Mandalay, Myanmar – Just like Yangon, Mandalay, the ancient and Northern capital of Myanmar, is filled with delicious street food that is vastly different from the food of Yangon. In this video, we explore the streets of Mandalay to find the most unique and delicious foods that this amazing city has to offer.
Places Visited:
Man Myodaw – A classic Teahouse in central Mandalay, this huge shop has some of the best pork dumplings in the whole country. Their coconut buns and chicken puffs are absolute must tries as well.
Shwe Yaung Lin – This shop supposedly serves the best Mont Mi in all of Mandalay. What is Mont Mi? Imagine a bunch of super thick, rice noodles mixed in this delicious peanut, fishy, eggy, and creamy carbonara-esque sauce topped with a bunch of little crispy fried noodles and shallots. An absolute must-try in Mandalay.
Tet Nay Wun – If you love steamed fish, this shop is going to be your favorite stop in Mandalay. Be sure to order their steamed lemon fish topped with a layer of cilantro, chilis, garlic, and mixed in with this beautiful lemon-y sour but spicy sauce.
Karaweik Palace – Out of all the biryanis I had in Myanmar, this place serves my absolute favorite! Their chicken is juicier than that of Yangon’s and definitely don’t skip out on their chicken kailan, a Chinese dish served at an INDIAN RESTAURANT!
Sandar May – The BEST dumplings in all of Mandalay. I can’t stress this enough. Their “mini-dumplings” are so cute to look at but trust me, they’re more satisfying inside your mouth!
Thanks so much for watching!
