A 1 Week Trip Across Greece By Car | In Our Case | November 2023 |

Hi welcome back so recently we took a trip around Mainland Greece with two of our friends we did it pretty much all by car this is what we Did so our plan was to be away for a week other than that we really had no plan we started off in zakinthos and we left pretty early in the morning I think we got the halfi ferry and so we got the halfi ferry to Kini which was on the

Mainland and after that we headed north our first stop leaving cini was to head north towards the town of yanana or city not too sure it’s about a 3 3 hour 20 minute drive and we pretty much had all seasons in one day on the way there

Granted it was November but there was a lot of rain which kind of greeted us but that cleared very quickly we stopped off at a service station for a quick Comfort stop and the views already were absolutely spectacular and this was literally from uh a services on the way

There when we got there Yan was beautiful it’s got a gorgeous Lake there really Scenic town and we took a little boat trip up to a little island across the way trip was like a y or something you just basically go to the office that’s right by the lake can’t really

Miss it um and you just get the boat the boat over which takes about 10 minutes this little town was just wasn’t it amazing it was so quaint there’s loads of little like ways to go all around it shops and there’s little restaurants and all that and they clearly know when a

Fairy has just arrived cuz they’re all kind of ready and hello hello but T need to get in but it’s not pushy yeah I was going to say it’s just nice isn’t it it’s very it’s very much welcoming yeah when we got back off the ferry we went

For a walk into the town which just absolutely beautiful there’s like all castle walls around it’s quite medieval is a little bit um but it’s really it’s just so beautiful I can’t even tell you how gorgeous it was we had lunch which was just one I think that was like one

Of the best meals of our trip to be honest God it was like it was amazing we just got like loads of starters and we all just shared then we had a little woke up fur into the town went shopping after 7 months of living here where

There’s not really that many shops it was so good to see Zara or branded shops so you don’t like to Zara or or anywhere we went to Zara which was amazing and then we all headed back in the car so we walk back down towards the lake where we

Parked the car we hit the road again and we were continuing North to Meto and that next stop Meto it’s a little bit nor North it’s a little bit east whichever way it is it’s so much higher we are it’s literally the climate just completely changed yeah it’s crazy cuz

It’s like it’s just so cold it’s like a Mountain Village isn’t it yeah granted we did go of the evening time so you do expect it to be cooler but wow it was a 47 minute Road Trip the roads were just lovely to drive on and we got there at

About 700 p.m. we booked a hotel was it it was like a apartment Guest House type we booked it on Route and which was like 50 or something and it was basically it slept four people which was good cuz there was four of us so it was one

Couple in one room one couple in another room and it was quite small but it was so charming and it was right behind a like a ski sort of style like coffee place it’s like a it was just crazy and the owner was so lovely he had the heat

And on ready for us he knocked on the door and brought in like these hable teas with cherries to flavor it it was incredible and he was like welcome and I think he had biscuits or something I don’t know he was like welcome welcome and brought on we were just blown away

The hospitality was just insane seriously uh but yeah that that next morning we went and all of a sudden realized once we’ had our coffees and went for a little walk with our friends and all of a sudden realized just where we were and I obviously took the Drone

Up and got it all in context and this like Emma said it’s it’s like a mountain town think like like a ski resort in the Swift swift Alps or something like it was just but with no ski slopes no ski slopes and it’s just and no banging DJs

Have you seeing that like we need to go skiing because it’s like I Bea like honestly honestly the club Classics they play on the skis the a ski I’m totally there going for the SK oh yeah I’m not going to ski um so yeah it was like

Honestly it was another level it was so beautiful and then we went and found a bakery that we all walked into we walked in the door oh my God we were so embarrassing what did we do ads our mate he he went walked into the bar he’s the

Only one who speaks Greek cuz he’s Greek and he walked in and we’re kind of falling in behind him and all four of us walking in a single file they just start firing at him he’s like oh and we all kind of took a sh back turns out it’s

Actually more like a kiosk where we’re walking in was actually the whole kitchen yeah like we getting our ready to start cooking uh but anyway we had um loads of pastries didn’t we got loads of pastries it’s just beautiful like and then we took them back and had them at

Our little accommodation set outside of probably another coffee and then we packed up the car and then we traveled to metora pretty early on in this hour and 10 hour and 15 minute drive we had to stop because the views like seriously if we could have stopped

