Med BOBIL i Rhindalen og Moseldalen. Kan det bli vakrere enn dette?
Hello guys and welcome back to ReiseTV1, and welcome to the Rhine Valley. The Rhine is Western Europe’s largest river and is 1,233 kilometers long. It starts in Switzerland and flows into the North Sea in the Netherlands. We will drive north through the Rhine valley from Rüdesheim to Koblenz.
This is one of the most beautiful stretches along the Rhine and is on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. The stretch is 65 kilometers long, and is distinguished, among other things, by the fact that there is not a single bridge over the river here.
In Rüdesheim there were a number of roadblocks which meant that we had to make our own road choices regardless of what the GPS said. It meant that we got into this trouble. No, no, no, no, no! You can’t get through here!
We made it through Rüdesheim unscathed and now we drive up the hills above the town, because we are going to take a look at the monumental building here. This is the Niederwald Monument. It was set up by Kaiser Wilhelm I to celebrate the victory in the French-German War which lasted from 1870-71.
At the top of the statue we see Germany’s pride Germania holding the German imperial crown aloft. There is a fantastic view of the Rhine from here. On the other side of the river we see the town of Bingen. This must be the ideal place to take your girlfriend on a “date”, right?
We have decided to drive on the west side of the Rhine on our way north to Koblenz. And that means we have to cross the river. There are no bridges to drive over nearby, so we have to take the ferry across. We have arrived at a small town called Bacharach.
And there are a lot of people here. We are standing on a motorhome pitch, and it is almost full here now. It’s only 3 in the afternoon. And we are talking about the end of September, and we are talking about 25 degrees. It is a wonderful temperature here in the Rhine Valley.
The Rhine is trafficked by many boats. As we sit here now and have a view of the Rhine, we see both tourist boats and cargo ships running both up and down And it must be said, there is a significant difference in speed if you drive up the Rhine versus if you drive down.
The medieval village of Bacharach dates from the early 13th century. If you take a trip here, you are guaranteed your daily dose of half-timbered houses, city walls and cobblestones. The village has approximately 1,800 inhabitants and the main industry here is tourism and wine. Uhhhh… Exactly! Our journey continues north in the Rhine Valley.
Besides the many picturesque villages, there are over 40 castles and fortresses along this stretch of the Rhine. And then it’s a bit fascinating to watch all the boat traffic that passes. In Koblenz, the Moselle and the Rhine meet at “Das Deutche Eck”, i.e. the German corner.
Here we find the statue of an old acquaintance, namely Kaiser Wilhelm the First. The square and the statue were established in the year 1897, which was actually after the emperor’s death. We decided to take the cable car up to Ehrenbreitstein, which is the largest preserved fortress in Germany.
From here there is supposed to be a magnificent view of the city. And here we see that Knaus Campingpark is very centrally located, on the other side of the Mosel in relation to “Das Deutche Eck”. In the high season, there is a passenger ferry from the campsite to the German corner.
The Mosel Valley is located near the border between Germany, France and Luxemburg. The valley runs from Koblenz to the city of Trier. High-quality white wine has been produced here since the 19th century, but wine production has been going on here ever since Roman times.
The steep valley sides mean that a lot of sunlight reaches the grapes, which gives them extra good growing conditions, and consequently it is an ideal area to produce wine. Train. Vines. Mosel River. I have read that there will be 102 vineyards up the Mosel valley. It is on a stretch of 150 kilometers.
So they are very close. The vines are on the north side here. It’s about sun and soil. There is definitely my calcareous shale rock here too. The vines like it very much, because then they grow far beyond to get enough nutrition. It is the Moselvin that comes from here.
Mosel wine is not only produced here, it is also done in France and Luxembourg. There the train comes and runs past us. There are several villages worth visiting in the Mosel Valley. One of these is Bernkastel-Kues, Bernkastel is on one side of the river, while Kues is on the other.
This is a so-called double city, because when a bridge was built over the river here, these two cities were merged into one. We chose to visit Bernkastel, and there we found new variants of these houses again.
We travel further up the Mosel valley, and the plan today is to find a vineyard where we can spend the night. The Riesling grape accounts for over 60% of the wine production in the Mosel valley. In the area here, over 1 million bottles of wine are produced per year.
At the Feiten vineyard, there is room for 40 motorhomes with all facilities. Here they offer wine tasting, food and drink. Then we are done with the Mosel Valley, so now we go on to Luxembourg.
Then we are nearing the end of our trip to Germany. However, we had to visit the port city of Wismar, which is often referred to as a hidden gem with the many elaborate facade gables. This Hanseatic city is also on UNESCO’s World Heritage List.
Germany has surprised us very positively, so we are going back. Hang in there and you’ll see what happens.
Vi kjører i noen av Tysklands vakreste landskaper og opplever fantastiske landsbyer fra middelalderen og vingårder som serverer både mat og drikke. Har du ikke vært i Tyskland før, så er dette en tur som vi kan anbefale.
