blue waters.

For lunch, we stopped at Demenglit Island and shared a delicious and fresh seafood meal, provided by the tour.

The next stop was probably my favourite. The boat stopped in the middle of nowhere, as the waters turned from a deep blue to a bright aqua. This was the Garden reefs stop. It was amazing, and we dove around until it was time to move on.

The next stop was at an island that no one really got off the boat to explore, yet everyone partook in the boat snacks that were purchased from a local boat vendor. The highlight was the ice candy, creamy ice cream in a plastic bag with pieces of candied mango.

We stopped 2 more times. The first was skeleton wreck (very cool shipwreck that we swam to in the rain), and then to Baracuda lake (we didn’t get off, as it was cold and rainy and we were very tired. Only a handful of the group went in as it an extra stop and an additional cost.)

The sun was setting as we drove back to Coron town and it was the perfect way to cap off a great day. Finally, almost an hour after the tour was supposed to be over, we parked the boat and climbed off. A trike was waiting for our arrival to take us back to the Airbnb.

Overall, we had a really great time on this tour and would highly recommend it if you’re visiting Coron. If we could do it again, we would pay extra to do a private tour.

The journey begins!

Scotty and I quit our jobs, moved our stuff into storage and left Canada to travel all around Southeast Asia until the funds run out. We’ve always talked of doing something like this, but we decided to take the plunge and really go for it.

We are starting our travels in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and staying with our old pal and roommate Sunil. From there, we will be traveling to Bali, Indonesia.

Our goal is to experience as much as we can, get out of our comfort zones, and really live our lives to the fullest.

We plan to share this journey with friends and family and anyone else interested in our journey. The goal is to put out one travel vlog weekly, to share the good, the bad, and everything in between.

Stay tuned and enjoy the ride!!

xoxo