At every single point that we wanted to stop we would still be there it’s now January and we were there in November we just are just you’ll be seeing it right now and just this whole area of Greece is just absolutely breathtaking every single Corner every single turn is just

Another amazing view so I’m just going to cut in and just say at this point the tunes were banging the country music are gone thank God and we had rock music we were playing ACDC Metallica Black Album just incredible like so we were really like road tripping at this we went a

Little bit Poppy and a bit of full Out Boy a bit of Panic at the Disco and all that you weren’t loving that but as I said the views all the way along that drive were already gorgeous this area is just stunning this area of of Mainland

Greece is just an assault on the senses and then that assault just intensifies when you get to metora now met Tora is a recognized UNESCO world heritage site and for good reason it’s SM BL it’s basically monasteries built into rocks there’s one Monastery there we didn’t

Really get any of the names and we were just but we will do we will do but there’s one Monastery there that is only accessible by one main way and that is stairs going up from ground level as in all the way down the only way else to

Get there is by cable car and it’s the rickest least safe cable car I could see now I’ve spoken to someone since and apparently they will bring Bishops or high ranking monks I’m sorry I don’t know the rank structure acrossing them rather than making them walk uh and

Climb but the only other thing that uses that cable car is maintenance and I got the whole sequence of this and this was an older fellow he’s clearly rebuilding some wall or something at the monastery and first off he’s there loading up this cable car with a few rocks you can’t

Take too many rocks cuz it’s obviously not going to support the weight and then he just climbs in on top of them stands on top of them and then sets the cable car off and traverses this absolute expanse bsing his way over there to drop off the rocks and continue his

Maintenance work we just couldn’t get over it could we we were just like mind blown we from the UK in the land of health and safety oh yeah it was just something else after that we got in the car and we headed towards our next stop which was castoria full name Aus ctera

And I mean I think you may be sensing a theme here so the reason we were stopping here is because the friends that we were traveling with had a friend who lives here and he wanted to show us around and oh my we’re going to go back

We have to we only stayed one night there we booked the hotel on root I think oh the hotel funny story about that but yeah so we basically we went and we got there that evening time so we nipped out had a glass of wine we went

Back to the hotel and then the next morning we woke up it was raining a bit but we met with um our friends friends who showed us round and it was just glorious so we went to the beautiful Lake which was just stunning like oh my

God then we went to um Dragon’s Cave and oh actually before that we went to um like a prehistoric kind of like a settlement which was just crazy insane yeah it’s so it’s so well laid out as well and they’ve done so much our friends’s friend who lives there used to work

There as well and so he kind of was our guide there and they’ve done it’s really quite a find uh in in in Greece and it’s from prehistoric times so they’ve they’ve kind of re built and a it’s just St it’s insane honestly and then after

That we went to Dragon’s Cave didn’t we and then we did we go went to this beautiful little church where all the cats were just in on the step and everyone like just stepped over them like raining yeah and the cats were all huddled together like as cats do you

Know so cute and they um they were all on basically where you step like the threshold to get into the church and they just stayed there and everyone was stepping over them but inside this church was um where the is it the Turkish people had scratched all

The eyes off um the off the paintings of the Saints yeah so we saw that and then we went to this incredible restaurant for food and oh my God it was like a meat was it like like a meat restaurant was it and we went in and we thought God

This is going to be pricey cuz we were right up like drove all the way up I mean views for days location location location stunning views for days were like just absolutely gorgeous sat down and we were like oh my God this is going to be pricey cuz like we’ve just eaten

In like you know like Tas and like very chilled out the pastry here yeah this had like proper tablecloth so you know we were going up in the world so we were just a bit like oh got the thing the prices it was like so cheap oh like yeah

You had a burger I had a tendin of pork which was honestly melting your mouth amazing with like these mashed potatoes and like a like a whiskey thing it was just incredible I think it was like €1 I’m not even joking it was ridiculous it was

So cheap so we ate there and then after that we where did we go after that went for a little walk around castoria as in like loads of beautiful little um tiny little streets and saw all the architecture and all like the the houses and stuff just absolutely

Amazing apparently the town has been built up on the fur trade and uh our friend’s friend who was again our tour guide for the day was was saying how a lot of the buildings uh were the homes of the Traders and how they’re really suffering now as you can imagine as uh

As the conscience steps in globally and yeah he seeing seeing how there’s a real there’s a real downturn in their in their income so yeah it was it was a real insight into into local culture so the hotel we stayed at was about 10 minutes drive away from the center and

