Day 1 starts in the heart of Paris, where we’ll awaken our taste buds with a classic French breakfast. Imagine sitting in a cozy Parisian cafe, sipping on a café au lait and biting into a flaky, buttery croissant. Croissants aren’t just breakfast; they’re a symbol of French artistry.
For a classic french breakfast, we recommend the famous Café de Flore, or La Parisienne. Later, for lunch, we’ll stroll over to a quaint bistro, like Le Saint Régis, for a Quiche Lorraine, savoring the perfect blend of eggs, cheese, and ham. Dinner is an adventure to a chic restaurant.
At Restaurant Josephine Chez Dumonet, we’ll experience a simple classic; a steak tartare. If you’re feeling extra adventurous, try the Pigeon Mille-Feuille; a savory take on a classic french pastry with the rich, distinctive taste of pigeon, resulting in a dish that is both visually appealing and deliciously flavorful.
A perfect end to our first day in France. Day 2, we’re off to Rennes, in Brittany, where the ocean meets French cuisine. Breakfast is a delightful galette, a savory buckwheat crepe, typically filled with eggs, cheese, and ham, offering a crispy edge that is hard to resist.
There are many varieties to try out at Crêperie Saint-Georges! For lunch, we’ll experience the ultimate comfort food, Moules Marinières at L’Abri du Marché. These mussels cooked in white wine and garlic are a testament to the simplicity and elegance of French seafood.
Dinner is a sensational Brittany lobster, known for its sweet, tender meat, making it an unforgettable meal at Le Galopin. Day 3, and we find ourselves in Bordeaux, indulging in the region’s rich culinary and wine heritage. Starting the day at La Toque Cuivrée with a canelé, we’ll enjoy the crispy caramelized
Crust and soft, tender custard center. For lunch, we can visit a local vineyard for a unique experience followed by a steak with Bordeaux wine reduction at La Tupina. The rich flavors of the wine perfectly complementing the succulent steak. For dinner, we can check out Le Bistro du Sommelier.
The confit de canard (duck confit) served over creamy potatoes will showcase the depth of flavors that Bordeaux cuisine has to offer. Day 4 takes us to Lyon, the gastronomic capital of France. Here, breakfast is a simple yet delicious Lyonnaise pastry, like a praline tarte from
Any of their many boulangeries like Le Pain & La Rose or Boulangerie du Palais. For lunch, we’re trying the pride of Lyon, Coq au Vin at Les Belles Volailles. This wine-braised chicken, slow-cooked to perfection, marries the robust flavors of red wine with tender chicken and vegetables.
Dinner in Lyon is all about simplicity and flavor with a fresh Baguette and an assortment of French cheeses. Yes, a meal in itself, each cheese telling its own unique story. We’ll take a stroll in Les Halles de Lyon and build our own charcuterie and cheese spread.
With a bottle of wine, we can enjoy a picnic at Parc de la Tête d’Or or in the Rosary Garden. On Day 5, we venture over to Strasbourg in the Alsace region, where French and German cuisines intertwine. Breakfast in Strasbourg means we are going to Chez Christian for Kouglof, a traditional,
Dense cake filled with raisins and flavored with rum. For lunch, we’ll indulge in Choucroute Garnie, a hearty dish featuring sauerkraut and various meats. We’ll find a true representation of Alsace’s culinary fusion at Chez Yvonne. Dinner brings us to La Fignette for a Tarte flambée, a thin crust topped with cream,
Onions, and bacon, bursting with flavor in every bite. Day 6 leads us to Nice for a taste of the Mediterranean. Breakfast is a light start with a Pain Bagnat, a sandwich that encapsulates the freshness of the sea. We recommend the ones at PAN or at Lou Balico.
Lunch at Lou Pilha Leva sees us diving into a Salade Niçoise, a dish that combines the best of the fresh produce and seafood Nice has to offer. For dinner, a Ratatouille. This vegetable stew is not just healthy but bursting with the flavors of Provence, reminding us of the region’s sunny disposition.
Le Comptoir du Marché is known for its focus on fresh, local ingredients, and they often feature traditional Provençal dishes on their menu, including Ratatouille. Day 7, our culinary journey ends in Marseille with a feast for the senses. Starting with a “Gibassier” at Le Four des Navettes; While not exclusive to Marseille,
Gibassier is a type of sweet bread or pastry that is enjoyed in the Provence region, including Marseille. It’s made with olive oil, orange blossom water, and anise seeds, resulting in a deliciously fragrant and slightly sweet treat. Lunch is the main event: Bouillabaisse from Le Miramar.
This world-renowned fish stew, rich in flavor and history, is the perfect dish to reflect on our week-long journey. For our final dinner, we’ll celebrate with a Pastis, an anise-flavored liquor that’s as much a part of Marseille as the sea itself, alongside a spread of Mediterranean delights at Le Petit Nice Passedat.
