GDR’s first prefab neighbourhood – Berlin Fennpfuhl | 4K Berlin Walking Tour

Welcome to the Fennpfuhl district of Berlin-Lichtenberg in the former East Berlin. The district is named after the Fennpfuhl, a small lake in a Park in the centre of the district, which we will see later in this video.

In 1972, construction began on the Fennpfuhl area, which became the GDR’s first contiguous large prefabricated housing estate. I can hardly wait until winter is over and it’s green outside again. Then I will explore this fascinating area in more detail.

Please excuse the annoying sounds of my snowboard trousers. It was f**king cold … 🙂