Basically I don’t know how we booked it I think our friends booked it we were the only ones in the hotel literally she locked us in the hotel literally like she gave us the keys to the whole hotel so we got in no one else there at the

Run of the whole hotel have you ever been in a hotel at night when only the lights are on for people who were there and there’s only one room scar was a bit like so we left caseria and we went to posar this was about 2hour Drive I don’t know where we

Actually stayed I don’t know if it was POS I don’t think it was but anyway the next so we got there late at night R to the supermarket got a couple of snacks for the room had a really good sleep woke up the next day and we were heading

To pose our bath so it’s about a 45 minute car Journey away from where we were staying and POS our bath in basically thermal Springs and it was just it was Chalker but it was insane the big pool was closed but there were Lo little Natural Springs everywhere

Else we got in and it was just it was crazy it was absolutely choc maybe Sunday is not a good day to go um to get a coffee was just hell on it CU everyone’s coffee needs are more important than everyone else’s and as you know in Greece there’s no such thing

As cues um so that was fun but we had a great time it was really weird in in like water like outside and everyone was sat in the hot water yes so the air temperature although we were in the sun uh as we were predominantly on this trip

It was was cold and yet the thermal baths were really warm and looking actually where it’s situated it’s right within Cliffs as well yeah and it’s right by the border as well it really is yeah but it such such a a great thing to do and if you ever towards that way or

Planning to go that way I would definitely say it’s definitely worth a stoping and a little swiming poser after that we went back to our room we had a shower and then we checked out and we drove to adessa that wasn’t that far away it was about an hour away or

Something and and we went there and we saw waterfalls which were incredible like huge they yeah now this was as em said this was in the same day this was on Sunday and we saw the beautiful waterfalls down the side and we had a little walk around there but in all

Honesty we’re all getting really quite hungry we were starving so we headed to to W Vera which was really busy being Sunday it’s a really really big family day here in Greece so we kind of walk further down the road to another one oh that’s too busy so we kind of it after

About 40 minutes walking Here There and Everywhere we’re like right let’s just go here and we took a table that still had stuff on it uh from the previous occupants but we sat down like right this is where we’re going to eat and then everything changed we ended up

Adopting a kitten and we’re filming this at the end of January he’s still with us but he goes to the UK tomorrow long story short we all love cats we’ve all got cats and we were sat eating and because he had this cat screaming and

Screaming in pain and I was just I was crime eyes I was we made a decision as a group to check out the cat and it clung to us and it basically being hit by a car and his pelvis was shattered or weour while we grabbed a tomato box put

Him in it and drove him to the nearest yeah so we found vets we took him to the vets x-rays later blah blah blah all this later we made a decision to forgo our next stop which was going to be kind of like halfway down down and just drive

All the way through the night to right down south of Greece to a place called AUST where we were going to stop anyway we were just like right let’s do it so we did that and um basically we our trip kind of changed because of the cat but

He’s beautiful he’s thriving he’s fully recovered he’s great and we have been taking care of him since November basically he’s lived in our for a little bit and then he’s been with our friends and she’s like being his adoptive Mommy and yeah all is good so we have a home

For him that has been sorted in the UK which is actually a friend of our friends who we’re on holiday with and who has been looking after him as well and she’s going to take him so he’s leaving tomorrow um by official career so yeah so we were in the house of our

Friends looking after this cat luckily he lives by the most beautiful town of nafo so we went there and that Place blew my mind considering we’ve being Northern right at the top of gree right before this adessa is like right up there ever my God it was like Summer’s

Day in August beautiful Naf playo is stunning like AB isn’t it insane oh just we went for a gorgeous walk we had ice creams we had a glass of PCO outside we went shopping the little windy streets all the flowers beautiful little knickknack shops and it was just

Beautiful like we definitely going to go back there you said a lot Italy or south south of France imagine the mix of Italy and south of France mashed in together that was that place but so spent quite a lot of time in Aros as well didn’t we

And Aros is beautiful it’s got a really nice Castle um it’s a lovely little town we went for coffees there and stuff got the Drone up it’s just beautiful yeah so after our time there we headed back to zakinthos on the ferry with our new addition anyway guys I hope you enjoyed

A little about us We are Emma and Adam and are originally from Liverpool, UK. We have emigrated to Zakynthos, Greece where we are based full time with our 2 cats!
