The #church was built in the #Baroque style on the instructions of the Saxon Elector and King of Poland Augustus the Strong in the 18th century. However, during the Second World War it was completely destroyed during the bombing of Dresden by Anglo-American aircraft on February 13, 1945.
Restoration of the cathedral according to historical drawings began only after the reunification of #Germany in 1993. The cross crowning the church was made in England by the son of a pilot who took part in the bombing of Dresden. It has the unofficial name Versöhnungskreuz – “cross of reconciliation.”
