We had such a great time in Nuwara Eliya, we toured Damro tea and stayed at the Golden Ridge Hotel. Nuwara Eliya is a picturesque town located in the central highlands of Sri Lanka. Often referred to as the “Little England” of the country, it is renowned for its cool climate, lush greenery, and scenic landscapes. Situated at an elevation of around 1,868 meters (6,128 feet) above sea level, Nuwara Eliya offers a refreshing escape from the tropical heat of the lowlands. The town is surrounded by rolling hills, tea plantations, and waterfalls, creating a serene and tranquil atmosphere. Visitors can explore well-maintained colonial architecture, enjoy leisurely walks around Lake Gregory, and experience the region’s renowned tea culture with visits to tea estates and factories.
